  1. Used the wrench today to remove major deadwood from a pinus radiata. Choked my top anchor with a bowline on a bight straight onto the rope. Was a bitch to pull out afterwards, pretty much had to footlock on it to get it down. Will be trying the locked off ring idea drew posted a while back next time, should be a bit less friction. All in all it worked really nicely. Didnt even have to redirect as most of the deadwood was on the trunk. Used a rope rocket to ascend. Love it.
  2. 83g must be per metre so its around the same weight as tachyon. Cougar blue is the mutts nutts to climb on, when I wear out my blaze short line I will be replacing it with cougar blue. Best rope ive ever climbed on. As for friction cord all the AP work well for me, Bailout is good too. Guess it depends on the length of cord etc too but it gets the double thumbs up from me
  3. Yea Drew is on it.. Its just camo blaze basically. I did both ends of the strop but the second one was a bitch to bury cos i milked a bit too much cover off the core before starting the other end.. Blisters through the gloves
  4. The oval is most useful for the bottom biner so you can invert it to make it easier to connect/disconnect from the system. But really you can get away with anything.
  5. Sorry forgot to add, the instructions for the replacement rubbers suggest warm soapy water for what its worth.. Maybe because of the issues with aerosol that Paul has mentioned.
  6. If I remember rightly, RADS stands for Rubbish Ascent/Descent System.. The standing up motion is 1:1 but pulling the slack through to capture progress is 3:1 which to me defeats the purpose of SRT.
  7. Thats a tasty looking rg craig The bandit is a dan dass special, There some serious amount of full diameter bury there bro
  8. Bandit:001_smile:
  9. At the company I work for in Melbourne there is just a greater range of work than I was getting back home. As Ewan said, plenty of normal and small jobs like the UK but the big stuff is just a lot bigger. Obviously working for a council/company makes quite a difference too. There are certainly more opportunities to push yourself here.
  10. Warm soapy water.. Slides on easy as. Ive just replaced our one at work. Slides on easy and then leave it over night to dry out.
  11. I think its called a machard tresse when you tie a vt with a prussic loop. Is that cord heat resistant? I know how fast you bomb it out of trees Dan:001_tt2:
  12. Would be really interested to see that Ewan..
  13. Sounds great Jake. Good luck with it mate!!
  14. Double thumbs up mate:biggrin:
  15. I would be well up for some splicing at arborcamp. For the likes of Drew and Onelab probably about 10 minutes haha. Im not so quick Tree scene is great over here!
  16. Maybe have a go at the new ap poly.. Its a class 1 double braid splice. Samson instructions are good and you can find out all the fid lengths from a chart on the web.. cant remember where i found it now
  17. Get some cheapo double braid sailing rope and have a go at a class 1 double braid splice mate. I hate 16 strand!!
  18. to replace the alloy ring cambium saver:blushing:
  19. Ive got higher standards when its for someone else I guess. Was a real PITA though!
  20. Medium eye splice on donaghys cougar blue for a friends lanyard. Spec was " i dont want the carabiner to touch the sides":confused1:
  21. Ive got a 15ish metre rope a 30ish metre rope (cut from a 45m) and a 50m line.
  22. Ewan found me the rope otherwise i would probably be using the ap shown in the picture still which is not good rope for the job apparently You don't need rings that open up. Just undo the webbing and thread the rings or rigging plates on. I used rigging plates cos they are what I had lying about. They are actually from the spare bridge from an ergovation. All the parts I've used are from other harnesses so they should be pretty fit for purpose. happy tinkering.
  23. Comedy gold! 10/10
  24. Cheers Ewan. Hope those mountain ash went well mate.
  25. I used two rigging plates instead of bridge rings as the triangle hole lines up the leg loop and top webbing nicely. I did it about a month ago and it works really well. I used globe 3000 for the bridge rope. Same as a treemotion so it should be fit for purpose. I wouldn't know if it would pass loler though cos I'm working in australia. Can't upload on this device but onelab has a photo of how I've done it somewhere. Maybe drop him a pm.
