  1. I think the problem with species being introduced into an established ecosystem is that we just don't know what the outcome will be. If it proves to be a mistake - it's too late. Even with the best of intentions and the most accurate scientific forecasts, we are still making a 'guess'. The cane toad's and european fox's introduction into Australia comes to mind.
  2. Thanks for getting back to me on that, Spud.

    I'll keep in touch.

    Dee

  3. Hi, sorry for the cold call, but I thought I'd find out if you sell 200t parts. I'm looking round for a muffler and thought I'd start by asking you.

    Thanks, Dee.

  4. Keeping it simple! Lovely photos.
  5. I remember the Dancer - it was out at the same time as the Mirage! The Dancer was a little shorter.
  6. If the club is linked to the SCA (or the like), they probably will be happy for you to try out their own boats so that you can form your own opinion of the sport and which boat suits best (especially which seat pan suits best).
  7. I would advise against going on the sea alone - considering your current experience.
  8. Sorry Stevie. None for sale at the moment. I paddle on the west coast (of Ireland). We have fleet of about a dozen but the postage from me to you would destroy any 'bargain' that could come along when we're due to retire or upgrade any boats. What's caught your interest in sea kayaks?
  9. Yes, that's the type of thing I'm talking about. You can get a version with a rope lock on it too. It's at least food for thought as you may have different requirements.
  10. You haven't given any SWL requirements or price limits. You could start off by looking at Young's chandlers (Lewmar 72mm Synchro Fiddle Block) Dee
  11. About 100% of my house does - but maybe that's not much help .... is it? .... no? ...... no
  12. No - I don't think all members of the public are fools when it comes to using a chainsaw. I also don't think that all professional chainsaw users are beyond reproach either. I think that after the skills have been learned and practised - you still have to choose when and how to use them. It is at THIS point that the true professionals come to the fore. Judgement.
  13. Looking forward to it.
  14. Sorry, I thought my previous thread might have been interpreted that way. Well done, Greg.
  15. What did it have a 'softish landing' on?
  16. Oh I see. I was just going to sing him the first few bars of the song!
  17. Without wanting to know about your experience in tree work, I would suggest you recall what you've worked with in the past and in the local area. Assess if these set-ups were good or bad - and then plan a gradual build up of your own rigging gear as you find that each piece is worth having. Dee
  18. My Imori rope arrived today from Fletcher Stewart. A big thanks to the sponsor ARBJOBS who kindly donated the prize. And thanks to Steve and his countless staff who organised it all.
  19. It's an exercising question, Oddbird. I agree with the above - and I also think that some of the rules that are laid down for us to follow are not assembled by people who actually do the job.
  20. There you go, Mick.

I've eventually got Tanner on Arbdogs. Of course I've now had to change my avatar so that I don't seem repetitive! And in doing so - I being SO predictable! Ah well.

  21. My dog 'Tanner'.
  22. As the above comments say - you have to be happy with it. Another thing you could fiddle with would be to turn your distel round on the rope - so that the tails of the hitch are on the outside and away from the krab. Dee

    Grillon

Hi Dave, I use a Petzl oval in the other end of the Grillon rope. The plastic cap over the sewn eye should 'give' enough to allow a normal sized krab to be forced through it. Dee
  24. What about using, instead of a timber-hitch, some belay device (fig 8) that secures your SRT line at the anchor point until a ground belay is required. When needed, the safety lock-off is untied, and the climber is lowered on the 'descender' device.
  25. Thank God for that, Roni! I was starting to develop a 'small rope' complex!
