  1. looks like a nice place to climb! are newbies invited?
  2. Bungee cord loop.. two small tool crabs. Clip one to the top of the croll. one half of the loop either side of your neck and clip the other crab to a loop on the back of your harness?? Works for me.place around with the length of the loop so its still fairly tight when you sit and not too tight on the stand part of the movement. hope this helps..
  3. Virginia Water and Windsor Great Park! Both within a train ride from London. There are some great trees. Plenty of nice Beeches and some other rarer trees at Virginia water. Can't say much about Great park as I have not been. But I am told there are plenty of good oaks... Also its quite a large place so more scope for getting a bit further from the main paths..
  4. I have had members of the public see me when out in the local woods. The most common reactions are.. "That looks fun" "is it safe, if so ok" Never had any negative comments! Deffo get down to Burrator. Amazing trees covered in mosses lichens small ferns etc. good day out!
  5. The law of trespass means you have to be on someone elses land AND do damage in some shape of form... In my experience, climb first and ask questions later..because most people seem to say no. Due to liability etc. Also I climb regularly all over public woods etc and I am very rarely seen up in the trees. Also if you are in Devon check out burrator reservoir. Not sure how far it is from you but there are some amazing Beech trees the non lake side of the dam!
  6. Plenty of dark green!
  7. Yes there are some beasts on the main campus! The Sequoia was previously my tallest tree ever until I made the trip down to the one in the New Forest. Measured it roughly with my throwline at about 50m Was very fun. Nearly needed the spare pants.
  8. Just looked at it on Googlemaps.. It is a stately home open to the public or something?
  9. Im a bit cheeky and love getting up prominent trees. Just not at busy times.. I currently do a lot of climbing in the many woods and commons heading north out of Reading. Did one very stealth climb of a huge giant sequoia on my university campus.. dont think they would be too happy if they knew about it! This Engelfield estate sounds good.. I will have to look into it. Cheers Richy
  10. Hi Steve,

You seem to be big boss man on here.. Im Ben 21 year old newbie.

Do you know of any Uk based forums like this for recreational tree climbers?

  11. Im a bit new and may be being a div! I'm sure there is a thread about this somewhere but i cant seem to find it.. ...So I know you guys are all mainly professionals and dont fancy climbing on the weekend when you have been at it all week. But.. I am really interested in finding some other people to climb with besides mates who i have to guide and help.. Is there anyone in the west london/bucks/berkshire/surrey area who rec climbs? Know any monster trees in the area?? Cheers
  12. Regularly rec climb alone.. never had even a hint of a problem. Would be fun to find some other local rec climbers to get down the woods with though!
