  1. I was thinking along the same lines. I've found that the staff that are working at the shop till aren't working elsewhere for a very good reason.

I share your obvious concern but remember - we did the same to Europe's forests in the name of farming and naval fleets to rule the waves. There are many in Europe who, having progressed into the 'first world', now feel in a position to lecture developing countries on how to care for the environment.
  3. Is it on a snooker table?
  4. Ben, Drew will be SO disappointed in you. Oh, the shame!
  5. I'm inclined to agree. A spliced loop is as permanent as two eyes spliced onto the Pinto. The knots (on the prussic or on the Pinto) allow the gear to be disassembled - I think that was quoted as one of the issues. The one difference I see between the spliced loop and directly-spliced eyes would be when the prussic isn't loading equally on each eye - a loop would allow the pulley to find the 'bottom' and equalise the load on both sides.
  6. I agree. Speedy up - speedy down!
  7. 'Total Tree' ?
  8. I've used the Petzl one with my daughters. This harness has a high attachment point which prevents inversion but you have to be careful how you attach to it - you don't want to knock them on the face with a krab.
  9. On the Petzl ascender, I clip a krab through the two holes at the top - thus keeping the rope within the cam housing. This doesn't prevent a twig from causing malfunction, but it keeps the rope where it should be.
  10. Treetools Blog | tree climbing information worth sharing with your mates Maybe try this one? (By 'specifically' I'm assuming you mean a set-up that doesn't use a chest harness?)
  11. vtio.org.au Try the SRT section on this site. Then go to the downloads list.
  12. Well not 'everything'. You passed, didn't you? Well done!
  13. Settle down, Paul, and less of the drama queen! Did you attend all of the training? When there, did you pay attention? Were you given feedback by your trainer? Was this feedback positive? Do you remember how you felt after being given feedback? That's how it'll go tomorrow, as long as you pay attention and take your time. Now stop wasting energy - get a night's sleep - you've got a big day tomorrow.
  14. Loops or reels, Justin?
  15. What happened then? A happy outcome?
  16. Craig, as much as I agree with you that the Pinto Rig shows promise, I would have to take account of its durabilty and longevity when forming an over-all opinion. At the moment, I feel that they haven't yet got into the 'great piece of kit' category. In saying this, the two that I have are working well and I admit that I have limited experience of them - but in this type of work, a piece of equipment can't just look nice. I feel that your information helps us all to form a balanced view.
  17. Wow - I would never have guessed! Your link at least allows me to see it in detail but there certainly wasn't a 'oh yes - I thought it was that' moment.

My guesses ranged from something that Hubble photographed to a blue net curtain hanging from the ceiling with one of those wee LED nets behind it!

It is, indeed, beautiful in its abstraction.

    Thanks, Janey.

  18. Janey, sorry for the 'cold call' but your avatar - what's that all about? I think I've got it figured out but then - oh that's not it. Eh?

    Dee

  19. Nice one, thanks.
  20. Dean, along with the 'habitat pole', did you leave much of a log pile or arisings in the garden? What did the customer think of this? It looks like he has a nice enough garden.
  21. Dozens of wee slots for CD storage!
  22. Keep de-odourant and Ralgex sprays on different shelves!
  23. Does it have to be a working harness, or can you/she consider a rockclimbing harness? Failing that, I'm sure some of the female climbers will be along to give you advice straight from the horse's mouth ....... maybe I should've phrased that differently!
  24. I believe those boys use magic pixie dust .... or something like that.
