  1. Hi Steve on a diff note how have i done this week, ok or not ok? im slowly geting my head around things. what do you think, keep it simple.
  2. Can i join? i got a new one a few mths ago, with all the extras i paid about£26,000 i wont bother you with the minor probs, air con leaks water on the inside of the cab and lots of other small pobs but its done well , its only on its second tran box already and needs a gear box, its a heavey duty Hi cap with under 6000 on the clock strainge thing is i love it, we ran a mog b4 and inbetween going to the dealer we are in and out of jobs and more mobile, we have been abusing it , load it to the max when ever we can but it loves it.
  3. Im with you on this Ben,SPOT ON, Burearacy is necessary if you want a large group of people to abide by a given set of rules, if you do not want or need this, bureaucracy is unnecessary. Those who make the rules should most defo abide by them.
  4. I think Maripilus but could also be Grifola ? picks not that clear but given the target area and age and size of tree take it down.
  5. My personal feelings on this are that apart from educational research which is always usefull to know, how, why and what could happen if, or generally in the pursuit of knowledge, that we should not try to alter the course of naturally occuring ecology. In an ideal world it would be nice not to have to plant single sp woods and only plant native sp to suit the soil and site. Basidiomycetous, ascomycetons and mycrrhizal development all have there place within our woods and play an important role, I think Schwarze calls it Haptomorphosis. The only time we do need to excersize our knowledge is within the urban environment where a proactive approach, IMO, should always be taken. At the same time those who survey trees must be able to distinguish between hazardous and less hazardous forms of decay. good eg being Inonotus hispidus on L.Plane or on Ash on Ash its more of a problem. The dilemma for the surveyer is the growing culture in this country for insurance claims. The surveyer must have no doubts in making recommendations regarding less hazardous defects assotiated with wood decays. Widespread media coverage of freak accidents/acts of god are largely responsible for this growing Frenzy
  6. The Cedrus deodaras looked to be in fair condition but soundings with a mallet indecated extensive decay around the base of the trees, Resistor Graph was used and proved decay was exstensive on two of the three trees. I submitted my report and findings but as the trees were TPOd and local objections were made a second report was commissioned by the LPA. Forrest Research produced the second report and in it agreed with my findings and recommendations, it still went to an apeal with the LPA I had my 3 mins in front of every one and his dog and a few days later section felled the trees. On futher investigationsto the root ball of two of the trees you could just pull the stumps and roots apart like a biscuite. the trees were well past there sell by date and do still produce fruitng bodies. It was my sighting of the fruiting bodies Sparassis crispa at the base of the trees which led to my further investigations, (Brown cubical rot) when cut into also smells like Turps and the fruit is yummy
  7. All too cheep, as much as possible without having to wear a hud.

  11. Hi, you should also be very detailed in your specifications ie dont just spec fell or section fell, specify what you will do with the stump , grind to a deapth of 200mm below ground level and back fill mulch and also how the arizings should be disposed of , chipped and removed from site and disposed of at a registerd disposil center, via a licenced huler. ect ect be specific and detailed. that will get you extra points. even spec armilotox and how it should be used, dont be afraid of been extravigant with your anserers, they love detail.

  18. OK, take a deap breath count to 100, the womans on her own by the sounds of it , dont take a hostile aproach , finnish the job these are quete times, just arange to discuss it with her partner when he gets back, its difficult to fully understand a clients sucumstances, but he could be in the forces or what ever, anyway a relaxed calm aproch will do you much better. my advice for the future always provide a detailed spec of what you will do and what you wont. during these times this last year i have spent most of my time networking, bonding, going out of my way to devellop the good will of my company and yes some times doing work in sertain situations for free to streanthen the reputation of my company, as a result, i often dont even have to qote and through this resesion i havent dropped my prices. a good faver and politness goes a verry long way.
