  1. I know, it is a shame we can't all live the dream!
  2. Rings or valve stem seals could be gone and burning oil, or it could be in burned fuel. You should have a fuel screw on the fuel pump somewhere adjusting that in could help. Also try taking off the rod going from the top of the fuel pump to the manifold and zap strap the lever for the butterfly manifold end wide open, it should start and generally perform better, more air in should mean better combustion and less smoke, you can even remove the butterfly from the inlet completely. If it's burning oil engines are so cheap it's worth just buying another or a set of rings or valve stem seals, compression test should tell you if it's rings or valves. Fuel pump timing can also affect smoke, uncover timing belt and loosen timing pulley on pump and adjust see if it makes a difference.

  18. the line from side d's aroundt he trunk is usually a 3m steel cored strop, but some people just use their short strop/lanyard which is normal climbing rope and their main lie to maintain two points of attachment. When climbing up first thing the main line and a lanyard or steel core flipline/strop are used in a pair to keep one anchor point in whilst throwing the spare rope to the next branch.

Oh yes, i've already been playing with the fuel pump, got the plate and AFC slid right up star wheel slackened off. With just that achieves 0-60 in 11-12 and blows a fair bit of smoke off boost. i'll shortly be ordering a fuel plate, boost control elbow and 4k rpm fuel pump governor springs+ HD valve springs that should put me to around 300bhp and 650lbs/ft Stacks are also in the pipeline should be fun.
  23. Brilliant motors inthe 310 and 312 2.9 turbo i owned one a few years back ran it from 140k to 280 the head gasket went shortly after a laying down 5 hour run from scotland to Kent...i worked hard to keep up the reputation of those vans, so fair play to it it was tapped out everywhere, one head gasket and other than that it just got the oil changed and diesel put in it...or maybe cooking oil. Good smooth fast engine lovely van to drive, much nicer than even the newst transits. I also had a 311 for a bit which was just as good. Sprinter or Transit...Once you've got behind the wheel of a Sprinter you'll realise thats not a question :-) Merc all the way!
  24. Awesome, just got mine yesterday, i was expecting it to be a bit more rubbery but you guys and the you tube videos don't lie, hopefully this one will be safe:thumbup1:
