  1. Dont know how but i guess maybe lack of earnings currently is playing a large part, either way its getting worse and currently doesnt show signs of easing. Can honestly say if we are all in a position to chuck a couple tins or packets into local food bank as a donation each from this site alone the improvement be great each time we shop. Dont know how many members arbtalk has but for literally a couple more quid each thats a fair old pile food.
  2. Sadly i fear she will do lots, i imagine once winter flu comes in as normal and odd more covid pops up amongst it she will be going for lockdown again. she always seems to want to do it in every talk...can always go backwards again! soon there wont be anything worth saving in scotland because we will all be broke, unemployed and depending on meagre benifits from a broke goverment. We need to get moving more than ever in terms of economy. food bank use is climbing more than ever with some food banks simply running dry which means families left to wonder where next meal comes from.
  3. I really think we need to get off lock down like tommorow if not sooner, how many people loosing jobs, homes etc definetly a lot to be said for personal choice, if you dont want to get on a crowded train.....dont we need to work on social distance, because this is here to stay for sure so lets learn to live with it and not go bankrupt on the way. had a beer so this isnt my best reply for sure..... done some volunteer work during this, definetly been exposed to covid in process all be it through recommended ppe and so far touch wood ok! equally with no ppe and didnt know at time stood and chatted with somebody confirmed a week later with covid and all ok - nice 3 metres between us outdoors and didnt touch anything in area. now move to my work where some folks didnt social distance and moved among 4 households freely where one had a cold - week later all of them suffering with it.... i didnt get it! now imagine the cold was covid and results not so great but wee bit social distance on my part and all safe. obviously not failsafe but just as examples of why we need to open up country, be much smarter and learn to deal with it.
  4. not sure how it will do with split logs, we were tipping large sections of a stem, 3 and half foot long and easily 2 - 3 foot accross at butt so when stacked up high sides it was really frustrating.
  5. i borrowed one of these to move some timber and it had lot of good points and one bad. good was it sits low, tri axle so towed well, sides good to take on and off, tip mechanism seemed good with very tall twin rams. most hated but easy to overcome point was logs kept sticking in at taildoor, there are a lip either side when door off of about 3/4 an inch and big lumps were attracted to it like a magnet and then a bugger to move. bit of plate popped in to make it sledge past would solve. overall a fantastic trailer i thought.
  6. we use a valtra A93 hitech in woods for some work with trailer and crane. would be super manouverable if i bothered to take front loader off but always keep either pallet forks or bucket on, can get out of a wet spot or deal with odd boulder in way then. does slow a bit on hills loaded but if no hurry it definetly has serious grunt for size. ground clearance is good and we dont have it armoured at all so makes us think of route rather than bash in. got pics somewhere of it towing 14 ton dump trailer....digger driver was keen as off road only so he loaded to neck, boy that cleared cob webs out but it didnt fail.
  7. so looking at this from a different point maybe, is this to try and give protection from covid? if so i would most definetly not be betting on it as its aerosol droplets spread and contact patches, as that doesnt look air tight it wont guarantee protection. cant hurt to reduce a little but any symptoms at all from either party and its the whole 7 - 14 days isolation thing. serious wiping down of kit and vehicle daily be needed to keep on top of it too - google clinell wipes, in green packs. still not guaranteed but definitely reduces risk if its every single point touched every single day, so many many wipes. all this may be irrelevant if solo occupant of each vehicle of course. but good practice is to clean and clean again.
  8. well to update this, application to help between ambulance service and red cross approved today, just need some update training on vehicles and of course ppe and its get going. looks like role may be based elgin and shift patients between there and raigmore or Ari in aberdeen, but open to anything. so even in these times it moves slowly...anyone got tips for learning how to be patient.....whats that saying about a watched pot never boils eh!
  9. Just put on furlough until may 31 at least. Actively chasing up a possible opportunity to help between ambulance service and red cross ( volunteer for both already) to help do some work, get time off used as productively as possible as a volunteer
  10. work used to have one of the 3720 john deere and yeah that powermatch certainly was great. an amazing little tractor that punched well above its weight and in terms of loader work was better with a decent weightbox on rear.
  11. yep landed seriously lucky with them so i always go extra mile as landlord to ensure they are sorted.
  12. sort of, i inherited and rent out a house and it had a 2 week repair for a undiscovered leak in bathroom. so lots of dehumidifier and a heater when painter was in, extra electric cost and oil cost to tenent. they were asked to average out last years bills, provide proof of extra cost etc and get compensated, which to be honest sounds like a ton of time and head scratching so they declined. i went with plan b and asked them if a big pile of logs for next winter suited them better and call it quits whether in my favour or theirs and they agreed. so six cube was most i could get delivered pre april 5 end of tax year and make sure they came out well on top as they are amazing tenants
  13. just had 6 cube delivered by local firewood/tree firm and they were strict on rules pre agreeing delivery quite rightly so. tip and go, stay in house during delivery and bacs payment. perfectly acceptable.
  14. i bought recently a oak sign off internet, 21 letters if you count spaces - £240 delivered. think was just tiny bit shy of 2ft long, 500mm high and inch thick - really stunning engraved letters with i guess a 45 degree chamfer edge into each letter painted black and really well sealed over top. would i buy again if i needed one - yep no worries, one of the nicest signs i have ever seen. so theres definetly some money in signs
  15. drop a email to crathes castle head gardener James. not sure of actual address for crathes but there is a general gets to most folks one. depends on what you are looking for in terms of timber, hardwood or softwood? do you need now or autumn? would shorter lengths or random stuff work?
  16. well i can add a tiny item to the list of whats broke... been taking advantadge of this lock down and decided to do a decent job of steam clean under landy and underseal. good old landrover decided along with all rust and mud to shed weight it would add rear bumpstops to pile, wiped off by pressure wash. on positive side chassis below is solid so it will see first ever underseal in its 17 yrs of life to preserve that.
  17. Work sent all bar two of us home today as 9 greenhouses need watered, but will only be in theory 1 in at a time. in reality they spend so much time together its just a extra family member - not ideal. am fortunate can lock gates and do maintence on landy and not come in contact with another person, so pretty safe to do work outdoors and since first job is fire up steam cleaner and do landy its safe to say clean at 95 celcious. so apart from odd shop visit dont need to get within many metres of people for next 3 weeks. be safe all
  18. must admit premier inn beds are rather comfy. 3 damaged discs in back which affects me lots, often week off in pain or heavy painkiller use so well used to how bad it can be. premier inn beds do seem to provide rather a nice sleep, ok coupled with insomnia i am a bad sleeper so a beer then bed works well.
  19. for life of me i cant remember their names but we had a trainer and then assessor orginiased through lothian machinery ring, think its david spencer there you can ask. google Donald Mclean in invershin, i belive he does courses also and definetly travels.
  20. google your nearest Raynet group and make contact, ask them for advice as they are generally very very switched on into what works and what doesnt as well as sensible prices to buy at.
  21. i used an aldi/lidl special for many years. 25 litre tank was ok but if you wanted to run other stuff off it its boring for refill. went to a 50l from sealey and its better. work uses a 100l and its good. so space, use and budget really are what seperate them. belt drive larger ones are much quieter, so neighbours may also be issue compared to direct drive.
  22. not sure on those but have a wee look at the other husky battery ones long reach version and compare batteries. we use the long reach ones at work an awful lot now for the noise/fumes/tourists and the battery lasts a full working day. i know we have large battery and faster charger but not sure how essential that is with a full days use just charge at night. our guys love them.
  23. we also had problems on a A93 Valtra with bug, amount of much out of pre filter was unreal. ended up getting our fuel storage tank cleaned despite using additives every fill. dropped contents on main tank to completely empty. got a fill in earlier in year and amazing how much black muck in it so we aint clear of it yet.
  24. cheap and cheerful lightweight ones from mountain warehouse. do get a size bigger as can split between legs if too neat but i get a year out of a pair roughly and around £20, very light thin trousers.
  25. dear god in heaven who spends 4k on a TV, or crazy amounts on sky. We have freeview and what i think is decent sized 38 inch tv, yrs old and just fine. must admit its on all the time but come this time of year when stove is lit i spend as much time snoozing on sofa than actually paying attention to it.
