  1. I'll be shortly taking on my younger brother full time as he is leaving school soon.. I'd like to put him through his basic saw tickets (CS30/31) before he comes up to the Highlands and also so that he can start his CPD on a good footstone. Can anyone tell me, what is the minimum age to go through a NPTC chainsaw certificate? And are there any trainers and assessors based in the Bury St Edmunds area, Suffolk ??? And could you put a lad through a course before July? Cheers Matt
  2. or not enough depending on your viewpoint!
  3. I'd be furious if the marmalade had no bits in it!!!!
  4. That's a great result.. Was it the ebay seller who nicked it?? is he being investigated or charged for handling stolen goods?
  5. Did they give you a gold star and a smiley face as well???
  6. Nice contract!! 2M will go down very nicely eh?!
  7. Skinny tree rat.... that's about right!! I spend all my time running around like a blue arsed fly!
  8. Stevie - in Outlook... Click on tools, and then accounts.. then click on properties, and then click the advanced tab. At the bottom of the tab there is a section where it says 'Leave a copy of messages on the server' - make sure the check box next to it is not active, as in make sure it's empty. If it's currently ticked, untick it and then click on apply, and then OK. Then close all windows and get back to the main outlook screen and click on send/recieve - should clear up messages on the server for you.
  9. Andy - I was told that the bio oils contain alot of chemicals which occur naturaly in the plants used to make them and can cause alot of problems such as infection in cuts, even on the fingers and that breathing in the oil can be harmful, whereas the mineral oil as already stated is effectivley sterile. Considering all the crap pumped out by cars, engines, machinery and everything else about, I really don't believe using bio oil will make much difference to the environment in the long run, however, many contracts stipulate bio oil these days, in which case we use sunflower oil or veg oil out of the supermarket... runs a little thin though.
  10. SEO - Search Engine Optimisation. ALT tags, META tags, Keywords, search engine submission etc
  11. Not much chance of me making it then... way way way too far away for me. Why have you chosen a spot in south east Scotland?? not having a go or anything, but somewhere central would be fairer for all concerned. Would take me the best part of 5hrs to get down to Berwickshire.
  12. I do wear the sticky gloves from time to time, but when the weather is cold, gloves don't make much difference I find.. I like the leather gloves I use for climbing, they are great in the dry, but when wet tey can be a bit slippery
  13. Normally wear leather climbing gloves...
  14. Have been searching now for a while for some larger diameter climbing rope.. I often climb in cold weather and rain, and often work with numb hands and fingers.. I was thinking that a larger diameter rope for cold/wet weather would be good for work, but so far I have been unable to find any arb rope above 13mm Are there any companies that supply or make larger diameter rope? I know the trend these days is to go for a smaller diameter, but I prefer something I can grab ahold of easily. Either that or i'm just being a woosie.
  15. Personally I wouldnt worry about it... I have one on my rope as well.. I'd let the LOLER inspector pick it up at inspection time and he'll soon tell you if the rope is goosed of not.
  16. Heads up - I would if I was you mate... for the safe of either a prussik or a rescue link (theyr're about 10cm long) it could one day save your life... hopefully you'll never need it but you never know.
  17. Still can't make the 10st mark!! dosen't matter how much I eat or how much crap or junk food I just can not put on weight... still a 28' waist and 9 1/2 stone. have tried everything, even eating a huge piece at lunch and a masisve evening meal... On a lighter note, got another 5min job in today to do at some point.. 5 scotties to be sectionally felled at a keepers house.
  18. Sounds a nice spot..... one thing though.... where the hell is Berwickshire?? Anywhere south of Perth and I'm lost!
  19. I was quoted £53.00 for a 20L drum of the stihl bio oil last week... So I promptly went and got a 25L drum of the Oregon Super Saw Chain Oil for £32! The bio oils are good for the environment, yes. But not good for the operator. As the bio oils are made from plants and veg oils, they actually contain some pretty harmful stuff. As far as I am aware you could pretty much drink the normal mineral oil and it wouldnt do you any harm at all.
  20. Can anyone explain to me why green ash burns so well? I know it's a brittle wood when cutting.. and so the moisture content must be quite naturally low, but I've got some ash on the fire tonight that is just in the round, not split and was only cut on Friday afternoon.. It burns a treat!! Never burned ash before, will be singling out as many ash trees as possible from now on!!
  21. One of my lads uses the lock jack... he swears by it - never used one myself but they look good. Something about it dosent quite do it for me though... I'm a bit weary of anything mechanical that could go wrong..
