  1. Were you using the HD filter system on the stihl. Makes a big difference. Must have milled at least 100 big trees in our time with an 880 and never had the carb blocked. I also brush carefully around the petrol tank cap to remove find sawdust that could potentially fall into the tank when refuelling. Cleanliness is next to godliness or so the say somewhere!
  2. But only if someone needs that specific size. I would have thought you would have more chance of selling them as boards. If someone then needed a specific size, they could then be cut down to the size they wanted.
  3. The one advantage of using the alaskan mill is that the sawdust gets left where the log lay and not at my workshop. Even my firewood gets cut to length on site to minimise any waste at the workshop.
  4. I hate people who really big up their kids up on facebook etc and call them their little darlings etc for doing something everyday like learning to tie their shoelaces even though they are nearly sixten! Big deal, I dont want to know every little detail of their family life. I just want to throw up
  5. Hi Yes I am selling them. £15 inc delivery. The size will be 150mm square approx. You can pm me for details of how to pay etc. Mike
  6. At last I have got around to making them!
  7. Here is the link to the thread on Aborsite.com which is the American chainsaw forum http://www.arboristsite.com/community/threads/remote-operated-trigger-throttle.272725/ The guru for milling there is BobL who happens to be an Aussie. Mike
  8. I have had the Sauno kiln now for 4 years. I made the first one to their specs but after about 3 loads it fell apart.. I put a plywood sheet on the bottom to help strengthen it but the door design bit was crap. I have just rebuilt it a few months ago to my design and its far better. I built a frame out of doug fir and infilled it with 75mm insulation foam. The floor has 125mm insulation and the door has 100mm of insulation. Its over-engineered but no heat escapes and its more economical to run. Main thing I have changed is allowed 4 inches on each end to let the air circulate properly, and waterproofed the whole of the inside with fibreglass. The fibreglassing was expensive and time consuming but I think it works better than painting the inside of it with aluminium roofing paint which is the American way. Get a good seal around the door as its amazing just how small a gap can slow the temp going up to 70 degrees. I can email you some photos of the build if you pm me your email address if you like. cheers Mike
  9. Stick your spare cash into premium whisky. It doubles in price about every 5 years. Put it away in a very safe place, preferably one where you cant get hold of it when you have had one too many and would be tempted open it. Dont forget to keep receipts etc to help prove provenance when it goes to auction.
  10. Business Accountz basic bought on Amazon as its a lot cheaper there than their website. A lot easier to use than Sage and a good forum to ask questions on:thumbup1:
  11. Thanks mate. I still maintain that any time you see me on a golf course I will have a chainsaw in my hands rather than a golf club. Theres actaully a brilliant pitch and put not too far from the Old Course called the Himalayas which I have played many a time. Reckon Tiger Woods would even struggle on this though given his current form!
  12. Hi Nigel Will certainly look into that for you.
  13. Sorry it took so long. The big 5 hp motor on the drum sander stopped working. Luckily my mate owns a motor rewind and repair company. Even though I use a big extractor when using the drum sander, it was still packed full of fine dust inside it. The centrafugal switch was also sparking and I was close to having a big fire. That could have cost me! Glad you like it though and I am sure your daughter will as well.
  14. Again made from steamed sycamore, measuring 450 wide by 300 tall and about 28mm thick. The artwork for this took ages to do and thats why it wasnt ready for the start of the Open at St Andrews this weekend. As usual it has hanging brackets on the back and is ready to hang on the wall. I was born there and live only 20 miles away now. I love the place but wouldnt go near it during the Open as traffic is a nightmare.
  15. The biggest I can do is A3 which is 457 x 305mm.
  16. I cant help you guys with a branding iron but I do offer a laser engraving service which can include logo's and wording. Mike
  17. How much does the Tonka machine cost?
  18. The biggest stem of rhoddy I have had was 18" in diameter and was a beautiful red colour all the way through. Very hard as well and strange for a plant that grows so fast. I used to cut them all up for pen blanks.
  19. If you can get it onto a trailer and back to a yard for power washing it will save you a lot of time in sharpening chains. Failing that use a wire brush to get rid of most of the dirt and show up the inevitable stones that will be lurking there. Remember to post up the photos, you should have some beautiful timber, with hopefully not too many cracks.
  20. Looks a bit like a big cherry to me. Is it sweet smelling?
  21. I saw one of them last week and it sure looked strange. Totally different to what we are used to seeing. Would love to have a shot on one of them
  22. If someone had a decent quality copy of the image I could knock a few out on the laser in wood.
  23. who or whats Arcadia Jon. Did you make them pay for them or did you get your company details on the side of each one in return for freebies and possible nationwide publicity?
  24. I wasnt too bad as I had a free ticket and kids get in free. 8 quid to park is a rip off considering its just a field and you get stuck if its been raining. It it was tarmac and marked out it would be a lot better. My lassie still managed to dip her fingers in my wallet a few times.
  25. The ladies were climbing today as well so if there are any volunteers out there!
