  1. 4k + VAT?????? Holy f**k!! I'll stick with my prussik for now - grand total something like £1.50 inc VAT
  2. Go for a branch you know you can get your throwline over or even your mainline, if it happens to be lower down than you want then just get up there and get your next line in when you get there - sometimes you could spend all day trying to get a throwline over the branch you want. Everyone is saying practice and it's true, also technique... I feed the throwline through the ring on my throwbag so it's back on itself and then let some line out, so you end up holing the throwline in both hands and the throwbag weights down the middle of the line, then you can use it as a kind of catapult from between your legs...
  3. That'll be the one!! I noticed the tree is shot to pieces, I thought the wind will have taken it over like that, but all the heartwood is missing - she'd been dead a very long time.
  4. I'll second that - contact Cameron at Trust Insurance I have all my insurance with them, and you get an extra 25% off commercial vehicle insurance if you have your commercial policy with them. 5m PL, 10M EL, No restrictions whatsoever and covered for all utility/rail work (green zone only) 5 full or part time members of staff + sub-contractors.
  5. It was very nearly decked, but I thought it looked quite cool and decided to leave it - if nothing else it will aid the standing deadwood policy that's in place in the wood. Only problem is that it's not far off a public path but the powers that be can decide what they want done with it.
  6. It's all part of the world domination plan!! I thought it would be a good way to see some different places, make some decent money and get plenty of dangerous trees under the belt.
  7. Stumbled across this when thinning nr Grantown on Spey in November, Interesting to say the least. Matt
  8. Cerne - it's a long shot and i've not spoken to them recently by you could try contacting Urban Forestry, the guys name is Reg Harris. Reg gave me some advice years ago when I was a kiddie and that's what initially led me down the tree work path when I left school. I'm from Bury St Edmunds originally, and Urban Forestry always had allot of work on, and good boys too - They do allot of Landscaping as well if I remember right. Good luck anyway mate. Matt
  9. Now that is beach combing - nice one!!
  10. pertho - Are you looking for a job in Arb as a climber?? Just off the top of my head.... Bartletts If you're hungry for work, and you dont mind working hard i'm almost certain they would have something for you, even if it was grounding for a start. Good friend of mine works for them as a consultant -seem a reasonable bunch...dont know what anyone elses experiences are with them, but theyre a big company and have allot of LA work. Matt
  11. Hi All, Just wondering if anyone has heard of a company called 'UN Arb' ?? Some pals of mine were talking the other day about this company, apparently they take climbers out to sites of natural disaster for make-safe operations all over the world for make safe of dangerous trees and take down of damaged trees. I've been trying to find out about international arborist companies but so far have not found any positive leads.. Are there any companies out there that do clear up operations after hurricanes/high winds/forest fires etc?? Any info much appreciated, Matt
  12. Depends what the customer wanted, but I would say some major crown cleaning and some reduction needed. failing that.... firewood:scared1:
  13. It's been a long night... should really sleep before logging onto here ey!
  14. One of the lads that works for me uses a lockjack and a rope guide instead of standard prusiks, and he swears by it. Me i'm still on the prusik cause i'm too tight to buy a lockjack! Shreks Wee Brother - if you're getting too old, you could use one of these... http://www.powerquickinc.com/index.htm

  19. Tell me about it - gorse clearance on vertical cuttings - what a pain in the arse. Regarding your throw bag, if you cant get the branch you want within three tries, go for the lowest branch or a lower branch and take it from there.. throw bag on the end of your climbing line works wonders. Matt
