  1. This may be stating the obvious but, has the other side of the hedge gone brown at the same places?
  2. This may or may not be of interest - Theres a bloke on ebay on one of the islands who always seems to have some big kit for sale - maybe he will be happy to hire one out.
  3. Thats better than any offer I've had recently.
  4. You're not the Messiah, youre a very naughty boy.
  5. Good stuff, is there no end to your talent?
  6. But I'm only gnome sized so a forum is my only place to comment safely:lol: They won't even let me in the pub!
  7. A forum is for people to discuss issues, offer advice etc. This is a brilliant one - lots of good advice on kit and methods. I like the idea of having 'a bit of a go' but we all draw the line somewhere different. Sometimes opinions come into the equation, and different people have different opinions. We all think WE are right. When something is written down it can come across very harshly - if we were talking face to face the same words would be said in a manner (I hope) which would make the message less aggressive. I'm happy to publicly apologise to Horatio if my comments caused offense over the 'Running from the chipper' issue. We all work very hard to do the best job we can. I agree some of us need to consider how the messages might be perceived.
  8. I've just done the oil filter on mine (34 hp turbo daihatsu motor) with an 'off the shelf' filter NOT of daihatsu persuasion. I googled the code on the daihatsu filter and got loads of other manufacturers cross refs. The filter I fitted cost a couple of quid an is Filtron OP564. (from local Camberley Autofactors). I've run the machine for about 6 hours since changing it so it seems fine. As for other bits just get googling - I'm sure they are all out there.
  9. Looks interesting, I like the idea of screening out witheld numbers - my phone supplier said they couldn't do that with their technology! How much does it cost?
  10. There's a thing called a pallet chipper which might do it. You just drop whole pallets in and it disintegrates them.
  11. I really feel for you, Steve. My parents are now starting to show signs of dementia. It's such a worry. My dad has been ripped off so many times by car dealers in recent years. Like you say, there's a limit to what you can do. just a shame theres so many evil ****s out there who prey on them. Dunno the answer - though someone once said you can reduce any sort of behaviour massively by applying the death sentence for it - but nanny state etc.... Good luck.
  12. Whatever makes you feel better Shame, no typo. Great come back, so page 20. Just out of interest how tall are you? How old are you? Why does my height matter? FFS grow up. I'm not being drawn any further into this - it's getting pathetic.
  13. Ah, Shane you really seem to have the knack off annoying me. You drivel you write just seems to pick at every little thing just for the sake of causing a stir. By the way the only way I would ever be near a bonfire with you is if you were the Guy Fawkes. Oh, and on a kinder note please could you amend your "motto" thing at the bottom of every post as I think I should read as follows. __________________ And then one day you find, ten years have got behind you, no-one told you when to brisk walk (x run x), you missed the starting gun. :lol:So you WERE bullied at school:lol:
  14. You can attach a cutter to the telescopic shaft of a stihl BUT there is an issue. The chainsaw attachment (so I am told) has a clutch which will release pressure from the shaft if the chain locks on something. the engine/drive system on the telescopic pole therefore has no clutch built in. The cutter head is designed to run on a machine with a clutch at the engine end, so if you run a cutter on a telescopic pole there is no clutch anywhere in the drive train. A lot of the time that's OK but if you end up catching a thick twig and the cutters lock up then the telescopic shaft takes a real beating. This is how it was explained to me when I wrecked my Stihl tele-shaft using it for hedge cutter. I guess other companies have a clutch somewhere in the system - but that's why Stihl say you shouldn't use a trimmer on a tele-pole. Maybe some of the tecchies on here will correct me if I'm wrong|
  15. He's so cute - is it a grass snake?
  16. If someone is 'working' for you and you are not happy with their efforts - Tell them what is expected, and what will happen if they don't pull their weight. If they don't meet your expectations, after you have warned them, the ball is in your court. Get rid of them and get a replacement - or put up with it. If you have reasonable expectations then finding a replacement will be a doddle. If you struggle to find someone to work 'your way' then maybe, just maybe, your expectations are a bit off. I get the impression that your reluctance to accept that anything less than running is a sign of laziness is a catalyst for most of the venom in this thread. In the same way that you have perceptions based on walking/running speed maybe others are picking up perceptions on your choice of words. I suspect if this thread has been a bunch of guys sat round a bonfire it would have been a lot more amicable (either that or you would have kicked the cr@p out of all of us).
  17. If you hate them that much why don't YOU go and make life hell for the local 'scum' ? That's exactly why others don't.
  18. It's good to know we all look after the wildlife, what a bunch of softies we all are. I remember the thread with the woodpecker chics - aaaaaah that was cute.
  19. They couldn't possibly have, and thats that! Now get back to your running practice.
  20. Nice coronet cut. They should be shot for that!
  21. I dread to think - the odd dead squirrel (it was dead before, honest) and unfinished lunches plus tons more no doubt.
  22. Just finishing the chipping today when Spoons (another arbtalk member) pushed us out of the way and hit the stop bar. We thought he had spotted a half brick or chunk of wire but NO... There in the infeed hopper was a whopping great toad. Mr Toad was duly placed back in the garden:thumbup1: Just wondering what the poor little guy (the toad, not Spoons) was thinking with all that noise and just a few inches from the infeed rollers- eeek! Great save Ross - now get running again.
  23. I really enjoy it. I like being my own boss, the responsibility is a real buzz. Sometimes I wake up early thinking about todays job and how we can do it best. I'll never be a millionaire but I don't care. You can't put a price on getting out of bed because you WANT to get on with the days work. Always nice to get happy customers, TOs or whoever you are dealing with. And growing the business to a size I am happy with. Best years of my working life!
  24. If you feel that sparring (I guess thats what you meant) with Royce Gracie is a significant factor in all this I'd suggest it makes you look even move of a macho nob-head than you first appeared to be.
  25. Oooh bugger - not so good. Yes my chipper is OK, just need to kick the infeed funnel to open it - used a 20 ton jack to re-align it but it slowly eases back to the 'bent' shape. maybe contact greenmech to get a price on a new chute then it will be back to perfect condition. Go easy and don't buy too much petrol!
