If he is working under your direction, on your jobs he should be covered by your PL and EL insurance. It's been covered many, many time on this very forum.

He wont need insurance if he is working for you on a self employed basis.

I was going to say the same, but if was going to go bankrupt, i'd go out in style £40k+ of loans, finance, payday loans, the lot! £5k can be paid off in 2/3 years easy.

Very true - if you're self employed, earning £75/day you need to keep aside £10/day just to cover the 28 days paid holiday a year Then another £15/day to cover ppe/tools/maintenence/fuel over the year. Then another £5-10/day to cover downtime. So now you're down to around £45/day before you know it! That's £1/hr less than min wage
