  1. in two weeks, been called out to 3 emergency jobs all large beech failures.
  2. if your winching whole tree then youll still need either a processor or harvestor to sned out and cut to length at rideside loading with a telehandler isnt the best, i was concerned that your going into a major job it seems from your initial post with just groundie work experience? i hope we're wrong? all the best with the job if ive got it wrong joy
  3. martin , we have some v.straight spruce poles, but are all cut at 12' , from 2" diametre up to 15", lots to choose from still about 120t at the yard - if thats any good we are located just off A50 Uttoxeter, Staffs - let me know if any good joy
  4. steep slope extraction any thing from £16 to £26 a tonne just to skyline the timber down to the forwarding area, hand cutters will want about £120 a day and will cut about 15-20t depending on going and size of timbers, a harvestor or bed processor to sit at the bottom of the skyline to cut timber to size and brash up about £250+ a day, a forwarder to move it to stacking point about £200+ a day timber value - sitka and pines did you say about zero or into negative values after all that , unless youve got a grant or loads of clearfell to warrant the costs 10 acres isnt alot for costs of setup etc just my opinion joy
  5. ours is for hire, with operator, brash rake and 8 tonne digger with talan grab, if any help, used in pics recently for scrub/brash burning and stump removal for a large area, over 4 acres cleared in a few days - any help? joy
  6. lucas mill on ebay, finishing i think this weekend, we would have snapped it up, but other things have cropped up - looks decent bit of kit - sorry dont know how to post the link
  7. good point fungus, its the female whose fruit when rotting, leaves an odour of rotting dog t..d to add to the ambience of a front garden
  8. arrgghh - a rant coming on here - popped in to my eldests school sports day - it was lasting all DAY - once race at a time, my eldest was only in one race at the beginning of the day and asked me to drop off first thing to see him - 2 hours later still not ran. teacher comes over to me, i ask "when i was at school, sports day lasted at best an afternoon with track and field multi events going on all the time, children moving from one activity to another and taking part in all activities" - teacher" health and safety i cannot watch all the children at once, and i am the only one trained in PE out of the school" yet again H&S being blamed - i said if a risk assessment had been carried out and any risk mitigated by risk assessment it should be ok, oh no , a teacher got sued she said recently - so we;re not risking it. so all the teachers were sun bathing all blooming day - apart from the pe teacher - and they want more pension - arrraggghhh
  9. if the hedge isnt trimmed or the field grazed its amazing how quickly blackthorn spruts up at the field margins and soon encroaches into the field , if left it goes rampant, but good habitat, we have a field near us thats been allowed to "do its own thing" and its a forest of thick blackthorn - impenetrable, a good hide for local muntjack and allsorts of wild beasties joy but a real bugger when it goes through the tyre of your tractor, as they are that long and that strong - puncture city
  10. is 50 tonnes mass production? or are you getting bigger, as 50 tonnes will only give you about 60 m3 nets, 75 at best, i will take from you if the price is right?, what will you charge for a artic of 26 drying nets collected from your yard please, thanks joy - cut at either 8 or 10" thats pretty standard sizes
  11. what stupid posts, if we had still got our small processor, and were local to you we would come and do it for you, but, i can see what people sort of mean, they would prefer to operate it themselves, but this can be factored in hope you sort your self out with someone all the best joy
  12. am i being a bit thick here - or am i looking at a filled in cattle grid? what is it, cant believe thats a listed monument joy
  13. walk away you might not get the money - the customer will think its worth hundreds and its not, its only worth what someones prepared to pay for it, as they have to come and collect it, will cost someones time more than the value of timber, have had those sort of customers before who think there wood is worth thousands and its only been a poplar:sneaky2:
  14. I just heard this , a cop, leaves two police dogs in a car on the hottest day of the year, are they for real! how can someone do this , its disgusting to think a copper has done this v. sad , I know how our german shepherd is feeling about the heat at the moment, but shes never in the car, always loose around the yard and loves jumping down in the goose pond to cool down
  15. was still their this morning, so unless said neighbour winched it over with the landrover this afternoon im guessing its still in situ:001_tt2: any how, dont know whats happening as owner now back peddling over if can spend on said tree:sneaky2: will be putting in a bill for application and sawing up of failed limb. - thats if the limb is still there in the morning and hasnt sneakily moved across the road to the logstore there
  16. with the heated handles charlie:001_tt2:
  17. horrid site, i get it to £20,400 then , about 20ish
  18. 4 x £120 and chipper £80= 560 x 30 days =16,800 thats forestry rates:thumbdown:, probably too cheap for arb.men
  19. I have put in planning for the lads to work on a very mature copper beech, we understood from initial telephone calls with council and owner it had a tpo on it, i submitted the necessary forms and the homeowner, not us as agents received an email today saying ; lifted from home owners email " Further to the submission of the above application I would advise you that it has been deleted from our system. Consent is not required for the works to the tree as it is not covered by a Tree Preservation Order and is not within a Conservation Area." UNQUOTE What does deleted from our system mean?, it had a tpo and theyve decided to take it off? I've never come across this before, the lads are still out, so i thought i'd ask the question to see what you guys think and why we as agents havent heard a dickie bird from council? obviously i will give them a ring tomorrow for my self , but anyone come across this before? oh and its on an english heritage listed monument area, if this has any bearing as well joy
  20. same here tommer, even though all ours is measured in the 1m3 sacks, we usually throw a few on by hand for good measure , rightly or wrongly so theres no disputes that they havent had the measure. joy
  21. had sunday and today off, we went to the uttoxeter races sunday, friend of ours lent us her box to watch the races in the cool, fab, poor horses that did the summer national race at i think it was 4.20pm one collapsed after running 3.5 miles the vets and owner were franticly throwing cold water on it, it did eventually come round after a heart stopping 5 minutes, today, monday rohans decided to do maintenance and not start felling the larch today i think the lads will be decidedly more happier in the cool workshop than in the woods with full kit on drink plenty guys , you can dehydrate v. easy in these temps. keep cool guys joy
