  1. Cheers MOG. Im guessing thats 1.35m after the fishermans are tied, seems like it would be well short if it were before they are tied. Just watched it again man, awesome climb. One day I might be half that good..
  2. Give me some instructions on how to do it Drew and it will be done!
  3. Good to know David. Thanks, I imagined pollarding them and leaving some lower sap risers to keep them going, would they still die if you left a few branches on do you think? Just lack of carbs if done that quickly?
  4. Pollards? If they are your trees and you want the wood and to keep them alive it is an option that has been used for hundreds of years. If you pollard them now, imagine how cool they would look in 50 to 100 years as old lapsed pollards. Then again they probably look just as cool now so you can appreciate them in your lifetime.
  5. To be fair an ass reduction would mean you would need a softer chair Phil!!
  6. Would be an awesome opportunity for someone. Sadly im not experienced or qualified enough Dont spose there are any trainee jobs going Josh?
  7. Cheers Chris, would like to get down and see this strop in action.. Was fun last year.
  8. Here is the finished product.. Finally! I need to stop messing about with it:sneaky2:
  9. Bottom of this page: http://arbtalk.co.uk/forum/climbers-talk/11582-my-splicing-attempts-49.html That was before I tried the spacer and sirius though. Since then Ive stitched an eye for the retrieval shackle too.
  10. Why don't you try making your hitch, get it the perfect length and then mark and cut at the appropriate point...
  11. I though I would call them after a month or two. Perhaps I will leave it a bit longer before I start making calls on this basis. Nagging them won't get me anywhere.
  12. Like this one? I had to cut down the sides of the ultralegere to get the retrieval ball to fit, but it does fit in very nicely width wise.
  13. Another useful knot for sending a rope up to a climber.
  14. Old school.. replaced by the blakes hitch in most cases which is less fussy and needs to be checked less often.
  15. :001_rolleyes:Stoneage.. say some.
  16. Same as a knut but with a marl instead of a half hitch at the end of the knot.
  17. Type of french prussic, tied with a single cord. Related to the machard tresse tied with a loop. The legs alternate which one is on top at the braids, unlike the valdotain which is the same leg on top each time.
  18. Seems like the most useful, commonly used knot for me. First one to learn!

    Knut

Twists the rope less than a VT
  20. Essentially a blakes hitch but tied into both ends. Seems like a good introduction knot to advanced friction hitches, binds less than the distel (for me).
  21. Cheers MOG, Awesome climb by the way.
  22. How long is that eye to eye MOG? That knut looks like it self tends really well!
  23. Tree Services Magazine - FEATURES - Splicing 101 posted on treebuzz recently. gives a good idea of how to check your splices..
  24. I would second that. Hadleigh is your man!
