  1. That is a beauty...
  2. I have heard white wine vinegar in your diet regularly puts them off.. Could be BS though.
  3. Anyone tried the new harkie harness, leg pads look big and comfy..
  4. First time on Tachyon, not the first time splicing. It felt like it was my first time though, was a difficult set of instructions to follow, what with the print being about 2mm high..
  5. Tesco's very own bakewell slices Treat to make up for the blisters...
  6. My first attempt at tachyon.. What a bu*ger:001_tongue: Im sure the new england instructions are designed to make it difficult A 3,4,3,4,3,4 taper on the cover tail seems to be a bit too blunt a taper to make it bury easily enough. Maybe I'm just a wimp..
  7. Would it still need a CE ?? After all it does say not to be used as primary life support.. I would love to get one, but I think I will stick to my wooden one. Until Drew posts a nice video of the shiny beast in action ahaha, then I might start to get tempted
  8. Not sure if anybody will have seen this yet as the video is unlisted for some reason.. But Kevin Bingham has got the wrench into production now:thumbup: Very tempting:laugh1: says the gear addict. [ame=http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PyRC4-eO9xs]YouTube - Singing Tree Rope Wrench ZK1[/ame]
  9. Any news on the unicender yet? Maybe not as gentle as you had hoped for...
  10. I suppose it all depends on personal taste and what is 'reasonably practical' to you. I have enough stuff dangling about off the harness as it is. So an extra thing to get tangled is probably not reasonably practical for me. The magnet is doing a good job so far and I have never dropped it when its been in my hand. Only out of the sheath and the magnet deals with that. Certainly an interesting idea though and could be pretty good with some time to get used to it I would think.
  11. Makes a lot of sense, never thought of that. I guess it is stressing the fungi just like removing branches stresses trees if they are already struggling. One to remember, Thanks.

    Lichens

Slimey green and covered in black spots.. Sounds like someone I know:001_tt2:
  13. PM'd you Al.
  14. If you did get into a situation where it failed, the croll should back it up cregardless of what phase of the system you are using at the time. Even if it didnt and your weight fell on the ArmorPrus, looks like it will hold the ascender straight anyway. :thumbup1:I don't know for sure cos I have never tried to put a back up on the ascenders, but I can't see it doing any harm, seems like the only time you will ever need it would be a catastrophic emergency, in which case I wouldnt be too worried about loading my ascender funny, as long as I was still alive
  15. Looks like a good setup. The way you will get max efficiency out of it is to just keep tweaking lengths of the tethers. When you are standing in the footloop with your leg straight, the bottom of the hand ascender should just clear the top of the croll to get maxiumum progress capture. The lower you can get the croll the better in my experience. Good luck with it. Just tinkering now:thumbup:

I see, when I read it in that context I see what you are getting at. Thanks:biggrin:

    Lichens

Sorry Fungus, I think you I could have written that better. I mean where and why in relation to current distribution of communities as a result of different factors influencing their locations and abndances... In that pollution, light availability, bark pH etc etc will influence them but it is hard to determine which factors have the most influence. If I email you my dissertation, you may understand where I am coming from/my questions and interest better. Cool insight into the evolution of lichens, thanks.
  18. Poor first attempt at a time lapse walk with my diddy lil camera: [ame=http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3Akf9S4TGF8]YouTube - Virginia Water Walk[/ame]

    Lichens

I have also seen in certain lichen papers, the suggestion that the species composition on the trunk may be more representative of past pollution conditions and twig lichen communities on the same tree may be more representative of recent pollution conditions because the thalli are smaller thus started to grow later than some of (in some cases) the much larger thalli of lichens on the trunk. Interesting subject, studied it for my dissertation. They are so sensitive to so many variables and external influences. It makes it very difficult to explain why which lichens are where they are and why.
  20. Nice!! I'm still on my wood one! Jealous.
  21. Spontaneous day, classically forgot the camera. Anyway I will stop derailing your thread now! Ropeguide is awesome! I thought a cambium saver was good. This Pinto is insane! Not tried a cocoon but I'm sure old snake was using his cocoon with a hitch cord on his homemade ropeguides!
  22. Don't see why not:001_huh: Seems like it should work fine Hama. Did a bit of exploring at Virgina Water the other day. Some crackers there:thumbup:
  23. I had thought about a newtribe but I wasn't sure if there might be some sort of CE issue with them? I suppose it is fine for recreational climbing. The other problem is trying one on.. Might see if she can try one of Moss' new tribes if we get over to the states soon.
  24. Honey brothers emailed me this morning saying the spacer has just come in. £2.49! Winner.
  25. Ive got a panic grip on my wallet now Drew, after you convincing the missus that she needs a treemotion! Bloody wind up merchant!
