  1. is it a bit like the OOOh-AAAh bird? so called cus it lays square eggs?
  2. well if the book says so, they cant say its your fault when it goes bang!!
  3. your right, a shorter bar is a good idea, stick with the 404 tho, as youl also need the bar, chain and a sprocket conversion. which maybe more hassle than its worth?
  4. its a well known thing, that aliens are all around us.................. ...........iv worked for several of them, iv been expected to to such silly things that only an alien would expect, it must be the only explanation.........
  5. the kit list is allegedly optional, as its poss you can borrow other things from college. borrowed kit however could be rather manky! basicly go for ppe, boots, helmet, chainsaw gloves n troosers. best to have a word wiv the tutors and see what? but 200squids is naff!! i got 400 and could apply for another 400, so i did!!
  6. the windsor is the 63br, though just for a couple of slabs you could easily get away with a reguler chain and no mill?
  7. what the axemen dont tell you is the logs are dried pressed n squeezed to be uniform, which weakens them!
  8. 3958 000 0138 or 3958 003 0138 you might have to check thats correct with a dealer i believe the oregon eq is the 27R
  9. its a o.404" pitch. stihl have a rapid super as standard. the advanced one used as a ripper chain is the rcx, im just working out a part code, might take a while
  10. scoured the net, printed out a load of job application forms, filled out n posted them, along with my countryfile calender entries. had tea, watched last of summer wine and countryfile, now on here.
  11. i had this in another thread i started ages ago (rope marking) so i wont go into it here. but yes, a certification system is a good way forward.
  12. ok seriously, any 2stroke engine runs on 50.1 thats 100mls of oil to 5litres of petrol. older machines are generally made for 25.1, but can run on either. new 2mix and 4mix engines run on 50.1, but its reccommended to use a higher grade oil like stihl hp or ultra. or better still, get some pre-mixed aspen.
  13. erm...........the same 2stroke mix as normal?
  14. however as the rope has been cut, by whatever means and reason, it should be re-tested and re-labelled accordingly. ie - a 45m rope with a nick in it can be shortend to above the nick, but as it has been altered it needs labelling to say so. (its not 45m anymore, its now XXm) same with the splice ie a 45m rope cut from a roll needs a label to trace the rope-roll-supplier-manufacturer. anyone adding a splice needs to label the same to say. (serial no XXXXXXXX with a hand splice noXXXXX ) at the end of the day, the rope has been altered from its origional tested state. and yes one of my splices passed the isa kit check without a label!
  15. safer on vertical stem desents. mines great, and still possible to use with a pulley
  16. tis true, i did 3strand splicing at college too, with changes that in theory should mean any splicing taught is likely to be 16strand. as long as its done proper by someone with a track record?
  17. 20?????? blimey! i only got 5litres and a pair of braces last year! i know the show is a biggy, i was expectin somethin like that from looking on the maps. i realy need to do more felling comps, but they are just never advertised, shame cus its a good crack!
  18. im afraid that although it seems like a good idea, not attacking the leader during a mechanical is one of those unwritten gentlemens agreement type of rules. like the last day is effectivly neutralised till the champs elysse, no one attacks, and the race starts on first lap just for the sprinters. even tho its possible for shleck to do a runner, its just not the done thing
  19. no shot sherlick! but dont ask moo, my spolling is crip!!
  20. i may be wrong, but jo is now a twice isa-tcc world champ? along with a footlock record and a few poleclimbing bits? anyhoos well done!
  21. i twas gutted i couldnt make it, my car died on the way!
  22. chatting to my local stihl dealer (whilst colectin my new timbersports hoodie) apparently quite a few local firms are struggling, people bein laid off have joined forces but are still struggling cus they are all goin for the same work.
  23. If id pased my test first time id have the lot, missed out by about a week though! an old employer put me through the C1 then the +E part later. did it in the driving schools 7.5, then 7.5 wiv trailer, but license sais full artic status C cus i just ticked all the boxes on me provisional application form!
  24. either way it dont sound good. cheaper carvings like shrooms dont last too long anyway, but im not sure some1 would like a blue mark on it anyway?
  25. if its more than a basic crappy mess then soak it first, wash later. or even 3or4 washes. rope savers are good. my fave at the mo is the sirius multisaver. basic but cheap and effective. for a flipline cover try a bike inner tube?
