  1. based that on a 6% savings account rate. Read the paper today, some spanish bugger scooped the jackpot..... gutted.
  2. I Just worked it out...... the interest on 100 million a year would be 6 million..... WOW
  3. If I won a jackpot like that, first item on the agenda would be buying a huge game reserve in africa for all the big game hunting I could handle, and then a trip right round the world hunting the most dangerous and most dellicious animals, then back to the highlands for a serious business session building a huge arb and utilities empire. With that kind of money, I could buy all the forests and large woods that we work in and retain all the timber for myself, that would make the sawmills jump. Then there would be the obligatory harrier jump jet to get to work, that would be fun.. Could even put a bazooka on it!! Did you win stevie?! xx
  4. Subcontractor required for ongoing work throughout the Highlands, Strathspey, Morayshire and Inverness-shire. Work based mainly around Grantown-on-Spey area. Typically work includes commercial tree surgery, commercial felling and processing, general forestry operations, spraying and utility de-veg. Work is varied and offered on a contract by contract basis, normally ongoing. Preferably you will have CS 30, CS 31, CS 32, CS 34, CS 35, CS 38, CS 39, PA1, PA 6, PTS & Medical, First Aid Certificate. CS 30 & CS 31 are essential. Good working conditions and opportunities available for the right person. May also suit less-experienced person looking to gain experience in the forestry industry. Immediate start available. Trainee also required for general work. Please contact Matthew O'Brien - [email protected]
  5. I know what you mean Skyhuck.... Not sure how it would work but sounds a good idea to me. I was thinking about getting a squad of guys together to supply just labour to the forest and agriculture industries which would warrant the gangmasters license, even for simple stuff like planting or weed pulling, spraying, picking etc.
  6. Stoxs - It's not our fault that Andover is crap!!
  7. When you're next up we have a spare room now if it's any use to you Stevie.
  8. Tagging on to Stevie's post, the vast majority of my work is in the Cairngorms National Park, and this is where I call home..
  9. I'm actually having a day off today.... but I'm sitting down writing letters, attending to risk assessments and contract checklists, getting work organised for the boys for next week and doing the invoicing, so.... still working albeit not in the field.. It's interesting that stress has been bought up in this thread..... I suffer with stress quite a bit, and it's true, it will manifest itself in some pretty different ways.... how has everyone coped with the stress of running your own business? We should start a thread about stress at work and ways to deal with it.
  10. You're right, and it screws everything up in the long run.... life, relationships, body, mind, everything. I'm a sucker though... I hate turning work away and practically never turn down a job so you end up working weekends and evenings just to keep everyone happy.
  11. I see your point there Dean... I don't generally suffer with the work too much but at my age I shouldn't do... however, i've just realised from your post that the work will take it's toll on my body one day - maybe working hard now could knacker me for later. Just booked in a subbie job for tomorrow so looking forward to that, love subbing out, dont have to worry about anything, just turn up, do the business and sod off. Might even get Sunday off this week! woohoo!
  12. Just paid £480 for a 30 min closure with traffic control through Bear Scotland. Interestingly I just found out today that if you have all the right road signs etc and a chapter8/signage ticket you can legally close a carriageway or part of a carriageway with traffic control for 20 minutes, which is a statutory right.. is this true, does anybody know?
  13. For what it's worth.. I work all week, and some evenings, and then work saturday and sunday if needed, and bank hollidays if needed, and at night if needed, with all the bull paperwork and method statements and contract checklists and pullava that goes with it.... because I find it's best to take the rough with the smooth. I've never charged more for weekend or evening work and just like to offer my customers and clients a bloody good service. However.... emergency call out 100 miles away in the middle of the night.. now thats different
  14. why do people have enough time on their hands to ask silly questions?
  15. Probably would be mike.. one of the other contractors that was working along side us on our last rail job laid off 4 guys at the end of the contract, there's just no work on the de-veg for a few months, simple as that. Hope you find something though... might be worth you looking for a fencing contractor or similar on the railway, they always have a use for a guys with saw tickets, and fencing can be pretty good work to get. Matt
  16. nice one Cerne.... enjoy the work and relish the experience! Street trees will be a great way for you to get up to speed, mind to keep the groundies working hard!
  17. nice one! just got sky installed, will be watching!
  18. Mike, not the best time of year for finding PTS work... the budgets are just getting sorted now and tenders from network rail should be out in the next couple of weeks.. The ctting work up here is curailed a bit by the nesting season so we're going through a quiet time just now and the whole squad is back on the forestry side of things. I was desporatley looking for someone between january and march but we've completed that contract now. If I get anything come up i'll give you a shout but in the mean time you could try contacting QTS or Carellion, Trac etc.
  19. Use somebody like druadiamond, or similar for a private medical. I use them for all our medicals for railway work, normally get an appointment when you want one thats convenient for you, cost about £120.00
  20. Lets just say I could do with another guy for spraying work...
  21. Sub Contractor required for ongoing work. Must have a minimum NPTC CS30/31, NPTC PA1/PA6. Climbing tickets, windblow and medium trees would be ideal but not essential. Experienced operator, proficient with chainsaw usage & forestry operations preffered. Required for ongoing contracts in the Speyside/Morayshire area, full time work available for the right person. Ideal position to gain commercial experience in a dynamic and fast paced working environment, working together as a team. Immediate start available.
