  1. Cheers Matt, I do enjoy a good discussion. Firstly I am not a geologist, I am a Geographer and therefore do not study fossils in quite as much depth as I would if I were a Geologist. As for your quote, I do not doubt that it is correct. The odds of a missing link between one extinct species and one current being preserved in fossil form is unlikely. But that does not mean to say it did not exist. Conditions for fossilisation are very specific and therefore not every creature that has existed on this earth has been preserved in fossil form. However, If you take the case of man/ape, I think you can clearly see that we are related. You only have to look at the extent to which our DNA are almost identical. Also the skeletal structure, self awareness and social skills. I think the main thing is that you have to consider all the angles and then make your decision as an individual. I know where I stand. But why am I trying to make a case for evolution. Surely it is up to the creationists to tell us why 'God' is real and what your interpretation of 'God' is. That atomic scientist you were talking about may see 'God' as electrons and neutrons etc. But you say God is to big to capture and prove in a scientific experiment. It's an interesting subject that is for sure.
  2. matt, I have also studied a lot of these matters. I have A levels in Biology and Geography and I am studying Geography for my degree. I have however come to the conclusion that the evidence suggests an evolutionary process is occuring. I have not said that 'God' does not exist but merely that evolution does. It also depends on what you define 'God' to be. I look at the trees and animal and life in general and see a 'pattern' and I appreciate these things. I just choose not to believe that some supreme super human thing created it all. I would also agree with Andy Collins, In so much as I have heard about creation too and have made a decision not to believe it. I AM HOWEVER HAPPY FOR ANYONE TO BELIEVE WHAT THEY LIKE. The thread is richard dawkins- discuss and that is what i am doing.
  3. I would side with Dawkins over any religious fanatic anyday! He is a legend. What does a scientist studying atomic energy have to do with evolutionary biology. (Edit: And how much has he been paid by the templeton foundation to say that?) As far as I'm concerned evolution is fact but people are well within their rights to think what like. Should be an interesting debate/arguement haha
  4. I would say its completely fair. Everything still costs the same for everyone just slightly less. You can still choose what to spend your money on and everyone is taxed proportionally to their wealth. Its exactly the same principle as Dean saying put all the tax on fuel. It proportionally represents usage or in this case earnings. Perhaps I shouldnt get involved with politics it always causes far too much trouble. And lets face it.. its not going to change anyway.
  5. TreeBuzz Board: Retrievable re-direct i dont know if anyone is familiar with this but in theory you could use this idea and use a throwline to release it remotely. bit of a hassle messing about with a throwline though..
  6. What should have happened is that they were all taxed once with a huge bill according to their income and then there was no other taxes on anything because the one great big income tax contained all the little taxes from before such as tax on fuel, beer and fags was in one bill dependant on income. That way it was fair on everyone.. but the rich people with the power didnt like that...
  7. Sounds like a plan. Split tail is cool cos you can adjust the length of the blakes hitch for you son as a prusik that long might be too long for his reach? Have fun, Im sure he will love it. I first had a go when I was about 10/11 made me want to do it all the time
  8. Same for most of them...
  9. Ive just watched The Cove... The Cove Movie: Welcome Some of the other threads have actually been quite funny, but this is a bit too extreme IMO. Just want to bring it to peoples attention. I for one have signed their petition to get dolphin slaughter stopped in Japan. If you get a chance watch the film, if not check the youtube video. Ben
  10. It's amazing what can be done with remote sensing and image processing!
  11. I have used 8ft and 12ft Niwaki tripod ladders and they are very good. Very stable, light and easy to move around. Also great for hedges as you can remove the chain and feed the back leg through into the centre of the hedge and get the ladder flat to the hedge, without going through it:blushing: Hope that helps
  12. Even though they say it cannot be spliced it would be really interesting to see how much force is needed to break that splice. And whether or not it's still stronger than a bowline.
  13. haha. well when youve tested it i will have to get you to make me one of those up too! Looks like its pretty good. Those pulleys rnt cheap tho

  15. Surely once the weight is put on it the wire will bend and not spring back? I think I remember DrewB making rope guides like this and if i remember correctly he put some sort of rubbery springy material in the big spliced eye so that once the climbers weight is removed the eye reverts back to a wide loop. Im sure the thread is on here somewhere... I will have a look.

    TreeBoat

All these expensive hammocks look great. Really stable that tree boat. But... Can you do this in one? I got this in Brazil, It isnt water or mozzy proof but thankfully it is idiot proof!
  17. I have some xtc12 and found it impossible to get the final bury too. Have been told a locking brummel splice will work but I have not tried yet. Let me know how you get on. Would be interested to hear of any solutions you may find. Ben
  18. I have a friend who has one and he cant rate it highly enough. I would like to try one but I havnt seen him since he got it.
  19. Just got my stuff day after ordering. Rapid service and even some refreshers chucked in Your guys must know im a big kid! Thanks Justin, top drawer.
  20. are you selling the AP spliced hitch cords Old Snake? or saving them up for yourself?
  21. People love free stuff and/or a bargain. Have got stuff off most of the major companies and you seem to be very good on price, customer services and delivery. Top company, I will be getting everything from you now
  22. What a well organised site. Very impressed so I thought I better make use of it. I especially like that when you add something to basket you can continue shopping or go the checkout. What is also cool is that you can see the tax on stuff itemised on the right hand side etc. Cheers
  23. Where do i get one !?!?
  24. This looks far too safe! Where are the flip flops and string vests?!?!
  25. Either 8 or 10mm seem to work fine for me:confused1: I just vary the amount of wraps/braids.
