  1. I think im more shocked that there not already 15 pages moaning his lack of ppe or lack of membership of an accreditation scheme or percieved lack of training as his chainsaw ticket isnt tattooed on his pate *puts wooden soon down* Sent from my E5823 using Arbtalk mobile app
  2. I would conclude you have the same pain in the backside phone I have that changes correctly spelled words to another random one completely unconnected to the one you typed or some complete gobbledegook. Sent from my E5823 using Arbtalk mobile app
  3. You have a womans feet my lord....etc (ref to blackadder 2 for younger readers) Sent from my E5823 using Arbtalk mobile app
  4. Their not to bad one you get used to its almost automatic with your hands and you can concentrate on what your digging, alot easier on newer machines much more content, the only digger ive owned before this one was a jcb 3c that was 5 years older than me and had so much play in the kingpost you had to stop 18inch from where you wanted to dig to allow for it :-D Sent from my E5823 using Arbtalk mobile app
  5. Geordie lasses arent any better, im working 7 days a week at minute due to being up to my eyes in it for the first time in a few years, but when see says "your working on my one day off" you know damn well that if you value certain body parts you best do some quick rearranging or else B-) Sent from my E5823 using Arbtalk mobile app
  6. Will you lot stop carping on, plenty more fish in the sea B-) Sent from my E5823 using Arbtalk mobile app
  7. Eldest step son did a degree in media studies, did well in it but no jobs to be had about starved himself to death trying to stay living in london on the off chance of a job offer, now living back in lincoln where he went to uni and working teo jobs to pay his rent and repay his student loans, has now admitted he should have taken the advice he was given at school and the apprenticeship he was offered with bombardier. 8. Just done my mini digger through Nfu, very comprehensive policy allows you to pick and choose what bits you do and don't want, also covers, the trailer for the digger and loss of earnings through breakdown and cost of hire to cover breakdown etc and actually came out at a pretty reasonable cost to, although they did use 8yrs ncd off an old car policy I had which may have helped.
  9. Not been on anything arb related yet but the little Volvo has been out earning its keep 👍digging out a new trackway and small shed base.
  10. Try and tie my quoting in on the way home on a night, trouble is looking at it and measuring up is the easy part actually finding time to sit down and work a price out is more difficult as I'm doing 7 days a week on my own at the minute.
  11. Don't worry mate jamiroqui is adding a defibrillator to his first aid box, he'll be able to revive you 😉😄
  12. Its not done til you've sharpened the teeth to the point where they start snapping off 😄 I usually keep ones like that in tool box for dirty timber etc
  13. 👍 very true there is an old saying "know alls, know nothing" least that's the polite version 😄
  14. Don't need to I've worked with them, in some cases even knowing you had to work with them that day made you question wether it was better to lose a days wage to save your own sanity 😄
  15. The main thing to watch is pinching the chain, with them being so lightweight it is very easy to bend them
  16. To my mind it would be common sense, but I have known more than one saw man that thought that a tree would go the way they wanted just because they put a gob there regardless of lean, wind etc
  17. This is another point to consider, you need experience and confidence, particularly on larger fells, what you have to watch for is cockeyness and complacency you need to look at every tree individually before felling, weight, natural lean, wind, obstructions, rot, damage, hung up branches etc, big trees still scare me but it is a rush when you get them on the deck safe.
  18. I've got the older Stihl and have also tried the new one prefer my old one out of those two, seems the Stihl is still built with the biggest engine which is why I went for it, as above they are hard on the arms and shoulders when used all day, the Stihl is perfectly capable of taking off limbs as big as the bar, not used the others to compare.
  19. True, wasn't me who told them, I know better from running lads myself in the past.
  20. I was getting 90 a day self employed grounds man providing my own ppe but using their saws, which caused constant moaning as I was on 5 pound a day more than his lead climber and about 30 a day more than his groundies on the books, but like I said to them I don't get holiday pay, sick pay etc and was usually there long after they had left doing saw maintenance etc
  21. Getting back to the original point of the post I'm currently beardless after much nagging and threat of divorce, but I suspect it will creep back come winter
  22. I'm north of the Watford gap, that's enough for most southerners 😄
  23. Depends which end of the midlands you are, some of us are quite happily northern 😜
  24. Hit the nail on the head there, I know two climbers out of all the ones I've worked with who can fell, the others have been mostly fine up a tree but can't work on the ground, I've aired my views re training on here before, I've been on the saws since I was 14 and for various reasons have never got my tickets, given the amount of 5 day heroes I've met, I'm glad I learnt the other way.
