  2. oh right, no not got jonty, we now have a "brian", and one brian = four jontys
  3. but in our ever sunnier summers you will find that the netting is not UV and will deteriorate in about 1 month of good sun if you are like us and process through the summer, we tried similar large mesh nets and these fall apart through uv joy
  4. weve got even more people with grants setup now flooding the market with v.cheaphardwood , they are even selling it cheaper than we can get it by the tonne! this grant system for farmers to buy firewood processors has in my opinion gone too far, within a 10mile radius i know of 5 people now setup with grant firewood processors who never sold stuff before and about another 7 selling wood without grant aid who are new to the market. in about 5 years time i can see the firewood game finished as the longtermers are pushed out by the get rich quick beer money brigade and it will go the way of the milk game only a big few nationwiders supplying the market as the likes of these so called government bods. recommending woodland owners to sell to the big guys. peeved off joy
  5. we are going mad selling to our retailers the garages and farmshops etc and our domestic tip loads are very slow, i put it down to people havent got the money for a big load but will buy a few nets if they need to light their fire and spend a tenner instead of £100 joy
  6. i cant think of a hread ive read lately containing any problems, or is it that im only reading certain threads and any sniping has gone over my head as im so tired of producing logs and sticks im not switched onto sarcasm:blushing: joy
  7. ours clarks made us, to rohans spec, one end a mini site workshop - space for grinders , spanners etc , other end space for drums of chain oil, petrol, hydraulic oil, spill kit etc and middle bunded derv tank upto current spec for work on FC land with electric pump worked off battery connectors - hope this gives some ideas - joy
  8. our grab tank was bespoke made by clarks , yvonne clark, gave her our trailer measurements to fit, one end has a tool store and oil store its bunded could something be made by them to your requirements?
  9. we can supply 3-500 nets for you, we deliver this amount no problem the lads are currenlty delivering all over the country, luton next week, so distance not a problem, please let us know your area for a price for delivered, or we can supply collected at £1.25 a net
  10. spoke to a firewood merchant from tamworth, who told me he had a visit and they stole his kindling machine and all his nets of sticks hed done, the police managed to get back his kindling machine, but wouldnt tell him where it was - for fear of him going and setting light to their transits with conny tops on and facia boarding! - but hasnt got his 1000 or so nets of sticks ,so they will be offloading those around the midlands soon im guessing!
  11. ditto - and a goblet affect can help - open to allow air flow, reduce disease etc.
  12. if we burned all the wood that was available and forgot the snobby "hardwood" is the only good wood, we would be sufficient and sustainable. all timber as long as it is not treated, and has been dryed enough, forget the word seasoned as this can cause confusion over different time periods, some wood "dries" quicker than others, take larch or spruce if run through a nokka processor or harvestor the rollers puncture the stems and the timber dries in next to no time. there is alot of myth put about by people who keep instilling into customers minds that only hardwood is best, only 3 year seasoned is best, rubbish - if you had some birch sat their for 2 years it would be mush. all wood will burn, if priced accordingly to how quick it burns then wood can compete against many fuels (i.e. we sell arb logs, mixed up tree surgery wood for as little as £45 cubic metre, larch sells for £60 cubic metre) all acceptable woods.
  13. we work all over , scotland wales, FC work at Melbourne nr Derby, forestry work now for a large private local estates on our doorstep
  14. hi, east, west north south, the midlands are the best:blushing:
  15. if any wanted some of our vented barrow bags, which are the better quality ones, we still have about 20 unused ones if anybody wants them collected from our yard - as we have got about 100 and thats enough for us, best offer secures! thanks joy
  16. we are on the forest doorstep and have never had any work from this area ,dont know who gets it, i think it is either volunteers or doesnt get done
  17. my own personal memorable moment was doing Chelsea Flower show with my college, spent 2 weeks building it living in digs , sponsored by Bradstone and wined and dined at Chelsea FC and 2 days meeting and greeting the public, met all the famous horticulturalists and tv gardeners - fab. and on stand with bradstone sponsored leics. rugby club. joy
  18. some need vernalisation i think it was called from my college days - although im sorry i am hort and hubby is arb trained, but some seeds need a spell in the freezer, dont know if this is true for tree seeds - will have to ask hubby tonight joy
  19. we used to cremate our gerbils as children on an "open fire Pyre" in the hearth that dad created for the ultimate trip to heaven for our pets, when they died! now in our stanley, theres nothing worse than hair when the lads have a haircut! conifer and larch stick offcuts. we have raised our lambs in the plate warmer of the stanley before. - and then cooked them in the oven when old enough - i hasten to add after their ultimate trip to the slaughter house! joy
  20. is this the first christmas tree installed by us today? - 35ft at Ashbourne Market Place for the town council, the lads were up at 5.30am to get it onto the market place before the town got busy, but there was still a mini parked 2ft from the hole where we had to maneouvre it in! luckily Rohans crane skills got it straight in the hole and not even near the mini:thumbup:
  21. forget the hardwood, take up cosworths offer of the sitka, it will be bone dry in a few weeks and as light as cork! - burns great - get your customers on to spruce or larch, lower your prices for the stuff and shift more tonnage, easier to process, lighter on machinery and handling , volume wise you ll get more for your money if buying tonnage = make the same money cosworth if closer - wed have the lot!
  22. a 20 year old stand of larch or spruce will give a good yeild of firewood, but hardwood we are never going to be sustainable and we should not be promoting hardwoods but promoting softwoods, which we have in abundance and if phytophora catches more then there will be more larch than we can throw a stick at for biomass or firewood
  23. weve used the cut off top of a corn elevator, for moving our sawdust into bulk bags, took off the electric motor and put on a old hydraulic motor we had then just piped into back of spool of tractor
