  1. ps I cant believe haw much steam this thead has produced, you all need to go back to arb school
  2. I think its a great shame you could not be botherd to contact your LPA in the first place forget TPOs - Conservation area what about Wildlife and Countryside Act 1981? - Hedgerow regulations 1997?, - Habitats and species Regs 2010 ? Had you just made the call in the first place all would be clear- dont worry on this accation you are not in the poo, that is if you are correct about the sp- Laurel and the 10mtr - 20mtr being the max- I think this time its your LPA flexing there muscles, just give him a call and chat about it , meet on site if need be, you wont get a fine, or if they push just appeal and it will be dropped. hope that helps.
  3. sounds like youv done good mate, good on ya are you a POME?

sorry to jump in, wev been doing it for a few years now, and the picks look good, in the uk its now in the new BS3998- 2010 so that helps, i used to try and sell it but now we just mix it in 50% within a job, that way we can also see , in time, how well the tree responds, in comparison with traditional pruning techniques , the LPA are cool with that too, peoples reactions are ok once you explain why you are doing it, on the whole the trees respond well. its good stuff.
  5. I think you will also find its a bit to do with the recession- once things pick up the BS5837 consultancy stuff will flood in, you wait and see- Lantra PTI would be a good idear also what about doing level 4 or 5 while its all in your head? that would get you Professional membership with the AA. With all that youd find work and good money around London.
  6. Im not having a dig, thats fine, its just my take on it and the way iv chosen to work over the years- yes i have lost a lot of work and potential money over the years but i do now have an excellent reputation for giving honest sound advice, only advising tree work when its necessary- taking the time to explain to clients in detail in simple terms how a tree will respond to the work, and the effects that pruning/wounding will have on the tree- I try to fully understand what the client is actually trying to achieve, youd be surprised at just how many people actually think that trees keep on growing and need to be pruned or topped to stop them from growing- few people actually consider what a trees ultimate tree height is or what its potential is, taking into account specific site conditions-soil type-PH levels- aspect- and what the requirments are of a tree to develop and grow. My client base is now extensive, i do very little advertising , i always get repeat work and word of mouth is the best way to pick up work. no digs at anyone but this is my life and its how i like to live i like to treat people in the same way as i would hope poeple would treat my mum and dad does that make sence?
  7. ok its late and iv had a drop so i hope you can read this, i dont care what you do and i dont mean that in a bad way , this is just how i see it, look at it this way- no one normally asks who pruned a tree if its done as it should be, ie BS3998 -2010 , a good job done well and its only good arbs who will notice that a tree has even had work done to it , joe public would not be able to tell, but if you re-prune a poor job joe public will notice that, so will your local LPA tree officer, then starts the pyramid, a friend of your client asks who did that? your name is put forward and is then passed down the pyramid until hundreds know what a s**t job you have done, forget what some arbtalk members are saying as some dont have any standards, we ,or those of you who call your self arbs ,should try to educate people. Ay Mark:thumbup:
  8. Forget the money, i would leave WELL alone, ask your self this, How well do you value your reputation ? and if you do it people will assume or presume its your own handy work, stay well away. you would do better to offer to take it down and replant.
  9. Ian Flatters, by doing it opens doors, is spot on, thats how you make your money:thumbup1: You need to have a depth and quality of knowledge and then apply it at every opportunity, the levels are there as a measurement of how much you can remember, I dont think the PTI is what i would call consultant level, but it is a start and it will open more doors. From having quantifiable knowledge is the only way to progress. Good luck with it Hama, i think you will find its an easy course
  10. Now youv got your brown wings:lol: just b4 you go to bed try taking 2 ZMA capsules, theyv got 7 mg vitamin B6,300 mg Magnesium, and 20 mg Zinc youl soon then be hard splitting 200 rings:thumbup:
  11. hope that comes out
  12. A reble farmer? have you by any chance been to univerity? injurys, bovines, hedges, bursting, punishing, dumb animals, retribution, human punishing, and a sister, and barbed wire ,what sort of farmer are you? you need to watch what you say on here you know , you could offend someone with words like that:lol:
  13. or you could just say Sal e no mo barak, which means happy new year:thumbup:
  14. or you could say you tried to stop the old tenant from cutting it down but they did not understand you and ignored you!!!!
  15. try and look at it this way, yes youv done the bad thing, Red robins are fast growing, inexspencive to buy, you could get a large shrub for not alot of money, i know what im about to say is wrong and hoppfully it wont be removed!! tell her you thought it had died and to save her the trouble you removed it but you loved it so much your self that you have already bought another shrub to replace it, be very apoligetic and thats all you can do, or make out your an Afghan.
  16. Red Robin or Photinia sp the leaves look a bit old
  17. this threads worth keeping going, which is more viable and or sustainable? it depends upon our appetite, a combination of the 2 plus frackin, plus nuclear, plus the sun and the earth, soil that is, and tidal, energy, the needs of our country are great and growing all the time. i wish we were back in time, with out all the mod cons of today, sat in front of a stove watching the flames.
  18. sorry should have said ,let the wind blow through 6 mths after splitting, its worth the wait
  19. yep one of the best woods on an open fire or stove, you need to give it atleast 2 years to dry in the uk and then let the wind blow through it for 6 mths, only down side forget the axe, use a saw and cut into bricks or pto splitter.
  20. mining for coal is not sustainable in the long term frackink is , controversial yes, big time, who knows what will happen, subsidence issues? i think so. the need for fuel is massive in the UK and will only increase.
  21. just to add a bit more, i work very hard for my money and as a resullt i end up wearing my work clothes all the time, and i shop in oxfam for those special occasions, wife loves going out with me, so as a result i normally find that beggers look away from me and dont ask, and if you dont ask you dont get, get a job.
  22. crist you were polite, i would not of used so many words, unless he had an id card, or i knew him, or he was a relative, or he was a she , who was very pretty or pretty or just ok:thumbup:
  23. yes me think so too:lol:
