  1. That's gotta be the worst possible thing to do! Was the 150 a replacement for the old entec?
  2. I think you've had enough abuse. There are always different opinions - the joy of a forum. Good luck. Maybe it would be for the best for the mods to lock this thread
  3. A glitch in the matrix?? Do we all have to glide around in long black coats. Could be a good way to get to those extreme branch tips.
  4. Just thought - you are a landy man Defenderjack, why not fill your auxilliary tank at the garage then drain it at home? We must drive these poxy rust-heaps for some reason.
  5. Never been challenged. My record is 11 cans in one go (green, red and yellow). I usually do about 8 or so at our local garages and they are fine. My tactic is to take them in the back of my defender and just open the back door, then fill them inside the landy. I never fill up at the supermarkets anyway, if we keep doing that all the local garages will disappear and we will have drive miles to join monster queues at the out of town Tesco.
  6. Calling all groundies on here... How much would you want to be paid to jog back from the chipper and always look as if you are working flat out? Calling all owners/managers... (well, those who believe it matters) How much would you pay someone to jog back from the chipper and always look as if they are working flat out? If the two numbers tally - DO IT As long as everyone's happy
  7. With reference to the title, Everyone's view of hard work is different. Arb work is PHYSICAL - it's up to you if you want to make it HARD. Seems like you do, sorry but you give the impression of being a macho merchant.
  8. I really thought the running bit must have been a joke. Never mind. You are what I call a perception merchant, as long as things look busy they must be. I asked my guys today about running and their comments were... Who are we running for? You, the customer, certainly not for ourselves. How much do you intend to pay us to look like *****? Foo Koff Why do you read such rubbish on that stupid forum? I tend to agree with them - and I'm the one who runs the business. This whole thread has been so awful its funny.
  9. This is all getting a bit personal, time for bed now, busy day tomorrow burning groundies.
  10. I'll ask my guys about this tomorrow and I promise to report back exactly what they say. Expect a few @%# etc.
  11. How many hours a day do you expect these guys to do this? It seems to be all about looking busy. My guys walk everywhere but they work hard till I tell them to stop. Some days we finish as 12:30 or 1:00 then we go home. Work hard, work smart - Remember the bullock? 'dad, let's run over to the field and service a cow' 'No son, let's walk over to the field and service them all'
  12. The 9 ages of a tree surgeon are - 1 Not a clue, but were doing that topic next week 2 You know how but can only just do it. 3 You know how and you can do it easily. 4 You've been doing it before they were born. 5 You can still do it but you don't know how. 6 You are better at supervising than doing. 7 It's all too easy nowadays. 8 Nurse, nurse, my drip's come out 9 Time to move to Worthing (Dover for the continent, Worthing for the incontinent)
  13. At least he hasn't been imprisoned for tax evasion - unlike one of the do-good presenters of that show.
  14. I've never used the services of a prostate in my life:lol:
  15. You can sharpen the chain on a top handled saw a lot easier than a silky blade. When you cost out the replacement blades it works out bl33din expensive, even if they save the day. I guess we must be real men down here in Sussex (excluding Brighton, obviously)
  16. Nice one! It's usually the low life scumbags who get all the publicity, theres plenty of good out there too.
  17. Just need to weld a multi tip flywheel onto the rear hub and you're away! But seriosly, it looks like a fun project - your missus must be sooooo understanding.
  18. When I read this I thought my son had set up an account on here under an alias:lol: (remember my thread on getting caught short) Oh the joys of ageing.
  19. Every pound you reduce your price by is a pound off your profit. And once your profit is below zero YOU are paying THEM THERE ARE NO EXCEPTIONS
  20. Enjoy it! Any work that makes a profit is worth doing - do as much as you want/can to allow a balance with leisure time and family.
  21. Think of it as a sign they don't know how to price a job. If they are offering a 'cheapo' service they will appeal to the type of customers you probably don't want anyway. In a year or so when theyve gone under due to no profit, you'll still be going strong.
  22. Many options, 3 main ones from what I've seen. Never - we are careful all the time so no need for all that guff. Always - its professional and while nobody plans a mis-hap botties must be covered just in case. When someone is looking - if you are in a public area, sub contracting etc. Which option you chose depends on a lot of things, attitude, fear/respect of the law. Just beware that if something did happen and some smart legal bod asks you to show all your old risk assessments... its up to YOU (I think we all know the answer though)
  23. You don't need to include your own time on a self-build, unless you built it INSTEAD of being out earning money. On the assumption this was all done in your 'spare' time I think you have done a brilliant job. Built a superd grinder on a tiny budget, and it looks so professional.
