  1. In Canada, I've used a rod that just stands in the flue. It's pushed upwards to open a trap door on the very top of the pot and the bottom of this rod then just 'stands' on a wee shelf built out from the brickwork at the side of the fireplace. I was told it keeps a lot of snow from accumulating in the hearth.
  2. And I hear he's starting to take in laundry. I'm parcelling up my smalls as I speak!
  3. If you're looking for a way to close the flue when there's no fire lit, then consider one of those flue balloons - an inflatable 'bladder' that expands to the dimensions of the flue. Google it.
  4. Seems like a good outcome, Ash. Make sure you tell other people what you think of Blackwood Chainsaws - they can't buy that kind of honest advertising. And what you think of Arbtalk. Maybe you'll stick around for a while.
  5. Well done that boy! What grade is he on? Two?
  6. Oooooh! I thought you could get ointment for that, eh?
  7. What's the weight of the Log Jack, Yvonne?
  8. Even cheaper before the war - two an' ha'penny!
  9. The dealers to your right will sell it as 'Tree Motion replacement bridge' - or something like that. Go to harnesses, then spare parts / replacement parts.
  10. Come on, Tight Arse! Get a new bridge! On a more serious note, though. Would you be asking 'what we thought' if you weren't already doubtful?
  11. Congrtaulations - and long may that wee heart continue to beat. Dee
  12. On the same point of 'mark up' prices, I saw the 'Guide to Good Climbing Practice' being bid for and finally being bought for £32 plus postage! The same booklet can be bought new from the AA for a tenner!
  13. That's more of a difference than I would've guessed. Impressive.
  14. Just out of interest, Dean - how much of a difference (in time) do you reckon you'll get from these 'pushed' plants?
  15. Steve might get something sorted out, fingers cro ....... there we go again!
  16. I know what you mean. I've got it when reading a chart by headtorch on the deck of a sea kayak.
  17. You bought BOTH of them, right? - not just one of the pair?
  18. I agree. The question assumes the standard of the options is equal. Whilst the first option is limited in its scope and real-life scenario, the second can vary enormously in quality.
  19. I'd guess it's iroko. It looks like the gunwhale and deck panels of a canoe that I have.
  20. Maybe Mike just wants us to picture the scene in our imaginations - like on the radio.
  21. Gloves?! These modern wonders - eh?
  22. These creatures will not necessarily be what is right - only what is left. 100 years is too short a time in which to expect adaptive evolution to come up with a solution to a human-propelled change that over-takes the humans themselves.
  23. He He He He He He He He ...................He He
  24. If you could find the corresponding Ordinance Survey maps of the area, you could then date back to the hedge's appearance (or the boundary at least) on the earliest version. Limited I know - but another angle.
  25. It should probably read 'sex act WITH a horse'. A sex act ON a horse would be quite an achievement - although the too riders would have to be properly protected ... of course.....
