  1. Does it burn ok?? Never had any to try.. Would it be worth the same as birch or the like for wholesale firewood?
  2. That's what we're hoping.... problem is it's mostly sycamore and i'm told it's not great firewood ;O( Having said that, theres a good mixture of stuff about in there so wouldnt be a bad job. One of the big Sitka in there is rumoured to be the second largest in Scotland... it's got a big dead branch hanging out of it which we may be asked to deadwood - would be a nice job, but how the hell do I get a flip line round that kiddie??
  3. That's the best thing that could ever happen to a badger!! well done that man!!
  4. YAY!! lots of snow-snap work for me!! yipee!!!
  5. That's the one I was looking for, Grand Fir, not Grandis... There are quite a few of them at Randolphs Leap.... hoping to get a nice lot of work down there shortly. I remember now Simon moaning about his christmas tree. How tall do they grow? Some of the ones at Randolphs Leap are well over the 100ft mark... but I've noticed that allot of them seem to split up the middle close to the base, is that common? There's a monster that needs felled at some point down at Randolphs leap, the split in the bottom is so wide I can fit my hand in it, and it goes right through the tree.
  6. Rupe - it was actually quite an easy tree... the branches were all reasonably straight, and it was easier to cut them off flush rather than reducing them and then flushing.
  7. Ahh, thought it would have made it's way onto here in the past, especially seeings as theres a nice link to Arbtalk on Graeme's website. As far as I'm concerned, this guy is THE MAN. I was thinking about this vid a few weeks ago, I was standing right in the top of a Grandis (sp?) Fir and I estimated I was about 100ft or just slightly more, and I felt really good, doing a hard and skilled job, but that's still peanuts compared to graemes 200ft job!! I would love the chance to go out any work with this guy... Graeme - consider this an application for work! Matt
  8. Ahhhhhhh, thats how you get the video to embed.... nice one.
  9. I imagine some of you have seen this before, but for those that havent - here's a really amazing vid. I have found the video really inspirational, and Graeme McMahon - you're a legend dude! The Chemical Bros backing track is fantastic too - nice chilled out tune. I couldnt work out how to embed a video in the post (perhaps someone can help me with that) But here's the link: [ame]http://uk.youtube.com/watch?v=Y6hEfav9ZwI[/ame]
  10. Great videos!! Love the commentary about the groundie standing around - why do they always do that?!? grr!
  11. Arbtalk.co.uk - Tree Surgeons do it in ALL positions!
  12. Arbtalk - the branchwalk of life!
  13. Well..... maybe a couple at the top, but in general, no pegs!
  14. Yowsers! Hope it all goes well mate, you'll see, you'll be raring to get back to work.
  15. I use turpentine - have used it to clean rope occasionally, I know that's probably bad for the rope but so be it... also works well on saw trousers and other kit.
  16. As an afterthought, I may be able to find you some work near Glasgow if that's any use to you - would be trackside. If you PM me a contact number and brief outline of tickets + experience, I'll have a word with one of the guys i'm working with just now - he's about to come off our contract and start another one nr Glasgow. Matt
  17. Alasdair, Sorry to hear you've been paid off mate... just out of curiosity, was it Lumberjax you were working for, and do they owe you any money???? Not meaning to pry or 'owt, just starting to notice a trend here...
  18. There's an interesting discussion point... regarding leaving pegs.. A very good pal of mine finished his degree in Arboriculture from the Scottish School of Forestry last year and was telling me today that whilst on thier course they were taught to leave pegs as best practice... I dont know what's right or wrong, it's down to the individual at the end of the day I suppose. Mr. Bish - Yep - really enjoyed that job. If I could get one a month like that i'd be really happy. Having said that, I've got two jobs coming up just shortly that are similar.
  19. Rupe, Just wondering - did you have to shorten your rope bridge on the treemotion? I had to undo and re-tie mine, too damned long as standard.
  20. You should try the mankini - a lot less chafing..
  21. ive got one too - but it doesn't get emptied enough !! With thoughts of manscara, campness and manbags.... i'm off to work..leave you guys too it for tonight me thinks.
  22. Guys the haulage will totally kill it anywhere outside of inverness-shire/morayshire/Strathspey area.. Seasoned pine, approximatley £22-£26 per ton at roadside depending on different estates.
