  1. Ive never had any trouble getting 8mm beeline to grip on any of my ropes. Ocean polyester on the other hand is a PITA with some ropes. 8mm Armor pruss is good on all of the ropes ive used it on too. 10mm is more fussy for me. Length of the cord makes a huge difference too. Mine seem to be between 70 and 80cm usually.
  2. Im in agreement with Wouter. Pretty much covered all bases. Except I have never put a 3:1 on my SRT setup coming in from a branch with the wrench or the uni. With regards to climbing system tweaks for DbRT, have you guys tried the Double line rope walker setup? Pretty effortless ascending.
  3. Removal of a coral tree (spiky) - first crane job Measuring trunk volume of a mountain ash Visiting a strangler fig in Queensland Not a bad year:biggrin:
  4. I put mine up through a caritool. Dont like having a biner on my leg loop. The caritools get clipped on branches enough as it is, cant handle anymore snags!!
  5. Is that Zander the dude in his 50s, old school? If we are on about the same guy, I know a few guys that used to work with him. Apparently he is bloody rapid still!
  6. Nice work man! That looks smart. Good thing you have a bollard for snatching logs too!
  7. Merry xmas from down under in the sun Safety first, always drink beer when wearing a helmet!
  8. How are you mounting that onto the tree?
  9. I used to find an o rig a PITA if i wanted to advance my line on the way up, if I didnt hit my top anchor with the throwline straight away. Used to just use a sling to the hitchclimber. Easier changeovers.
  10. The O rig is great but I dont think ive used it more than a handful of times. A tweak ive not tried but heard is good is the ring over the legs of the hitch cord on a vt. Drew was rocking that for a bit and it looked like it minimised the sit back in the hitch a bit. Hook that up with an adjustable O rig and it would be a pretty tweaked setup!
  11. Thanks
  12. Cheers Ian, that's done.
  13. Would be cool helping out on a project like that. Are you planning to go help Sven next year then Ian?
  14. Cheers Ian, I had seen the first but no the one with the hammocks. Nice!
  15. I know its not tropical but I thought I should put this slideshow on from earlier in the year. [ame=http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VUAtLgCel4k]Long John Silver - YouTube[/ame]
  16. Ive got some mates who worked in about 5 places travelling down the east coast. Could be good fun if you could get the work to fund the travelling and just keep moving on to another farm.
  17. Luke it just has to be a total of three months work in any of the applicable postcodes. Can be 3 different jobs in 3 different places etc.. As long as you work 3 months in a rural area.
  18. Dan, that is the exact get up I use with the uni. Its minimal, fast and if you have one of those kong futura hand ascenders it wraps up to nothing and stows on your back. Old Mill, whats your current setup on the HH ??
  19. If you can get 3 months tree work in a rural area in your first year that counts towards your regional work, allowing you to get a second year added to your visa.
  20. Paul when its sorted out and have ne tuned I think it will everything the uni has but a more intuitive smooth release. To be fair though Ive only had a uni just over a month and im only now starting to get used to feathering it without taking a wrap. Need more practice. I was smooth pretty quick on the bulldog when using the right rope.
  21. I don't know Waldo, rather know of him through Grant who was telling me how you guys pretty much organised and got funding for your own trip. I think he was trying to inspire me to do the same. I just need to meet some more geeks like myself who are equally as interested. Sounds like a cool trip. Will check out the fb page.
  22. Give me a bell over xmas. Can go to the spiderjackery tree again.
  23. Very addictive!! Great work for a first splice too. You'll be splicing everything you can get your hands on next!
  24. Cheers Luke. Hope you are getting on ok with the splicing. Should have a go over the holidays.
  25. Yup I'm glad I have never had to remove a big fig. Taken a small one down in a back garden and within 10 minutes I was so covered in latex glue type sap I couldnt even take my hand of the saw. Had to peel it off using fuel/oil mix. I'd much rather be climbing around looking at all the cool epiphytes..
