  1. our lane - 4 floods across the lane from main road to farm:thumbdown:
  2. sometimes on really big bits of hard stuff like a shoulder of beech, its good to split with just a single verticle splitting head as it can stick on a 4 way splitter head - just a thought.
  3. i think thats awful - if we had been closer Mr logbaron would have eaton £25 burgers himself! if we have a summer bbq/hog roast you are officially invited to come and camp at our field. joy
  4. i thought roofing tiles / shingles were sweet chestnut ?? could be wrong - weve found horsechestnut once dry burns just as good as other woods - the thing is let it dry, its taken about 5 years to get this pile nice, but like anything wood burns water doesnt it has a value, chip or firewood, some one will buy it off you im sure, good wood as i say, split it may dry faster as ours was drying in the cord length joy
  5. i know what you mean about light, that big yew picnic bench takes 6 of us to lift it easy ! four and you struggle, the other picnic tables weve made out of all cedar are alot easier to move about joy
  6. hi ed - hows it going, yes we visited the engcon stand and yes i heard all about " this is what eddies got"!!! but i did find it interesting and the amount of attachments that he demod and could interchange so quick - pallet forks, brush, breakers etc even for me it was actually interesting - it was a jcb demoing for engcon , but will have to ask Roh if he saw a kubota:thumbup: joy
  7. petplan with our old little jack russell, but with the farm guardog a GSD they wouldnt insure guard dogs, had to go with another company

  10. i know we are a abit out the way, but we are just off A50 at Uttoxeter (little chief island) -google ST14 5AJ from your site if it helps, literally 5 minutes off, can take all, if you were coming back towards m6 and wanted to tip off at night? any help? thanks joy - can take chip and log forgot to say if you wanted us to supply fastrac and crane trailer to aid you picking up lumps of cord to speed your job up can do for the timber - thanks joy
  11. unfortunately most 6" arborist chippers such as timberwolf etc arent biomass spec, i.e. dont have slither breakers or screens in , and as such dont give a consistent spec of chip i.e. g30 is 30mm and g50 50mm, also you dont want alot of dust , undersize or over size to block augers which most are fed by. hope this helps thanks joy
  12. im guessing your hand felling and hand snedding - forget it ! the work way outways the cost of the timber from what ive gleaned from what youve already posted only worth it if youve got some kit to help the job along i think joy
  13. the hammock was really quick to build , the lads made a ply former and resawn the oak beam we had through a band saw to get lots of layers of thin flexible oak, they then glued and stretched them over the former in one using a ratchet strap, if we had two formers it could be made in half the time, but we used one and it took a good day - long day all be it - so the oak we had, bought i think two tubs of this glue that likes green wood, the hammock inset was £40 online and the chain cheap from local diy shop. thanks for comments joy
  14. just come back from a washout local agricultural show where we had a stand, some pics of what we had on the stand that my cousin has made out of our green oak milled at apf 2010 and cedar, the finished hammock and some picnic benches/tables - pics of setup of show as show days a total washout!- but good trade done:thumbup1: thanks joy
  15. desperate for smiths locking carriage for our spare skyline or another timbermaster skyline spares or repairs need trewelin clamps etc also thanks joy pm or ring 07970 040755 or 07971 220186 put in arbtraders wanted also.
  16. what about another alternative of menu holders in acrylic?? cheaper and easier to get hold of Rymans etc sell them, and also sell similar postcode size a6 and business card holders - just a thought joy
  17. yes it a grey menice - a "fergie t20, bought as a project to do up, as the lads enjoy as a hobby vintage tractor restoration, top coat going on in next few days and then will be up for sale, has a good registration with it TPW20 with original papers etc, so would suit somebody with those initials thanks for comments, Rohans a bit of a perfectionist when it comes to spraying and restoration so theres probably more gone into this tractor than most would do. joy
  18. damn - rumbled - hoped someone would say viking long boat!
  19. when it gets too hot to do anything - get someone in to get even hotter and sandblast a tractor ready for painting in the ideal hot conditions
  20. my cousin came over to help make some ........ out of our milled oak and cedar keep guessing joy and no charlieh you cant guess - you know what it is!
  21. we can supply you by the m3, we can cut at 12" not a problem , got loads already cut at 8-10", could be softwood or hardwood - have both seasoned and unseasoned if you let me have your postcode can sort out a price delivered for you, can you take tractor/trailer delivery or would it have to be in small tipper trailer. joy
  22. stanley, they are irish ours is about 20 years old does 10 rads, hot water, cooker - burn mostly conifer/larch works a treat.
  23. just a heads up - fuelwood are again having demo days to show off their firewood equipment etc, i think they are 25-26th may fri and sat. check their website for details and register if your going for catering purposes i think looks like they have one or two new machines to show, could be worth a day out joy
  24. forgot to add aswell - i think this firewood snobbery of these newbies advertising "premium hardwood" etc at a premium price is falling flat on its knees, we offer many products from mixed bags of conifer/tree surgery arisings to larch, to mixed loads to pure hardwood and priced accordingly softwood will have its day and shine joy
  25. yes steve , if we had to buy in all our wood i doubt we would still be doing it as i dont know how firewood business can survive buying in cord - we are different i guess, in that all our timber is felled by ourselves and we only rarely buy in an odd load if a haulier is passing and we can get it at the right price. weve been doing firewood for over 10 years and are in it for the long term, these winters and seasons we have seen before and arent suprised, as for the buying patterns of customers , this has changed and we find that full tip loads are not always what the customer wants - but we have a good variety of different products/prices etc and can usually fulfil what every customer wants and wants to pay. there have been way too many entrants into the firewood game - as i have said many times before -but its only when we get these unusual conditions that it sorts them out. firewood is never going to make you your fortune and i dont think you can solely build a business on it, but it supplements our businesses v.well
