  1. What do you guys make of this?
  2. between two and three tons depending on model and brand. looks about 5 ton gross. about half that is payload. Probably not too heavy for the trailer, just very unsecure, however in gear with the brake on it wouldn;t be th end of the world if no crazy driving was involved.
  3. we move a similar sized dumper on a ifor tipper regualrly, works fine. strapping is a bit shoddy though. reaction seems a bit OTT to me.
  4. Theres not loads of work, but it is there. Experience is key as you probably know. To be honest unless you have money to invest in good kit (large truck, hi ab etc) you wont be worth much than about £70 a day draggin brash and grounding for a while untl you gain speed climbing...which isn;t easy as not many firms want aslow possibly accident prone new climber doing alot of climbing for them...its a bit of a catch 22 situation.
  5. mines 25" actually. TLS forestry is that a Dolmar 166 in your pic?
  6. i use a 24" bar on my 441 and it copes fine, you can't bear right down on it through big hard wood but it certainly doesn't hang about or cause inconvenience either. If your cutting 20-30"+ all the time i'd get something bigger, but if your just doing the occasional job up to the that size the 441 should pull the 24" well enough.
  7. anyone spot my 50% Oak reduction next to the jumps in the last pic?
  8. I do it wherever possible, just makes sense and gets you in the groundies' good books if your subbing.
  9. Recvkon its worth drilling the plastic pin itnhe chain brake and putting a small bit of steel in there ot re inforce it?

Go to Jonsie, cheaper and fire nicer to deal with than lamberhurst. And they're only £479 inc VAT with 12" bar and chain, so even with P&P and a bit on top for a 14" bar they'll still be at least £20 cheaper I reckon.
  11. i've got a small add inthe book and a few areas on the web £1200 ish its paid for itself and a bit more+ lots of word of mouth follow ons from YP jobs, which themselves rarely pay well due to nearly all YP customers getting a good ten quotes in! However, the following word of mouth invariably does. Thats after only 3 months, so can't be too bad
  12. Just be confident, I didn't use to like doing them for other people but now instead of worrying about what they think i should be doing to the tree i just crack on with what i want to do to it given the spec and everyones happy. Just chill out and don't over think just make a few cuts.
  13. ok, but if the sheathing wasn't damaged it'd be fine? You know...In theory
  14. yeah stuff down the road is 100% LV power, Wouldn;t catch me working by that without te proper recautions. But that stops quite a way before the houses...In reality sheathed LV isn't really anything to worry about though is it...Like cutting and holding?
  15. I noticed further donwthe road they had the sets of 3 bare wires whicha re obviously power but by the 3 cottages 1 of which i was quoting at were just single, or bundled black wires unfortunatley i assumed they were the larger phone/data wires and and didn't follow them as you've suggested. I do remmber that the house had 2 wires going to it though and i doubt both were phone lines.
  16. I'll deffinatley agree with you on using crappy old ropes, i've climbed for a few people who use ropes in a rediculous condition. However for learning techniques i think it's hard to beat reg's headcam vids and similar stuff on you tube i'm sure its way ahead of what the courses are teaching. But if the courses were cheaper say £250 per head rather than nearer £500 i'd probably go on one anyway, just in case.
  17. South East, this one in particular is in Ticehurst. ok i'll have to ring the call center then, thanks for the advice.
  18. well they look like large phone cables to me, i know bcause i've weighed in similar.I went on EDF's website to try and find a number to get better info but theres just laods of crap on there about howi can buy energy from them, so does anyone have a number for someon at edf i can call and get a confirmation on my lines? ps. sorry for the thread jack ;-)
  19. so all power lines come in three's? any single or paired (twisted together) black wire is not power?
  20. Why's eveyrone saying get trained, i bet very few on here have donethe NPTC cert for rigging..or anythng else more than CS39, I havn;t and can rig perfectly well. Having said that, It's dead simple and if you can't work it out yourself its probably best not to try it.
  21. Possibly a stupid question but how do you tell if you have a sheathed power line or a large telephone line?
  22. the sort of chipper you can sensibly crane feed, would weigh alot more than 1 ton. that one ton but just in GVW terms it seems doable as that oen on ebay still has 3.4t payload with the little crane on it which is quite impressive. If i were you i'd use a tow behind chipper unless you need a parking permit or whatevr for any trailer?
  23. So how did you persuade them that their neighbour wasn't so accurate in his estimation of an approrpriate price?
  24. haha, force of habit, yeah it was a 201! LOL. no fuel primer on mine thugh because its not the ergostart model, or something according to the manual.
  25. Got my 200 today when i got back form work, looks sweet, feels noticably more powerful. I'm gussing the two plastic blocks weither side of the chain cause the chain issue?
