  1. too many sellers, too mild a winter, grants for processors swamping the market, farmers sons doing it who dont need to turn a profit, fuel prices increasing, insurance costs increasing, timber prices going up and the customer with less money in their pocket to spend, terrible year! weve found our wholesale is better as people buying the 4 nets for a £10 when needed to the garages has tied us through the winter better than selling the bulk loads when the customer has to dish out over £100
  2. wish the fergie t20 derv, we are doing up was ready for the auction, but i think the paint will still be wet jon! its got a fab number plate for it TPW 20 the lads have gone for a full restoration, so hopefully will be on ebay or other sites soon as! - joy
  3. looks good kim, what sort of size is the timber, it looks really impressive, will it be worked into a wall or something? we need a signage of sort for our woodyard, do you ever travel to sites to do your work? if so what sort of price would you charge for cutting us a sign - we were thinking something carved into one of the large stumps at our entrance? cheers joy
  4. if a cow can get its head through something it always thinks its body will follow, so stock wont be kept in there for long i think! brill bench, coach screws or coach bolts? good and will last
  5. its not too bad, it will stand the kids jumping on it:thumbup1: nice pipping on the top
  6. rohan and tony milling lots this week, with the slabber and saw blade, Brian put together an oak table from oak we milled from apf two years ago.
  7. yes will post some pics tomorrow night, by the time we thought to get some pics the light had already started to drop! so will have camera at the ready thanks joy
  8. been milling with our lucas this week, and we have some lovely slabs for sale if anyone is interested, yew, flamed ash, spalted beech, cedar, sizes from 4ft to 6ft long and from 2ft-3.5ft wide.all 2" depth can put up some pics tomorrow pm me if interested thanks joy
  9. poor old micks got enough on his plate - some b** stealing his timber! Rohan and mick were thinking of a stake out with a 12 bore , a few vicious dogs and a deep pit!
  10. We have some cedar of lebanon which we are about to mill , we could mill to weather board specs if required 8" widths about 6ft+ lengths - any good?
  11. lester burns his to keep the barns warm, where he stores the cattle cake is his mega large waste burner - but thanks for hte heads up - know all the lads at lesters.
  12. tip site for log and chip - foc, at our yard just off A50 at Uttoxeter, Staffordshire
  13. weve mended a few broken ones with our milled timber, but i think for £3.50 a pallet we will make them out of some conifer large trunks we kept, that we were going to mill as rough rails for the field. (great minds think alike!)
  14. what, do you deliver 100+?? or we collect that many?? how much, and i can pass onto hte lads if they are interested thanks joy
  15. will probably have to if we cant get any freebies, we always ask for pallets exchanged by the customers , they usually send the broken ones back! and we try and keep costs down to the customers - but they will have to pay for pallets now! if you can pass on his number thanks joy
  16. it took about 3 months before i felt safe enough to use it in a glove, took another 7 months til all the nerves feel normalish, can now use it like a thumb although it looks a bit strnage, you dont know how much you use your hand fingers thumbs til youve had a problem and then you know! mine was severed right off and held on with a bit of skin and crush injuries to all the thumb broken in loads of places and nail bed surgery to save the nail - but ive still got a thumb:thumbup1:
  17. yes , we go round our local trade counters etc, and have collected loads already, but when youve got 30+ pallets going out nearly every day before christmas , weve run out of our local stomping grounds! thanks for the thinking tho, joy
  18. any body have or know of anyone within say 30 mile radius of us (A50 Uttoxeter) who we could collect used pallets from, obviously not broken, but that can be used for us to stack our log nets and kindling on, as we have nearly run out! ideal FOC on collection by us thanks joy - yard mobile 07971 220186
  19. arent the surgeons fantastic, i just about ripped my thumb off a week before last christmas and luckily near where we live is a specialist hand surgeon hospital, word to the wise - dont let them put you to much physio too soon, let the healing happen first as you can do more harm then good as my surgeon told me, and yes mine was messy - goose poo etc in from cleaning the hens and geese out just 5mins to me cutting the thumb off. flip side - the lads now say i am a true woodsman as i have scars to prove it! all the best from the midlands! joy
  20. steve i will ask one of our lads who worked for JCB and knows them inside and out, i know some later ones they used all yellow wires which are a real pain to try and find what they all go to! joy
  21. Hardwood and softwood wanted all sizes can be dealt with , either milling quality or firewood quality/pulp. particularly need larch/spruce and hardwoods for firewood also larger diameter specs such as cedar, larch oak etc for milling. can collect at rideside or deliver to our yard. firewood wanted for next season. can take at anytime of year, ideal to get stocked up now if anyone has any, can take artics in our yard and we have our own trailer to collect if fairly local. - just off A50 at Uttoxeter, Staffordshire. thanks joy
  22. poplar, conny and a bit of eucalyptus and thuja the poplar is really good, i am suprised how hot it burns, the first few pieces ontop of the bulk bag got wet but soon dried over night next to the stove, and it keeps the fire in all night. red hot rads and hot water brill joy
