1. I have been at the Tattoo at least 7 or 8 times to see mates play in the pipe bands etc. Never fails to impress people. Downside is as its so popular tickets are hard to come by at this time of year.
2. If you want to venture as far north as Edinburgh there is always the Festival and the Fringe. Edinburgh is always buzzing I August but accommodation can be hard to find there. Loads of street theatre and activities, well worth a visit just for the atmosphere. Mike
3. My mate picked up one of these at an auction a few years ago for under £50. Works brilliantly and fires up easily. We reckon it was used by a furniture manufacturer who needed to crosscut logs that they imported directly from Africa and South America. They had a railway line right next to the factory and the whole logs were offloaded there. I think it would be a bit scary to use and we havent tried it out in anger yet.
4. That's looking good. I am sure the final recipient will be delighted and the envy of all his pals.
5.
Glad you like it Stuart, cant wait to see the finished item as I am sure your client cant wait either. Definitely has the wow factor

6. I was just being polite and not mentioning that most of them have deep pockets and short arms:thumbdown:
7. Sure as hell beats buying them. Best bit about milling timber yourself is that you get to mill it at the thickness you want instead of having to buy what the sawmill/ woodturning supplies shed have milled it at. You cant always buy what you want locally or you sometimes have to buy online and trust that the supplier isn't telling you porkies just to get a sale.
8. Its great fun and very addictive once you get into it. Being doing it since 2001 and milled up piles of logs. Better exercise than posing in a gym as well and you have something better than bigger biceps to show for your time. Keep an eye open for the postie tomorrow btw Mike
9. I have been burning sawdust and shavings as well as offcuts and lumps of wood for years in the workshop. Saves having to take it to the recycling centre and the hassle of storing a few big bags until its worth a trip. The only time I would take it to the tip is in the warmer months when the stove isnt lit.
10. I just got the one done for general sale and not for a particular customer. I will be making some more in the next week or 2. I wouldnt have a stand at Silverstone though as it costs several thousands for that.
11. Sorry Steve, you should have gone to Specsavers! Its spelt correctly Mike
12. Been trying to get this one done in time for the Grand Prix at Silverstone this weekend.
13. I have had my Alaskan mill for 15 years now and its been used regularly. As a cabinet maker/laser engraver I use all my own timber after I have kiln dried it. I dont think the chinese copy would lasted that length of time. For the occasional user wanting to try out milling its fine. The most important bit though is sharpening the teeth of the the chain. Get that wrong and no matter how good the saw or mill is, you arent going to be making many planks.

Euro 2016

Bit of a surprise score considering the possession percentage from France.
15. If you check out the wooden business cards thread on the sub forum above the off topic sub forum you will see the wooden business cards I offer at a discount to Arbtalk members. Many people who buy them put some double sided magmetic tape on the back of them so they can be stuck to fridges, computers and workshop machinery so they dont get lost. Mike
16. The thing I like most about the Wales football team success is that the better they do, the worse the England team looks:thumbup:
17. Why dont you copy it and save yourself a few quid!
18. Hi Jon C&F electrical is a local co to me in Glenrothes who are specialist industrial sparkies. They have a section who rewind/fix motors of all sizes and know what they are doing. They have the facilities to sort all sizes of motors. Its also owned by my mate Dave Cunningham who is a woodturner, and they sort all my electrical problems and issues. Dave has been doing this for over 40 years and there isn't a problem they cant fix. I don't know if he is on holiday so you might end up speaking to Brian Carty who runs the sparky side of the business. Worth a phone call on 01592 757176
19. Hi Lazarus, this looks like something up my street. The maximum size I can take in the laser is 457 wide by 305 which is A3. You would need to get the logo in an svg format, preferably in black and white. I can sometimes trace bitmap logos but they arent as good as an svg. Feel free to pm me or send an email to me at [email protected] cheers Mike
