    Hetas

Would this not help prove the logs are properly dry as you'd get condensation otherwise

    Chickens

I know there must be a few on here who keep chickens and was wondering if anyone used saw dust from a chainsaw in the nest boxes or roosts, and if they had any problems with it due to moisture or dust. I'm getting some hens soon I hope and looking to save the odd penny . Thanks
  5. How weird I'm getting some hens soon and was thinking of asking on here if sawdust is suitable for bedding Sorry for the derail but someone on a poultry forum said it might be too damp or dusty, I assume you've had no problems ?
  6. I did this years ago on a top handled echo which as i recall had the fuel tank by the bar and oil went in the back. stupid thing wouldn't fire up no matter how many times I primed it ! Same story though, washed out with petrol a few times, ran a bit smokey for abit then fine ..
  7. Damn, still was doubting myself when thinking about it . I'm sure rowans round my way are more of a rusty chocolaty colour though, but ill blame it on the iphone and say i def would have got it in the flesh.
  8. Thanks for the replies all, I've nearly filled the other side now with a nice mix of various hard and soft wood and will be interested to see how dry that beech is come winter
  9. But what was the correct answer ? What was the small tree under the beech ?
  10. I've worked on a tree that I should have bottled ( it failed ) and Im sure I've bottled stuff when I could easily have gone higher and I've worked up a tree with feeding hornets without a problem But in all honesty I'm the biggest chicken around. Bottler and proud !!
  11. Yep all for me as long as I can keep me mates away from it, just can't be bothered to split the branches any smaller as I've still got the other half to fill yet One of the reasons for my concern is I had some apple seasoning last summer and it didn't really seem dry enough this winter and didn't want the beech to be the same
  12. Or even restack
  13. I'm a bit concerned that stacking like this there won't be enough airflow for the ones in the centre to dry especially as some of them haven't been split . I guess it's about 1+ 1/2 m3 at the mo mostly beech. What do you think will it dry or shall I restock it with a pallet in the middle ?
  14. Our local green waste rip off recycling centre £55 + vat for a full transit load, the others not so local are £25 and £20 for chip £40 for unchipped green waste . We rarely pay though by using allotments stables etc
  15. If that's a reply to me I was about to reply to myself to accuse my self of being pedantic Pop ( under a beech ) yew and sweet chestnut
  16. Am I the only one that thinks pics 2 3 + 4 are a pop
  17. Excellent work ! How many flatties did you get though ?? (Only joking I love our trolley, just need a little winch now so we can start dumping numpties)
  18. Two prussiks attached either end of my rope with two carabinas, silky and a spare karabina because I'd lose it if it wasn't there. Any thing else gets sent up later. And no I don't know how to spell krabiniar and neither does my lap top.

    Old Holly

Well I guess the easiest way to find out is to drop him (or Her) . Whats the normal cycle for coppicing holly then ? unless you have an increment borer thingy to hand of course.

    Old Holly

Unless I've found the wrong thing it looks to me like the burke and wills one is on a wound on the stem rather than the bark and cambium. Not trying to start a fight or anything just waiting for some pva to dry.

    Old Holly

How could those dates still be showing after over 100 years surely they'd have callused over. Not doubting the age of the tree or digging any one out here just seems unlikely to me, how much girth would they have put on in that time?
