  1. Does anyone live in the North London area and know of any A* spots for climbing. If not I will do a bit of research and have a reccy myself soon.
  2. Good stuff.. If it is only a few of us interested i'm sure we could find a little woodland that is easy for all of us and just start climbing.. If it becomes a bigger thing we may have to try and find a more private venue.
  3. Cool nice to know some people are interested.. I was thinking Hertfordshire somewhere? A nice early spring day?
  4. Wow! Amazing tree. Is that at Burnham or Whippendell?
  5. Hi guys, After the success of the S/E climbing days, I thought why not try and arrange one for those of us on the other side of the big smoke. Anyone interested?
  6. Anything will work with a bit of tinkering.. Im using spliced 8mm amour pruss or 8mm beeline at the moment on my yale fire. Which I think is the same construction as scorch, just different colours.
  7. Cheers HighScale! Am I right in thinking that they should in theory be stronger the more cover you leave in? I would quite like to get them destruction tested now. Just curious. Thanks for the tip!
  8. Yo Dood. Lol. Let me know how you get on with them please mate!
  9. I couldnt tell you exactly. But using a 7"7/8 bury. Count 8 strands up to make mark T (in the samson instructions) and then I counted up every 5 strands. To the end of the cover marking every 5th. I then removed one from each pair of strands at each mark and one from the pair of strands going the other direction above the marked pair. Afterwards, I thought maybe I should gone for the 4/5/4/5 etc. or just taken both pairs out fully. But I wanted to continue with the same method to keep some continuity in the friction cord.
  10. I think the reason I struggled getting them any closer was because I didnt reduce the volume of the cover enough. But that should make the splice stronger right?
  11. Impressive mate! Are all the AP ones you do class 1? I heard somewhere AP can be done as a class 1 or 2 but that 2 was a bit stronger.. Any ideas where I can get some of my splices destroyed, for peace of mind? I trust them, but I just want to know they are much stronger than a bowline for sure. When you gunna get those ropeguide pictures up ya lazy git?
  12. Tom, are they good for climbing? or does the grippy part just wear off like cheap gripper gloves. I really want some nice, fairly thin, grippy, longer lasting gloves!?! Too much to ask:confused1:
  13. Can you get the francitals Justin? I already have some cordex's:001_smile:
  14. Im tempted to give these a go for climbing.. FRANCITAL CLIMBING GLOVES NON PROTECTIVE Protective Clothing Buy Chainsaw Gloves Buy UK For rigging I have some petzl cordex belay gloves. Petzl Cordex Belay Gloves - Black Petzl Cordex Abseilers Belay Gloves [K52 Size N] - £26.67 : Abaris International Ltd , Equipment for Rope Access and Rescue, Work at height, Arborists, Adventure Parks, Water Rescue, Expeditioners and Outdoor Pursuit
  15. Cheers, Hadleigh sent me a new AP hitch cord and it inspired me to get some practise in! Bit lazy with the whipping:sneaky2:. Just too much effort lock stitching any closer to the eyes. My hands were sore enough from the splices!
  16. A couple from this week. Gotta keep my hand in. Last splices I did were a few months ago now.
  17. Standard, Half standard, feathered etc etc. Im sure the literature is available somewhere online. Tried the RHS website?
  18. HA! Well to be fair they could quite easily use another weighting material if it was proven to be a problem. If you want to send me a free TreePaedo I would happily give you a non bias comparison of the two!
  19. LOL mate nobody is shooting the messenger! I know very well the effects of lead poisoning. The point is how much lead do you need to ingest to suffer the effects of lead poisoning? My thoughts would be a lot. As Arbs we are unlikely to be taking in huge amounts of lead. Even with a throwbag used everyday. I would be more concerned about climbing plane trees in summer everyday without a face mask..
  20. Yes and because it is no inert, all you have to do is wash your hands before you eat.. I think it is only likely to become a problem unless you handle bare lead 24/7, day in day out. Do you propose air rifle pellets are made out of steel instead? oh and shot for shotguns. Unless you actively ingest lead it is unlikely to cause an issue.
  21. error 404 document not found. tbh lead is not a problem while it is sealed up in a nice little bag. plus it is a highly stable element that is not going to leach out of the throwbag if it got wet for example. what is the problem? fishermen never have issues with poisoning fish with their lead weights... edit: sorry the link works if you delete where it says thumbdown afterwards.. duuuhhh
  22. Upside down klemheist surely?
  23. I would have to agree Tom. Its more like a novel at the beginning than a book about trees. Some very good content too though!
  24. Good I am mega excited about it. Thats why I've been trying as many different ways of climbing SRT as possible before it is released. I emailed gustharts and they said around March sometime. They were not prepared to give a rough idea of the price sadly.. I know there are still some issues regarding the wear plates and the level of rope abrasion. There were a few threads on treebuzz about adding friction for longer descents to help the longevity of the wear surfaces. Bring on the Uni:thumbup:
  25. I'm not rude am I?
