  1. YOU CAN CUT THAT OUT - RIGHT NOW!
  2. "We aim to please, sir." Good luck.
  3. OK, Hama. Let's see if this works! Create a seperate slide for your title. On the next slide, type ALL of your bullet points. Choose the first bullet point, that you want to appear, by HIGHLIGHTING it. Go to 'animation' and 'slide transition'. Choose an 'entrance'. (The type of transition that you want). Once completed, you should have the first bullet point where you want it. Then HIGHLIGHT point two, and repeat. If this doesn't work it will probably just be a small difference in Power-Point editions. So fiddle about with it - or get back to me. Dee
  4. They're not Presbyterian then .... eh?

    Apple wood

Thanks for the advice, Nepia. I'll follow up your suggestion. But as for the Wet West, I'm in Ireland. A bit more wet and a bit more west, unfortuntately!

    Apple wood

Thanks for those, Ian and Dela. I hadn't even considered those ideas!
  7. A good discussion point, Hama. Is this connected to your recently-started studies? For my own two-pennies worth, I fear that the majority will have the day here. The public, who may not know all that is neccesary, will always err on the side of caution (or litigation) - a felled tree won't take you to court. Yes, a way forward may be education and a more realistic way of evaluating 'risk', ie. the danger of driving to the woods compared to then walking in the woods, but we come back to the question - How will this be done, and who will orchestrate it? I think that if this thread doesn't do anything else, it will at least allow Arbtalk members to display the varied views, on the value of trees, that they will have witnessed from the public over the years. Good luck, Dee.

    Apple wood

Does anyone know if there is much of a market in apple wood? I know that small bags of applewood chips are sold for BBQ-ing, but apart from that - 'I know nothing!' Thanks, Dee.
  9. Not about to give up what, Hama?
  10. For a minute there, I thought that they were playing it backwards! But it does have an hypnotic effect on the unwary listener, granted. Good post!
  11. They are probably some of the many that I don't know!
  12. What was the rope for? Or is it just some electrical line that came down with the tree?
  13. I wish! I can identify at about the same speed as fungal growth!
  14. That was SO easy! It has only taken me 20 minutes to sort out the ID. (Now for number 2, then number 3 ... and .... then....... Great idea - great fun! Thanks.
  15. I don't use the art friction saver, but can it not be lowered with a throw line folowing the climbing line through, and then lowering the friction saver on the throwine?
  16. I've not even heard of this hitch, so I'm as curious as you!
  17. A mass of 1kg (sitting on the ground) exerts a force of (nearly) 10 Newtons due to the force of gravity. So when reading a pulley's rating as 22 kN - you could 'imagine' an approximate rating as 2.2 tonnes. Does this help at all, Hama?
  18. Give that goldfish back!
  19. The goldfish in the bag! I want the the goldfish!
  20. An object will fall 4.9m in the first second - assuming air resistance is negligible and initial velocity is zero. Is this the answer to the quiz?
  21. This is wrong - sorry! The answer should be 7448 N or 7.448 kN
  22. A 12 stone man (76kg) falling for 1 second and stopping immediatetly (which wouldn't quite happen) will exert a force of nearly 745 Newtons on the rope. F = m X a Force = mass X acceleration due to gravity Force = 76 X 9.8 m per seconds (squared) = 744.8 Newtons I hope this helps. Dee
  23. Ah yes - I see what you mean, Peter. Thanks.
  24. If the Revolver were clipped straight to the Petzl OK, that would allow the blue line and dyneema sling to be left out. Would this still satisfy the purpose? It might not allow changeovers will suspended though.
