Thats because in the south west its mostly clay soil, Sweet Chestnut likes Acid loamy soils but there are pockets here and there, on the Blackdowns there are one or two covers, i'v been able to grow a few hundred but they have been very very slow to take on clay, there are some fantastico vets at Nynhead court near Wellington. well worth a visit.
  6. Also going by the stem diam of those trees and the wast of those drivers ie 36" those trees are not so big, i have seen bigger moved.

  10. I'v had a few, i like the smell of them first thing in a morning, far better than the lads and they don't trump:thumbup: i also think clients like them more than men, makes them feel safe.

  16. No, they would best be used cut dryed, and when you have a late night party, drink and all, throw one from time to time on to the fire, the fire fairys will be great , they will fly high up into the night sky. I love christmas trees, if you can't sell em in the winter burn them in the summer.

Good quality jobs so far, the winds were a big help this year, turnover will be down but proffit will be up(less running around) This year i'v upped my prices by 20% on last year- as a result i'v lost most of the rubbish work but gained far more quality work which has been better paid , mostly from clients who have appreciated a detailed specification within the quotation- on the whole my terms have been met and most pay upon completion, i now also quote via the internet with out even seeing the job, google earth ext its great, its working ok but i do have a lot of years exsperrence which helps and know my areas well. A lot of work comes from second home owners from the internet using photographs and description.
  22. Its all to do with motile zoospores from Phytophthora, they can swim in water, this can spread along roads when wet and so spread the disease, felling of road side trees will slow the spread, its just one form of control.
