  1. I've got an ongoing one at the minute, bought the wife a 55 reg vauxhall vectra at the end of November as she wanted something more substantial for going up north to visit her family, had it about a month and starts rough idling, got aa out and diagnosed it as the dual mass flywheel breaking down, rang the dealer got the sorry mate sold as seen, trade sale etc bull, clutch and flywheel was quoted £550 on an £800 car, so quick bit of research remembering something I'd read regarding the new consumer act bought in last October and I ring him back to tell him he can no longer sell it as sold as seen and is his liability to sort it out, in the mean time put it into the garage to have the flywheel done so we can use it, £550 later it comes out running same as it went in along with a while list of other faults they found while it was in, so it's now sat on yard and looks like we're taking the dealer to court to get the money back as he's ignoring all correspondence.
  2. You can set them straight away or you can set them and leave them on the safety for a few days so squirrels get used to running through them.
  3. Willow, burns fine when dry some willow is denser than others
  4. I'd go with laburnum for the first, second I'm not sure if it's oak then it has a very distinctive smell
  5. £70 think it works out at 1.2 cube, need to reboard it this year but can't complain with the amount of stuff it's moved
  6. Yep only caught my thumb once but that was enough, was an old mark 4 some one had given me and had filed the trigger down to make it more sensitive.
  7. Think the trailer cost me £200 about 4 years ago, is nicely balanced too so if it's tight access I can unhitch it and push it in fully loaded with logs, only downside is can't see it behind the discovery, have pulled it with cars and escort van before with no problems 👍
  8. If you Google fenn box or fenn tunnel there are lots of pictures of various designs, I prefer the all wooden versions myself.
  9. Don't think I have got a picture unless I've got one round the yard still, hole needs to be about 2 1/2 inch I think it is.
  10. Best way to catch squirrels is fenn mk4 traps in a plywood box, make the box just wide enough to fit the trap when set and just tall enough to hold the trap when sprung, about 16 or 18 inches long, use an aerosol can about wd40 size to draw round for the right size hole at each end and cut out, weather the traps before use to get rid of the smell of oil etc, don't bait just place at bottom of trees, on hedge lines etc, squirrels are naturally curious and go in anyway, my best catch was 180 out of a mature oak woodland in six months.
  11. Yep all the time, I can keep finding excuses usually lack of time for doing things and then eventually I go right I'm doing it today and it will turn out to take nowhere near the time I thought and then spend the rest of the day thinking why didn't I do it before, on the other hand when you have a day and get a load of those little put off jobs out of the way you feel loads better.
  12. Well I may have posted this before I can't remember, after nearly two years subbing full time as groundie to the same firm I walked in September things had come to a head, not least that with me leaving that made 14 employees come and gone while I'd been there, had to leave for my own sanity money worries or not, had plenty work for the first 6 weeks after I left and then went bit touch and go not helped by the weather as so many others have been, finally last month got to talk to someone sensible at the bank after two years of trying and have refinanced everything so no more overdraft and no more credit card just one smaller loan payment to find a month which has saved me a load of money and worry, could do with a steadier flow of enquiries now but is busier than its been for a long time.
  13. Yep his schleising was a bit overkill lol, the other lad who used to climb for me had a cs100 but he's gone to work in Canada now.
  14. Today's job two lleylandii to take down as were swamping the tiny garden they were in and blocking light to the house, no access through garden so all over the fence and down the footpath, steady couple hours dragging for me, all knocked down by my subby climber.
  15. Dry and blue skies, even saw a strange yellow orb in the sky, according to met office supposed to be staying for 5 or 6 days so hopefully ground might dry up enough for me to finish hedge flailing before the end of the season.
  16. 👍haha I get touchy due to the amount of farmer bashing on here
  17. Don't tar all us farmers with the same brush and by the way bonfire night is the best time for a good tidy up
  18. I've been chogging up some knotty old lleylandii recently and the long stringy shavings off that are ideal for lighting fire bung some in a bag and they will light straight off no need for paper etc.
  19. Due to the vaporising nature of petrol it doesn't take long to create a cloud of fumes above the and around where it has been poured which will ignite in the presence of a naked flame before you get near the fire itself which can cause a fireball and potential injury, similarly if poured from a container onto a lit fire the fire can jump up the vapour trail potentially igniting the stream of fuel back to the container with the added risk of explosion, basically it comes down to petrol being much more volatile and unpredictable than diesel.
  20. Don't use petrol it starts to vaporise as soon as you pour it out of the can and will ignite the vapour before you get near the fire with a naked flame. Either take some dry kindling or collect some on site to start the fire with start with small sticks and build up to larger ones lay them all in one direction to stop the fire nesting and if you need to use an accelerant on a wet day use old engine oil it's less volatile and burns longer, building the bonfire on a piece of corrugated tin helps too as it reflects heat back into the fire rather than it going down into the ground.
  21. Hasn't here but I'm in for the night now, fire lit, hot shower and dry clothes definitely improves the mood
  22. Blowing hard all day rain too but only got really heavy last hour or two at the yard whilst feeding round, fekin soaked and freezing again, be growing webbed feet and gills at this rate.
  23. This was Saturdays job storm damaged sycamore and chestnut to bring down, stick in the foreground had slight back lean towards the boundary fence so pulled her over with the discovery was a bit close who was going to win
  24. Same happened to me around the same time I was running 3 landrovers, 3 tractors and had 2 lads working for me then it all caught up to me plus being burgled when underinsured so I couldn't replace the kit meant it all went in a very short time, fingers crossed it looks like this year is finally improving.
  25. That's my delivery vehicle, I haven't got a picture of my axe at the minute though
