  1. I presume this is all about choking branches with a crab instead of a running bowline. I never did it before last week when someone I sub for told me another climber they use on occasion does it and it's really good and fast etc I think it's just abuse of equipment. It doesn't grip the wood as well and is generally un professional IMO. If people want knotless rigging they should supply a big box of tape slings to choke with. --- I am here: http://maps.google.com/maps?ll=51.374041,0.481515
  2. I cut mine the same as that or maybe slightly deeper on my skylotec over a year ago and it's still going strong, I wouldn't worry about it. --- I am here: http://maps.google.com/maps?ll=51.374172,0.481374
  3. It's up to you really and how much you can do per day what kit you may hire etc I'd guess 2-3 days --- I am here: http://maps.google.com/maps?ll=51.374106,0.481258
  4. Thats because no one works like that for a wage, we all want this elusive character but he doesn't exist:thumbdown:
  5. Not with fuel in. Its a fairly minor point anyway the better cutting and considerably better fuel economy/cutting time is what makes it my prefered saw.
  6. The 201 has more power, is better on fuel, the chain brake is stronger and is also lighter than the 200 and is also cheaper. I won't ever willingly go back --- I am here: http://maps.google.com/maps?ll=51.373726,0.481523
  7. The best cost cutting measure you could use is buying some of that biodiesel off your friend and runninhg your trucks and chipper on it, and your car if thats diesel too!

  9. I've pushed and pulled alot bigger with excavators, but that looks to me like they couldn't push it so had to settle for letting it sit back and then slewing to the right and letting it fall there more than anything.
  10. Might work, either way its good to see people trying new things, its th eonly way we'll make progress. As the guy above said would you be able to return and have a look next spring/ summer?
  11. I did find some stuff about tha ton mig wleding forums before hand, but one of my friends has the same machine and does a fair bit of welding, he's made 30 pairs of garage doors, a good few truck bodies and the like with it and can;t fault it so good enough for patching up the odd bit on the chipper and such like, it seemed like its an eays fix if you are bothere dby it anyway from what i read.
  12. Picked up a SIP TOPMIG 195 today for £250 just got to get some rent free gas and I'm away! --- I am here: http://maps.google.com/maps?ll=51.373936,0.481146
  13. i got my spikes for £60 off ebay they're steel with velcro top pads and leather lowers, and also came with spares gaffs and brand new upper leather strap pads also! Bargain. I don;t see how they justify £2-300 for them either, its rediculous!
  14. Im currently inthe marlet for a welder preferably quite a big used one. so wa sjut wondering what everyone else has and what you think of them?
  15. Of course, I should have used alittle more punctuation in that sentence, sorry.
  16. Its the best money you'll make, short of executing your own jobs. I fill most of the days i'm not doing my own stuff with it. However, you have to be willing to climb any tree (within reason), and get the job done quickly and safely or they wont be calling again, you must also be willing to work in whatever weather your employer for the day deems necessary etc etc, its a tough job but you wont make anywhere near the same money as an employed climber or groundsman. I wouldn't make it your goal within the industry though, as working for others at all times means your always in for that big horrible job and the hard days. Most days subbying is are at a flat out brutal pace, or extremely technical and big, which is fun but the novelty wears off after a whle imo.
  17. Buy from FR Jones and it comes all tuned up ready to go, they are boggy for a few hours from new due to a guide which rubs the chain but after a little use it wears down and everything frees up. I hate using my 200 since owning a 201 --- I am here: http://maps.google.com/maps?ll=51.334843,0.503617
  18. I've misplaced my manual, but isn't winter mode for severely cold places Sweden etc?
  19. I'm afraid there's something wrong with your saw, or you're a liar, simple! I've been using my 201 every day since pretty much when they were released and i'll never choose a 200t over a 201t. They produce better power and last much longer between refills, also the chain brake is far more robust among other things. The 201t is a brilliant saw and deffinatley progress:thumbup1:
  20. I've also got the skylotec Harness and really like it. However it still isn't the lightest harness out there but it is very comfy.
  21. Billy

    Wages??

Thats pretty poor, a fairly new climber or good groundy will exceed that money! This is why i didn;t do a degree in arb!
  22. I need some more stump grinder teeth (finger type), ive found 32 for £100 on Ebay, which is good as danequip wantd £33 posted for a single set. Just wondering if these Ebay ones are the same product i.e quality etc) and if anyone knows somewhere i can get decent teeth cheaper than this? Thanks, Bill
  23. Do the same stuff you did when you were employed, if you were a good employee ;-)
