  1. Mine once recorded 12,500 steps, impressive as I was sat in tractor all say ☺
  2. Same here when asked when I can do it I say lead in time of a fortnight, if it's an easy job and can fit it in quicker I will and if it's more involved and requires working round availability of labour/materials or weather I can do that too.
  3. Don't very often do post and rail in a garden, this was to replace some old flimsy post and rail that had deteriated and neighbour was worried would fall into his garden, owner was also worried that there was nothing to stop anyone dropping 12 ft onto the drive below with the old fence having collapsed.
  4. I blame the man who used to work for me, I used to take two rounds of sandwiches and a flask, man who used to work for me was like a hobbit, 2nd breakfast, elevenses, dinner and then afternoon break snack, I may have adopted the habit.
  5. I think you'd need that much marmite to cover the taste of that mouldy cheese
  6. As a change from sarnies I took a tin of mackerel in mustard sauce with some bread and butter today, other half does a good line in quiches, not the girly afternoon tea type, chorizo one is a favourite, although the all time winner was when we had some left over fry up stuff from the weekend so she made me one with bacon, sausage, black pudding and mushrooms made my arteries twitch just looking at it, but it was good
  7. The firm I subbed to up until last September went through 14 staff in the two years I was there, when I left I was the only one there from when I started, 7 sacked and 7 quit including 4 climbers so it's not just groundie who cause the problems
  8. Don't reckon it makes a deal of difference personally, more problems come from people who can't read a tree, ie they don't take the time to look round the tree and decide if want it in that direction that if the gobs there it will go there, if you fell with the natural lean of the tree or in the direction it is most heavily weighted it will go that way, just make sure the gob is of a proportional size for the tree and how you want it to land and of course not so small that it won't come down in the first place.
  9. Today was one of those days, went to finish digging out some shrubs I started yesterday, hoped to be finished by dinner realised it wasn't going to happen so made a run back to the yard to empty the trailer to get the rest of it, unloaded got back in the disco and turned the key and nothing, no ignition lights no nothing, found the connector on the wire from the battery to the main fuse box had snapped, quick poke round the workshop and couldn't find anything to fix it, so had to get the van out the workshop where it's been sat for a fortnight waiting for a diesel leak to be fixed, went to both local landy parts suppliers to be told is a main stealer part and £52 for an 8 inch piece of wire with connectors at each end! To top up off found out the fuel guage on the van sticks at quarter and ran out of diesel, had to get mother out on a rescue mission as she was closest to me. Anyway got back to the yard found some big ring terminals and with bit of adjustment made one fit the wire so back up and running now and back to the job tomorrow, 3rd time lucky!
  10. Wish I could get 30-40 an hour for tractor round here, 23-25 is average, back to op's original question harrowing and rolling are usually charged by the acre I charge £6.50 an acre for harrowing but with 16 ft harrows on 100hp tractor I can cover 40-50 acres in a day. But with quad I would suspect you would be better on a price rather than hourly or acreage.
  11. Yep I'm pretty sure it is too, can get to a fair size round here.
  12. This is a pic I took the other year of one at the yard, usually have one at home in the summer who will build her Web right across the drive under the carport.
  13. Stihl 028 AV Super Husky 357 xp Husky 372 xp Husky 395 xp Husky 3120 The only one of those I own is the 028 had it since new in 1986 is in bits again at the minute waiting for chain brake and exhaust but still runs sweet.
  14. Went to start my ms251 this morning and the pull start was turning but not engaging, turned out the e clip had disappeared off the end of the shaft allowing it to wear the little black bit that engages with pull start, found one in the tool box for a 029, same size but deeper and slightly longer peg, took about 20 mins with hacksaw, file and emery paper to adjust is to the right size, up and running again now ☺
  15. There's something rattling round the back of my head that says if you debark the first couple of inches before pushing them in it helps with rooting
  16. Does work, been a while since I've planted any like that so can't remember if you need to do anything specific to them first, pretty sure they will grow from a log left on wet ground same as willow will too.
  17. Not a bad day finally finished a run of very old rough hedge laying, just burning up to finish, only down side was while burning up this aft I got a thorn through my finger nail, could just see the butt of it in the hole in my nail took 20 mins fettling with a Stanley knife blade when I got home but got it out and saved a trip to A&E ruddy great hole in my finger nail now though.
  18. Younger part of this hedge was replanted by me about 12-15 years ago bottom end has probably not been touched for at least 70 years at a guess maybe longer.
  19. Get it at home people drive up to walk thier dogs across the fields across the road, had them park across the end of the drive before but favourite one is to park full on the road right on the T junction so you nearly run into them turning into the road, also means when I get home can't park outside my own house if thier full on the road like that as would block the road, mind best one was the cheeky two hat who not only parked across the drive bit then dropped his bag of dog poo in our front garden! Mrs saw him from the kitchen window and legged it out and threw it at his back window as they were driving off, apparently burst all over the window, that one's not been back since 😂
  20. This is true however when it went in to have the flywheel done the garage told me it had been done recently but had been dropped and damaged so shouldn't have been fitted, it was also the salesman's threatening behaviour when I rang him about it that got my back up, under the new legislation it is the dealers responsibility to repair, refund or replace, wife's asked CAB and as he made no attempt to rectify the situation we can take him to court and for the money we paid for the car and the repair, we are also entitled to the cost of an alternative car we buy to replace it and could sue him for stress caused and hi threatening behaviour, I'm quite happy to give him the car back and have my money back but he is ignoring all contact.
  21. Bought them year before last I think
  22. Got a pair of hair protector pros, comfiest boots I've ever had, unfortunately soles fell off them before we're a year old, had them resoled at the cobblers and been back 3 times as soles he put on wouldn't stay on!
  23. This is some poplar I've got on the yard very similar bark, simple way to tell mind would be to see if the bark peels of easy and is stringy underneath.
  24. I'll take a guess at poplar I've been splitting a lot myself and that fungus looks familiar
