  1. Not sure about cheap Vs expensice these got me around lavina in Italy in severe snow conditions. As long as you don't drive like a finnish rally driver then they will get you any where on snow covered roads.....
  2. Have a set from a VW polo..... Used once will get size range as i'm not sure. There really heavy so never flea bayed them. How much you willing to pay as postage will be £10-£15.00 unless your in the midlands anytime soon!!!!
  3. Disagree totally, a good groundie can amke or break a crew, and often make the best foreman. but if you want to be a climbing aborist then the sooner you get in the tree the better, as long as your with a decent crew to guide you.... It takes a long to be a competent groundie as it does to be a compentent climber
  4. Its a stealth truck and chipper, the crew are so well camoflarged you can't even see them
  5. Forgot to mention, its very much like drinking, I can party as hard as the younger lads but the hangerovers are far harder to get over these days....
  6. Climb as much as possible,,, get fit and learn fast.... 3-5 years on the job with a good company and you will know the job, if you already have a good knowlege of trees tree care and pest and diseases then your well on your way the rest is just experience and a bit of natural talent..
  7. I'm sure i've worked with these clowns.......... Must be ex tree sugeons... not very good at anything else.... lol
  8. Its the new model still (stihl) in development replaces the MS441 can't be much worse can it?
  9. If it tinatus, be careful has been known to drive people mad... (and to suicide) so get checked out.. upgrade ear protection or ensure your current ones are ok. often chinstraps and i'll fitting helmet/visor/defender selection can mean your not getting the full protection required. hope its just ear wax had the problem myself so years ago got them flushed out by a very pretty nurse and never had an issue since... good luck
  10. Good quality (small version) ski goggles are great, can also wear your visor to keep most of the dust off...
  11. Firstards.. great durability, have had mine for 7 years, yeas severn and other than re-waterproffing (NIWAX) there still going strong, also in hi viz, breathable hard wearing lots of pockets and stuff. a lot of rope access workers use them on offshore rigs and pilons ect... not cheap though... but divied by severn worth it
  12. I'd also recommend Collins Tree Guide £20.00 well spent
  13. Also done some surveying following the Lantra course.. Only gives you enough information to say there is a high to low chance of bats present. If there is then a licenced bat handler is required. If you not intending to handle or disturb the bats roots or adjacent trees/structures then you don't require a licence to survey a tree for the potential for bats or fell trees that you deem have a very low or no significance for bats.
  14. My Advise, Get focused quickly, keep it simple and local, it will complicate itself enough as you get into it. I had a nightmare with mine as It was base in NE Hungary and the Ukraine not great when your data sets are screwed up. Had to sort the whole lot out in 6 weeks and had a lot of gaps in the data. Hense my desmond... 2:2
  15. Does that bad boy tip???? Looks great for transporting my 88 to site
  16. How big were the rigs? I'd more concered about soil compaction and root damage and than the canopy issues.... also water/dariage issues having a multi stry build so close nto the trees.
  17. The HSE would cut off your Knakers if the catch you doing stunts like that....
  18. RFS Tech Cert... Including the required Practical tickets for Full Qulaification. Also a good link with other contractors who will be on the course, you may even land a job... Usually runs as a evening class (theory) and day blocks (Practical tickets CS and AO units)
  19. Nice reduction, Should of reduced the conservatory too... Trees probably worth more that the barratt box in the background
