  1. When climbing I lie whatever I'm wearing on my upper body tone nice and tight to avoid it getting snagged in my crab or on branches etc, that kind of thing really annoys me.so everything in small or medium at most.
  2. Just been to price up some work on a very large cedar in Roehampton near Richmond (SW15). the job way out of my usual area and I'm not going to be able to easily take all the log and chip back with me. So I was wandering if anyone on here was in that area or knew someone who wanted the logs and could collect or has somewhere I can tip them nearby? Either would be greatly appreciated Reply on here by pm or feel free to call me on 07505134004 Thanks, Bill
  3. All interesting stuff, the jobs mine if Im sensible as far as I know but I don't want to miss out on the profit being too keen, most of the replies mirror what I was thinking anyway which is reassuring. will have to remember back to my training and put together some risk assessments etc.
  4. I hate working alone because it's so boring but when the money isn't in the jobs which is very rare these days I will go and crack on on my own. Or the odd bit of section felling on woodland trees for a guy I know who is too tight to pay for Groundy as well as myself as I can clear up far more quickly with the excavator afterwards etc. doesn't really bother me to be honest aerial rescue isn't worth a thing anyway.
  5. Thanks for a useful reply Chris, as any threads mentioning pricing usually get trolled to death! More input welcome :-)
  6. Im pretty confident and happy with my pricing of domestic work, but tomorrow I am off to look at a bit of work for a large building contractor, any advice on roughly how much I can inflate prices by and still be reasonable ?
  7. Where are you based?
  8. I have one, it's looking a little old now but still very comfy and easy to use, I've never tried anything that's felt better
  9. I got my first hatchet at about that age, and I still have it now. Along with all my fingers and toes! --- I am here: http://tapatalk.com/map.php?0whawb
  10. Long days in London due to travel must be worth 150+ for a decent climber --- I am here: http://tapatalk.com/map.php?vrf12t
  11. Ash before oak in mid Kent I'm afraid :-( none of the Oaks I've been near of late are showing any action at all --- I am here: http://tapatalk.com/map.php?buxutl

  13. climber always gets the final say, I've had to argue a few times with some groundies/foremen though...Always the ones that have never climbed mind! From what you've said though i probably would have gone ahead and halved it if the tractor was big enough and i trusted the guy driving it, with big kit its nearly impossible for stuff to go the wrong way if everyone is working together as they should. But as everyone else has said, everyone went home safe and sound and paid so its not a problem, as you were 11m from the lines and you should be 2.5 times the length of the longest product from hazards as a rule if you were doing ti by the book halving them would be a big no no....swings n roundabouts
  14. subby climbing :-(
  15. I cut the bridge on my ekn Skylotec about two years ago with my silky and she's still going strong now, it only penetrated 2-3mm though, however it was still quite worrying at the time ! --- I am here: http://tapatalk.com/map.php?2y0h0g
  16. I run over weight occasionally as much as the next Arb, I think the simplest solution for most firms would be a big Ifor tt105 with a chip box on it towed behind a second vehicle. Ample payload, no o license or tacho if within 30 miles of base. I'd do it in the blink of an eye if I had space to store a trailer. --- I am here: http://tapatalk.com/map.php?x0xxxs

  18. Smiley Transit tipper, ms250 & ms200t. But a nice new climbing kit. Anything less than a transit size tipping truck is a waste of time IMO specially with no chipper. Now have an Iveco daily and l200 a few more saws, proper stein lowering gear, and a 625i &935i the former is for sale if anyone's interested --- I am here: http://tapatalk.com/map.php?perdsz

  20. Typically a company without a chipper are a bit yeeha and not so professional. Unless your constantly on burn up jobs I don't see how people Di without them my 3 man crew made 3 loads of chip today without a chipper it would have been twice that in brushwood, the extra time mashing down etc would have ruined the day totally. As everyone else has said don't buy a chipper to try to get work, if you have that kinda cash laying about persevere with getting Groundy work and tickets and relax. --- I am here: http://tapatalk.com/map.php?mxpguk
