  1. I got a parking ticket on my Vivaro van last December. With all the Christmas hassle etc and being busy, I forgot to pay it within the 30 days. I went online to the council website to pay the £60 fine and found out the ticket had been cancelled. Turns out even though they had uploaded the photos and all the details etc, they had listed it as a Ford transit. If they had tried to take me to court the case wouldnt have stood up and I got off with it. That put a big smile on my face for ages!
  2. He uses the same hairdresser as Arthur Scargill did:thumbup:
  3. Robert Gordons University in Aberdeen are about to rescind his honoraray degree that they gave him recently for building his toffs golf course on the nearby coastline. I have disliked him since he did this, long before he opened his gob and proved he was an arse!
  4. How about Since you've Been Gone by Rainbow. Send everyone away rockin'.
  5. More Americans kill each other every day with guns than are killed by extreme Muslims. Perhaps they should look at that first if they want to prevent a few needless deaths!. Sorry I forgot that Muslims dont have a politically powerful and wealthy lobby called the NRA on their side preventing any change to gun control laws. Its just an unfortunate coincidence that these same laws allow access to the same kind of guns for extermists of any or no religion. Bit ironic isnt it?
  6. Gas forges seem to be reasonably easy to get hold of as a lot of schools had them and no longer use them. I was offered one a few months ago but turned it down as I dont have enough room in the workshop. Thats not to say I wouldnt fancy having a go as I did welding at night school for a year and have done milling, turning and grinding at day release classes for a year. I enjoy working with meatal as its so different to the cabinet making I do for a living.
  7. How many terrorists do you think this will keep out:biggrin:
  8. Hi Jon I dont like to think I'm in the rat race, I prefer to be on the sidelines sticking my foot out now and again, tripping people up as they run past. Its my son Josh who insists on the super fast broadband. He is a tech freak and in his 3rd year at Uni doing a degree in website coding. He is earning bloody good money doing the website for a doors and window company for 2 days a week and also working about 35 hours a week at Morrisons. OK to keep up at 20 years old but not a lifestyle I would wish to do at 52.
  9. I read most of it and I am glad I am not a firewood supplier with her for a customer!
  10. We have 100mb here and soon to go up to 150 with virgin. My son is a total computer nerd and is always wanting faster. He is paying for the extra as I think 100mb is fast enough. My mate a few miles away is really chuffed that he can get 12mb with EE. Another rural mate about 20 miles away is on the equivalent of dialup still. He has to measure his download speed with a calander:lol:
  11. Creusen make a slow speed grinder for sharpening chisels and plane blades. APTC are the uk dealers
  12. There are a lot of good dealers in the US, some of whom are on ebay. I have found bits for my bostitch nail guns there that I couldnt get in the UK. They were also a hell of a lot cheaper, even taking postage into account. Posting up a request on some of the US based chainsaw forums might also bring you some luck as well. Mike
  13. My wife wouldnt wear them but I might get a pair for my 13 year old daughter for when she helps me out on my stand at Xmas craft fairs. She would definetly wear them. The orange would compliment her ginger hair.
  14. Hi Jon, my old aunty in Frome gets more snow than we do up in Scotland. I pefer it in the mountains where I go skiing at Glenshee or Aonoch Mor. Mike
  15. How secure is the piece of land? I would be more concerned with someone nicking them!
  16. Im up in Fife, just north of Edinburgh. Need to have a better look on Ebay
  17. I am doing a few xmas fairs in the next few weeks and thought I would treat myself to a pair of Doc Marten shoes as they are the most comfortable shoes for standing around in. The prices I have found so far vary from about 50 quid to 90 quid for the same ones, just bog standard, nothing fancy. Has anyone found a good supplier at a reasonably cheap price. Must be able to order online as we have no one around who sells them. Thanks Mike
  18. I had a pensioner who spent a couple of hours in my workshop looking at every bit of wood and asking questions etc. I hauled out every large board of timber from big stacks so he could see it properly. I think he was waiting for me to give it to him for nothing. There was no chance of that as I know he plays golf at the local posh golf club at least 3 times a week and drives a 40k new car. He left empty handed and hasnt been back since. I now put some interesting timbers aside for a local turner who is a pensioner and all the money he makes from turning goes towards his air fare for visiting relatives in Australia. He gets them for free as as well.
  19. Thats easy - the proper firewood merchants will comply with the regulations, the cowboys wont and it would be too much of a battle to get them to comply with the regs!
  20. I get my Vauxhall vivaro van serviced by an ex vauxhall mechanic who is brilliant and only charges £35 an hour. He isnt vat registered and I get receipts. I have a garage next door to me but the mechanic had a heart attack about a year ago and isnt really interested in the business. Pity as it was dead handy, but he took so long to do simple jobs it was cracking me up.
  21. Its happening this weekend in Peebles. Lots to do, lots to see and lots to eat. I am exhibiting my wares in the Wood Market in the community centre and if you do pop in remember to say hello. Mike
  22. I like that.
  23. Morrisons start to sell their puff pastry mince pies:thumbup:

    Stove

I have a nice size hole in mine just a couple of inches down from yours. Buying a Techniks stove shortly, probably about 20KW as I have a big workshop. I cant complain though as I have used mine for about 12 years and deprived the robbing barsteward power companies of a few quid to heat the workshop. Still cant convince my wife to get a stove in the house though!
  25. Wouldnt use it for flooring as it will be too soft. Probably best for outdoor use such as cladding, seating or fences or indoots where its not going to get a lot of wear and tare such as skirting, cladding etc
