  1. as above direct.gov.uk search for MOT histoy, you need the test number off a previous MOT certificate, the later the better. ut this inthe relevant box and it will bring up every MOT its had with details of any failures and advisories milage etc, very useful when buying vehicles, i've surprised a few people with things they didn't even know using this facility!
  2. looks like i was right on the fines then! Thanks for taking one for the team there:001_tongue:. It must have been revsed as a haulage friend of mine who drives big rigid's and artics etc got caugh tina transit van a few years back and it was £30 up to 10% then £1 a kilo for anything over 10% and 3 points! seems they're charging more for less now but holding onthe points, fair enough i guess.
  3. Oh yeah i know everyone is overloaded, if you fill your chipbox, your overloaded really in the world of 3.5t arb trucks. i just found another snag in post 97 license guy slike me getting a c class license. once your ina class C you then need C+E to tow a trailer or chipper...Yet more expense, i'm not sure if you'll have C+E on your license, might be worth checking!
  4. fair enough, I think thats the sotry for most on here, your just one of the few brave enough to come out with it. Although it seems with all that kit the proper truck was the only thing you were missing so why not. Back ot running your truck, how much more is the tax and insurance on it, and how much do the inspections cost?
  5. Great stuff mate:thumbup:! you shouldn;t be encouraging us liek that though:001_tt2: What made you deice to change then?
  6. this is a good point but i know in my case at least it is not a problem i know they pull and stop loads like the one below and bigger with ease on a daily basis elsewhere. also its down plated on import by nearly half a ton. Also all the other trucks people run clearly have a massive safety margin in built so overloading in terms of th ekit being able to take it isn;t a problem its the legal side that causes the headaches, Unfortunatley. However It was not my intention to start a thread arguing weather the laws are right or wrong. I just wanted to get a realistic idea about how often we get stopped and checked for Weight, and if so what happens:001_smile:
  7. Wood picker, i know your 3.5t had a crazy ULW, out of interest how long were you using that for?
  8. i'll do it, PM sent.
  9. I can se why everyone just gets on and ignores that they're overweight now, maybe i'll go back to that for a bit:blushing: class C license which is rigid trucks up to 38t is about £1300 for a week's training and test, not too sad really, but still alot of money to drive somehing essentially the same size as my current truck but with a bigger number on the plate
  10. I got a clal fromthese guys last week, checked out their site since which seems quite genuine, their price was extremely low consideringt he potential amount of leads it could generate, has anyone else been using them and how's it worked out?
  11. my truck could take that, but i've only just scraped together enough for a twenty year old tow behind so a tracked chipper is a little way off yet. But tbh if their website is tru eand you can only be fined up to £200 for overloading if/when it happens i'm deffinatley not as concerned as i was about the prospect of getting caught a little heavy.
  12. Legendary!!! incidentally a big trailer and tracked chipper inthe truck would be an ideal set up for me with the addition of B+E, as i am allowed a train weight of 7,500kg so no amount of a chip in a highsided Ifor TT would put that over and atracked machine itnhe bed wouldn't be too naughty
  13. I have read through your threads about your 3340kg unladen 3.5 t and your new beast, seem's alike a very good way to go...if your licensed for it. billy68- on the website it only mentions fines as i quoted for being over weight the full paragraph was :- So i assumed they only give points for bald tires, faulty brakes etc etc and just relativley modest fines for overloading and the like, but please feel free to correct me, its jut what i've found exploring their site.
  14. What license is required for 5t? I'm on a crappy driving license that only goes to 3.5t and only a 750kg trailer so i'd still need to shell out for some training and what not to get in one. it's a shame too because all these bigger vehicles can be had for such low prices when i look around on ebay.
  15. Just found this onthe VOSA website At that price it doesn't seem such a bad risk for us lot trying our luck in 3.5t trucks, as long as they're maintained.
  16. My running costs are no different to a transit or similar, it returns 20MPG but it runs on most Oils, plus no burned out clutches or getting stuck. I wouldn't mind a landy but they are rediculously expensive for what they are, when my truck does the same for transit money with a better engine, heavier though. How much legal payload does your Defender have, do they get more than a transit? I considered towing a trailer and getting the B+E license but i think for most domestic jobs a large trailer is too much of a pain to get onto the driveway, or even find space on the street for in some cases. the ULW on the 110 tipper is awesome! but why does test crickets mate's 130 weigh in at 3 empty, thats a vast difference. Good insight into running bigger trucks from wood picker, that seem's far more simple than all the non 7.5t driving people make out!
  17. its atricky one for sure, what does a 130 and 110 LR tipper wighr empty then, I imagined they'd be fairly hefty. I got my Ram becaus ei wanted a big workable 4x4 but at 2.9t it's overloaded a fair bit, but even sitting with what i'd imagine to be a gross weight of 4.5t the springs aren't even flat as they are rated at 3992kg in the states and brought down to 3500kg over here and 5.9l TD thinks nothing of propellingthat along with chipper in tow! anything over 3.5 t is out of the question for me as i don;t have a pre 97 license and i can't justify the hassle and cost of sorting one out for a good while yet.
  18. I've beenthinking alot to day about payloads and things as i've been tinkering with my truck and reading some threads onhere and it seems every 3.5t vehicle is chronically over loaded ona day to day basis in our industry, my Dodge is 2.9t empty and the transits aren't far behind that, the Iveco Daily's substantially more! I was a little worried but then thought, does anyone ever get stopped and weighed, if so how bad were the penalties?
  19. I presume you just run these on the leaf springs at the rear, were they easy to fit?
  20. How much do these air bag helper things cost then, I've been looking at a few sets which don;t include a compressor and a few other bits...whats the bottom line on them with everything?
  21. I'd have to say stihl as i only own a 200t and never seen or used ahusky top handle...this probably goes for a fair few of us, so this will only go one way imo.
  22. Another intersting video, stirring up some strong opinions as ever. Keep up the good work:thumbup1:
  23. I would go with a huge stump grinder, you wont touch that with a mini digger, I spent 5 hours on monday digging a stump out a quarter of that size and that only had a electric and water main running past it, with those walls it just wouldn't work.
  24. the diesel transit on biodiesel 90-100p a litre can;t beat it. and no bio diesel is NOT svo requires no mods and does no harm.
  25. Is that some sort of unloading system inthe bed of the truck at 2:40?
