  1. I have been asked to try and sell these logs as there taking up too much space and we'll never get round to doing anything with them ourselves . They are between two months and four years old and have been stored on a hard standing, sorry I haven't measured any but have left some things in for scale. If anyone wants to make an offer or suggest where I could sell them they are more than welcome. they are 5 mins off the A3 near Kingston on Thames with good access.
  2. I've been given a rough guide of £100 per meter for the lining, this was from a shop so I'm guessing this is the top end of the market you can buy the liner on-line at about £17, or £30 per meter for a heavy duty one , the stuff you backfill with is about £20 for 100 litres, not sure how much all the other bits and bobs are . I'm still waiting for a quote to install my stove and he'd better hurry up its getting nippy !!
  3. I ruled out all cornus due to the stringy threads in the veins unless any one can tell me any different :-) .
  4. What book is that Rob?
  5. If you scroll through Google images you can find a few close ups of the twig, the pear doesn't appear to be scaly but the Elaeagnus does , compare these to my last pic of the twig on the chipper. I think Elaeagnus wins
  6. Sorry but just googled the images for the Elaeagnus and the pear again and the pear loses in my eyes.
  7. People with dreadlocks tend to have a slightly musty aroma ,whereas a pair of trousers that have been dragged around dirty hedges and slimy sycamores and not washed for a month or two tend to be offensive enough to put me off my cheese and pickle:001_smile:
  8. As soon as they start to kick up straight in the machine at 40 . I've never understood the why some people don't wash their trousers , is there a reason for it ?
  9. Its not too far away so I will try and get some if I remember.
  10. Very confidently put Carricktreeman and according to google rightly so. (never did think it was a pear) Now did you spot my other other one that seems to have everyone stumped.
  11. http://arbtalk.co.uk/forum/general-chat/33166-simon-says-laser-says.html
  12. Not wishing to pee on anyone's fire here but I think someone recently put several links up to height measuring apps , it was on a thread about a fancy laser height measuring device.
  13. I've always found bypass to be far more robust as when anvil ones are being abused the blade can twist and miss the anvil. I'm using a stihl set at the moment that aren't telescopic and were £40, and seem good so far. As for the finished cut , I've always found it pretty rubbish really unless there brand new and only really use them for topping hedges rather than proper pruning work. I'm not talking about telescopic pruners like the ones above but two handled loppers for closer work by the way
  14. Only seen it the once but I'll see if I can pop back some time , It was actually on a large verge next to the road so not sure who owned it.
  15. Mulberry ?
  16. Thought elm at first but now think pop (or elm)
  17. I didn't get it straight away but it was the root suckers that made my brain click, funnily enough I hadn't seen any biguns till I changed companies , the new area was almost abundant with them .
  18. Ola

Think most of its gone Dom but I'll let you know if you're desperate.

where's your yard now ? we could possibly drop loads off when you get them if you're local

  19. Looks like a bay to me .. Worked mine out yet?
  20. I'm happy to be proven wrong but I believe a strong ident feature of all cornus sp is the stringy/silky threads that are left from the veins if you pull the leaf apart and this tree didnt have this, also the leaf veins didn't seem curved enough. Other than these two points cornus would have been my guess too.
  21. Sorry have ruled out both Cornus and P padus . Guess i'm gonna have to give up on this one unless any one has any more suggestions .
  22. didnt get many but there is a slightly better one of the leaf and a not very clear one of the whole tree with the eucrphia (?) on the left
  23. This is the whole tree which I managed not to upload and hopefully a better pic showing the fruit. Have never seen salicifolia as large or with an open crown like that wasn't sure about the fruit either. do the extra pics help ? thanks
  24. Anyone ?
  25. Anyone else care to have a stab at the second one ?
