  1. For the odd tree on site we take a saw and 10 tonne hydraulic splitter. Too far away but you should be able to find someone local. Processors are best on dead straight stuff 8-14 inches
  2. A 200 litre compost bin ?
  3. There is such a thing as overthinking a problem. Look for the good in people if you come across a hardened plonker ignor it or block it. Get out more. Life is good we are not here for long make the most of it.
  4. I think your all out on the volume. I think those two stems would yield 10 cubic metres of loose logs. I get enough timber on my trailer to get 5 cubic metres. I doubt I would get one of those sticks on. That looks like a 200 litre water but and the stick looks a good 3 ft across. Heavy work ringing and splitting compared to sticking cord wood through a processor.
  5. I am am impressed anyone who can afford the repairs on a Range Rover sport must be doing ok. Mind you I know a few people with struggling businesses driving round in 10 year old tatty old sports with private plate trying to keep up the image.
  6. £8 is a bargain I think the nhs pay £28 for them. Will save days of pain and may even save a life.
  7. The last wasp sting I had two years ago made my hand ballon right up and was agony for days. I never really reacted with stings but doc said the more you have the worse it will get. Not sure if I should carry a epi pen but I carry old style piriton which needs to be taken with in minutes of the sting.
  8. It may be worth doing a search for logs in hurstbourne tarrant. There is a gentleman there that uses a woodmizer to make his own 3 cu metre crates then has a rotator on a 3 tonne jcb telehandler. His tipper load is 3 cubic metres.
  9. Do as r5log says and do it right from the start or do what I did. And pack up and do something else. Margins are too tight in logs to fanny about the profit is in the efficiency.
  10. There both cheap but the portek one costs 6 times more. I have had a lidls one for a couple of years. I bought 2 so I could chuck it when the disk wore out if could not find a replacement easily ( how lazy is that but time is money) you probably won't get through many disks unless you are wrecking 4 ft chains. I hand sharpen but use the grinder after about 6 tickles if my sharpening is un even one side or if I hit debis in the timber. Using it every sharpen I think you will half the life of your chains.
  11. I never noticed it but you have to take the slack out of the pawl without bending it.
  12. That's got to be a tree surgeon having a laugh. It could not get any worse could it. I bet she has one ash tree and wants the wood from that left in 6 in logs stacked round the front of the house.
  13. After I sharpened it. That's what surprised me as I am sure I have done all the sizes on it. He said it never cut at all and went out for a new chain not sure what size it was but was a who flung dung saw.
  14. I dress the wheel with the edge of an old diamond cutting disc now and again as it losses the square edge. If you dress it you get more Sparks and less heat when sharpening your chains. I can't remember if I have sharpened little 3/8 picco chains any one done these ? I sharpened next doors chain and it was so blunt it may as well have been on backwards.
  15. I don't think it will affect your log sales will focus people's minds on winter coming especially with current weather. Toys like this keep the whole wood burner fad going. People buy this junk and realise how much work goes into logs then pick up the phone and order a load.
  16. Thanks Pete I found the plugs behind the panel and they were not the best. Down below the engine they are probably worse. Will have a look never realised they were there
  17. Lots of people round our way wanted 6 inch logs but they were not happy to pay an extra 15% so never sold much. I think lots of 5 kw stoves have gone into small fire places. The box is 12" wide and so people want to get a new log along side the one nearly finished. Granny logs I think they are called.
  18. Hi Pete I have same model. When I turn ignition key I get a clunk but no starter motor. If I trigger it with a piece of wire it turns over healthily. I changed the Lucas switch and things seemed ok. Left machine for a week and problem back but after I trigger it it will start the rest of the day from the switch. I am thinking wiring loom fault or duff starter unless you know of a common gremlin. Sorry if it derails thread slightly but thought it might help others searching for faults on this machine. Apart from this little problem it's been a fab machine to us.
  19. The more I read the more I think I need 2 machines. I currently have a 525 and a small brinkman bri truck all terrain 1 tonne truck. This little truck sits at the end of a conveyor ticking over and glazing up for hours. It normally has an inch of fine saw dust all over it but it is totally on its last legs not the way I would want to treat a nice truck. When these two forklifts are out of service the forks go on the bobcat. I think a late 90's jcb 530 or similar might be good. It will feel more agile as it has 4 wheel steering our 525 is the one with big wheels at the front.
  20. I think you may be right. I am hoping for a bit of an Indian summer cos I don't think its been great so far.
  21. Lots of really useful feedback thanks. I had heard jcb after 2007 is a bit poor. I was looking at that little 527 they do but not sure if I trust my self with a tonne raised in the air and heavy right foot. I need to pick up 2.5 tonne packs of reject timber and some chunky old generators a 3 tonne machine lifts most of the sets we get in some are 5-10 tonnes then we just get a big hiab operator in as there is money built in to the job. On the other hand I have dozens of bulk bags to zip about with and less than 300 kilos in them. I have looked at spending up to 10 k but machines are old and clumsy. I looked at spending 16 k but still tired stuff. So thought 26k and be done with it and get something tidy we can look after that should see me out to retirement.
  22. I think 6 hours plus 2 hours in casualty. To fill a small net 10 mins
  23. I have no idea why, it's been ticking over for the last 2 years not quiet but not stretched either. Last 4 weeks we have been flat out to try and keep a good stock for the winter. Thank you to all our regulars and new customers good to see you hope we all have a good winter. I am wondering if the fire pit ,chimnea market and glamping market have created a demand.
  24. They look very good but the ones I have seen are about 25 k second hand and lift under 1500kg. They are probably more reliable than the yellow or red stuff. The other thing in my mind is we will run low hours and possibly keep for 20 years so needs to be popular to keep the spares around In years to come.
