  1. Very nice. I don't even use a ring on mine. Just a very short prussic loop out of 8mm sirius. Less links, less to fail. And no more jingly noise than I already have!
  2. Don't think so...
  3. :thumbup:Well done Steve, Looks like you had a great time and all for an excellent cause.
  4. So you can use your lanyard as an SRT lanyard without potentially loading the biner badly by choking it. Gives you double the length on the lanyard.
  5. He is the man when it comes to splicing:thumbup:
  6. I spliced my 'partially used' xtc spearmint with no problems. Should be do-able.. Don't live near Manchester though..
  7. When I grow up I want to climb just like that:001_tt2: Really keen to try a spiderjack now!
  8. Yea, I may have the same issue when I come to loler my kit if I start climbing professionally. Let me know how you get on with the process:thumbup1:
  9. Haha Yea i'm sure it was, but it was mainly a jab at myself for not spotting it. Sadly I couldn't have made it even if I had known. Looks like a fantastic place though! Look forward to the rest of the pictures of beastly entish vets!
  10. Amazing trees! Why do I never hear about these trips until after
  11. Had a few in our roof space. Trap them and then shoot them in a controlled manner. Then plug up the hole that they are getting into! Worked for us. By the way, if you are putting down bait in the trap, use bounty bars or snickers! They love them!
  12. Fire
  13. That's when you know you are getting pretty damn good at a language!
  14. I guess if you were really that worried about it, you could girth a couple of very short webbing slings onto the rings and maybe stitch/tape them to they stay girthed and in place when not in use. Just more hassle though for something I clip into so rarely anyway.
  15. Yea I guess there is a bit of potential there for twisting and carabiners rubbing on webbing. Guess you just have to be careful! Perhaps the the reason the treemotion ones are rated to suspension is that they keep the crab separate from the rest of the webbing etc.
  16. Hi bob, Just out of curiosity what are the issues? Wondered because I clip into the ones on my TreeMagic. As mentioned by some, I personally can't think of any problems as the bridge essentially runs through them.

David, if that is the OPAL study, it is very similar to the method I used for my study. Do you have the pdf? I think you can download it somewhere. I think that method just uses easily identified indicator species. If you can't find it online and you need/want it let me know and I can email it to you. When you get up the tree maybe consider sampling from different heights in the canopy. I tended to find that different species were at the top from the bottom of the tree. However, most of my sampling was done in woodlands, rather than on trees standing alone in full light where the same amount of light gets to the bottom as the top. Sounds really interesting. My guess would be pollution tolerant lichens around the edges of the heath and perhaps slightly more tolerant ('intermediate species' I think they are called in the survey) towards the centre of the heath. Please keep us updated!
  18. Is this colourful enough? I'm not even sure it is a fungus? So I thought I would show it to you guys.. My dad took this photo in Southern Spain about a month ago. From what I remember I think he said it was on a Cherry log. I can check.. Any ideas what it is or if it's a fungus at all?
  19. Is that actually taking weight? or just for piece of mind? I don't really worry about the rope not holding me. I think the main thing I need to improve is just changing the way I climb. I think I am still trying to climb with my arms too much maybe, which has been giving me a bit of wrist pain when I SRT because I am obviously putting more weight on my wrist than when I use DRT. I guess just practice

Lets hope so. Pretty unlikely I would get the chance/have the time. But I thought it would be useful info for anyone else that may be interested and fancy a climbing holiday! Cheers mrtree.. You seem to know something about everything!
  21. 100% trying a TreeMotion for my next harness! Shame it will be a while.. My TreeMagic has years left in it at the moment. If TreeMotions were no good why would so many people be using them and loving them!? Interested in peoples opinions of how the TMotion compares to the TMagic?

Thank mrtree. Thats what I meant. Perhaps I could have explained myself better..
  23. Cool cheers guys, good to know I sort of understand the most efficient way to go about doing it. Now I guess I just need to practice more to get comfortable with it... practice makes perfect as they say! Does anyone have any other genius tips to make the transition easier?
  24. Mentioned in another thread, I have been trying to get used to climbing the whole tree SRT using a singing tree rope wrench. But I am having trouble making the switch and climbing in a different mindset/way. I keep swapping between DRT and SRT which may not help the situation. Anyway just a quick question for those that have made the switch. Do you plan your route round the tree (if reducing, deadwooding or thinning for example) like a series of tubes from the redirected tie in point to the lowest branch within the area you can work from that TIP? Then go back up and change your redirect to a different part of the tree for the nest tube (for want of a better word). If that doesnt make any sense hopefully this very bad drawing in paint will explain what I am trying to ask.. So in the picture the guy would go from top to bottom, roughly in like with the redirected climbing line, then move to one of the other 'tubes' shown in the right hand pictures? Down, Up, then the next tube etc? Does that make sense? And is that how you would go about getting round the tree?
  25. I was stood about 10m away from a Scots pine when it shed a limb in the snow last year. Awesome sound!
