  1. cant comment on price but having looked into selling recently best prices were talked about on meeting some conditions 3 metre lengths roadside access for artic is best all horrible twisty stuff kept clear, well snedded, basically a nice easy stack for artic to come in and load. Failing that get somebody in with a mobile proccessor for a day, do a deal on pile you have. No expert by far , just started learning so sharing what i know.
  2. i had a milwaukee 18v one and it was ok, replaced with a 18v 5ah dewalt one and its streets ahead, batteries are great and wow it shifts all i ask. Mate has 3/4 drive milwaukee and its incredible, hasnt met a bolt yet wont undo - downside is need new sockets in 3/4.
  3. if your up this way again give me a shout, see if i can arrange you a guided tour with head gardener and a good climber. yeah the removals were pretty much all standing deads on safety grounds or deemed dangerous trees. thankfully we plant a fair amount each winter of specimens so always more planted than removed.
  4. So how did you like Crathes? hoping ok as thats been work for 21 yrs now.
  5. Apart from stocking the stove up say at bedtime where some slow burn stuff like oak is good i think lawsons and leylandii are great - nice hot burn, light to handle and plentiful. Dont understand folks who wont take it.
  6. ok and now i feel special.....its all back to normal! thanks for looking at is Steve
  7. I use pc all the time, just seemed to appear sat.
  8. Hi Steve How do I get a screenshot? Cheers
  9. Hi sorry for post i couldnt find a contact admin option... Is my pc having a moment or is there now many duplicate copies of same topic appeared? Cheers David
  10. Good post Arbmish - having a new boss where i am who is more focused on safety than flat out speed i agree we all need to sometimes stop - think and then act not rush and maybe not go home! Treat newbies right, build up steady and hey one day they are the experienced person leading the newbie, nice new cycle begins. Hammer newbies and they learn to cut corners and take silly risks - then may well pass onto another newbie.........which cycle sounds best!
  11. dont sell but do the firewood for an estate, cant beat lawsons for autumn and spring its seriously quick heat , oak is nice mixed in for depth of winter but needs some softwood for base. birch seems to tar up quick and god it rots fast left in length so i give to guy who is a hardwood snob never understand folks who wont burn softwood, i think its great mixed in so you get best of all worlds every pile into house, in fact for the house i have just started to rent out i have specified into lease deal when they leave sheds must be loaded with a 50/50 mix. wouldnt have any other way.
  12. Sounds like a nasty accident, hope heals well. I have to say unless under commercial pressure i do reckon speed is often not our friend with machines, mine is only able to operate one handed, set up so either solo operator feeding logs and working ram or a 2nd operator at far side feeding sticks and one using ram. The second method is much more productive yet not rushed, does depend on ram operator paying attention but also person on logs being aware of hand position, ie never on front or rear edge of log only outer edges so if in doubt just remove hands and all safe.
  13. good question.
  14. yeah he is a local lad anyway from Tarland so all good. You have a good break?
  15. yep - still same place for me, chris the head gardener got promoted in summer so its now James who is head gardener, came from inverewe. He is a good climber and gardener so thats a boost.
  16. May be able to twist new boss into making a show in scotland a day out.....
  17. 37.5 days per year - take bank hols etc whenever. fixed 7.5 at xmas unpaid leave in 21 years same place never heard of anyone need. no overtime pay so any hrs worked extra claimed back as toil so thats a blessing and curse. Struggle to take all leave, having next week off just to use days. So i would say unpaid extra is totally at employers say so. This is based on a team of 6 full time and another 3 part time
  18. will take some pics tommorow and see if i can figure out to upload here now. basically three bays we use, year 1 tip in fresh gathered leaf, usually from first leaf fall until all tidy - jan approx leave sitting in same heap until about oct following year w hen leaf starts to fall heap two is previous years leaf moved in oct ish when leaf starts to fall, heap three is leaf thats ready to use, turned from heap two into three to complete rotation as and when previous bays needed. and that makes not a lot of sense but i know what i mean...... its a cycle move once yearly, pics may explain better as we are currently filling heap one with fresh, i moved heap one into heap two couple weeks ago, same day i moved heap two into heap three
  19. Cannot beat 357 xp, and on slightly bigger sticks the 372 xpg only wish is the 357 had heated handles too. I truly reckon these are best pair of saws ever for lots of snedding and firewood duties, just cant be beaten for reliability and grunt
  20. Never done this particular chipper but did works old god knows what petrol one with same bolts heat is good, then once as hot as possible get it with freeze and release spray then good fitting bit, worked for me - and thats me cursed for next time!
  21. I would take a nice old lump of elm or oak to test - gets through those and its nice.
  22. i have one at work and to be honest i hate it, never seems settled into a cut, fussy to start, hates being used as a chipper saw, Wouldnt have one if you paid me. this is in comparison to 351, 357, 372, 135
  23. ah sorry meant room doors.
  24. thats a good point, Have a stovax where i live currently and it has 2 settings really - slumber and wide open so when sweep comes its nice and clean. kind of got in my head a big stove on tickover all day be fine, but actually may result in a tarred up flue.... hmm
