If you get in a pickle, there is no way of cutting your line to escape if your using your side D's. Never had the need to do this myself.

Can always drill a hole in the handle and put a key ring ring through it and tie a tether to it. I just keep mine in pocket or stuffed down T shirt etc, not best practice, just don't fall with it there.

The felcos I use most were bought in the 70's, swivel handles are well worn. Would not really bother with any other makes, yes you can break the blades if you get greedy with them, but they are a consumable

Why avoid forestry? Its good experience, you will become a good cutter. Its generally away from the public. Its brutal on saws and your body. You use a lot of fuel etc, pay not that good. Midges. Need we go on?
