On a sensible note its all about Auxins, sp, age of tree and type of tree work to be done, would you cut of your grannys head when you know shes going to die in a year or two?

Come on lads i cant believe for one minute any one on this site would recomend a crown reduction !! on a Hawthorn, i maybe a newbe but come on.

Hi mate the trees ruined from the over exsessive crown raise but if you want my advice cut to ground level as it will have cryptostroma corticale anyway and when you show the TO the staining in the grain he will probably leave you alon in the future.

you may think you need to prune it, put up with it for another 5 years , enjoy it for what it is now and when you really feel you need to prune it ,,,,, fell it. and plant another sp of tree that you can leave alone.

This looks like it would not come under 5837 and is more likely to be highways and they have there own set of rules, but when it comes to trees they dont care, they never really bother with NJUG10
