  1. could you pop up a link to that please, or do you mean the roller ones? really trying to get this every length and angle thing perfect for better cutting.
  2. Been looking at the clamp on file guides after ruling out the electric/12v ones due to cost. Looked on rob d's site tonight and cant decide so thought i would ask for some advice. Who has used the manual ones, what did you think, good and bad points please. Quite like either oregon or gransborg one. look forward to many peoples thoughts, reason for purchase is i have a lot of firewood to do and some is dirty so getting best sharpen every time would be nice.
  3. ooook that makes me hungry thinking about it! Congrats on new job silky
  4. killed two bosch drills before i went for makita kit
  5. cant speak highley enough about the makita kit. cordless li ion 3amp 18volt stuff is magic. get a set with both a drill and impact driver in in and you cant go wrong.

    Husky 550XP

been on cs35 course this week and one of the folks had one, most hated saw there due to not starting. i had a go through large stick and it felt horrid compared to 357, kept trying to alter its self mid cut so lost power.
  7. mileage could change it, and mine is running a uprated transfer box, basically discovery gears so not sure how that affects it. add my 2 inch lift, winch, roof bar with lights, jackable sills and big mud terrains and i hate to imagine difference between standard but its serious fun
  8. td5 will drop to nearer 20 when doing heavy towing depending on roads. just had mine chipped and on first tank i got a steady 26mpg driving like a teenager. have just filled up again and yet to work out what i got driving a bit more sensible. will post up in a day or so.
  9. A few years ago now where i work this was the tidy up after a lil winter storm. one night of wind and a long tidy up for me. using a kubota b2400 and 1.5 ton trailer i took in 75 loads to fire site. filled yard to brim. guys burnt lot in a day somehow. what isnt clear from photo is how big yard is, couple hundred tons top soil, dung heaps and so on all in there. was reversing in off road in the last 20 loads
  10. i would recommend the berghaus ones - just bought some off amazon for 39.99 delivered. its my second pair only cause after 4 years i have torn the first pair a lil so thought would treat myself. but hey at 40 quid i figure get a year out of them and thats still value for money. definetly get them on over saw boots/saw trousers no bother and very lightweight. I bought mine after a miserable week in dunblane a few yrs ago when it rained non stop for the entire time i was there on cs32 training course and vowed would never suffer like that again.
  11. be a nice one for somebody to try and knock him down on price on given thats quite a bit of handling and definetly some lumps destined for the bonfire. But if you were real close, got price down enough and had time/bored then hey why not - i would

    Makita saws

my first saw was a makita and it was great for its size - cant remember which one it was but seem to remember it was equal to a dolmar 100 or something like that. did years and needed very lil. so i would say good kit
  13. time for few mouse traps in shed then. teach them a lil lesson. was primer bulbs on mower the last two winters they did for me, pain in rear
  14. deepest sympathies to family
  15. if i remember right from my 30/31 its a max bar lenght of 15 inches
  16. take nice saw for sure, its less to think about then as should behave its self.
  17. yep the other half wants to get some for her dads xmas so this thread a good reminder. he does landscaping so will love them. The cut and climb jacket still going strong too - excellent for windy days also and done hrs and hrs of strimming in it. t shirt underneath it and then stick on sweatshirt when stopping. never a cold moment. so i see a few more pairs being ordered soon.
  18. how about a makita, my very first saw was a small makita and it did loads of roddy bashing, firewood etc for years. barely got any tlc and just kept going, not super quick or anything but did job. I moved onto a husky 350 and after 10 yrs of hard work i was feeling a lil rich so sold it on ebay and spent some on a 357. the 350 took tons and tons of abuse and apart from a clutch kept going. plenty cheap saws out there for that kind of work.
  19. generally log splitters arent dangerous if used properly. mine is horizontal, one handed or two people working together and either both of us or one can get hand/arm etc inbetween ram and knife no bother. How many injuries gained after many tons........ lots of splinters from not wearing gloves to stack the logs. none from splitter.
  20. hey if i was short of wood, had the time, was very local to me i would give 20 quid for the euc trunks. mix it into pile with oak, birch and some softwood and you have a happy log shed for elderly parent. I do agree though other two ads are a laugh.
  21. so this has caught my interest after a miserable time yesterday cutting really dirty wood for a mate as firewood. Can somebody who has one or rob help me with a few things please. how easy to set up do i need different kit to use on different saws, 357 and 372 apart from i guess stones do i still do angle by eye or is it fixed what kind of plug, cigarete lighter or battery clamps Cheers a maybe soon purchaser
  22. I would waxoil as in my maybe wrong thought proccess its the cleanest its ever going to be especially inside rails where mud loves to sit damp and rot it. Not sure on your area but here living under a mile from council roads depot you can imagine how much salt is on my daily drive bit of road and i reckon a lovely looking galv chassis shining bright is a theif magnet, a nice layer of black wax tones it down a lot. Hey i could well be an idiot and wasted a lot of cash over yrs but my 03 plate landy is lovely and clean underneath, no rust and no welding or advisorys and over 100,000 miles so far.
  23. 2 coffees and two slices toast with home made marmalade for breakfast. coffee and banana at morning break. 2 filled rolls with some kinda either sandwich filler or cold meat and coffee at lunch coffee and banana at afternoon break. lots of water mixed in. always have a full water bottle in tractor and refill whenever needed. do like to have good evening meal with meat or pasta. love steak/venison/bison
  24. work has not long gotten a ranger. twin cab thing with top on back. If i were just using it to go between a - b quick with no people or tools etc then it would be ok. Add a trailer even empty and its the most god awful gutless thing. No proper low ratio so reversing off road sucks and generally the driver seat is uncomfy after 20 miles max. rear seats for passengers are horrible. Oh and whichever idiot decided the screen wash tank should only hold 1.1 litres should be fired immediatly.
  25. that sounds like a fun job, worth some photos for here of the big fells
