  1. Daleks work well in the sun. Got five of them and try to rotate but find I fill them all so occasionally tip one out, mix it up and re-load it. Obvs this is in a garden, nothing commercial scale. Yes, yes, yes to a moderate amount of grass clippings - they're what make your heat
  2. Biggest ivy stem I've ever seen
  3. I do Wordle, Quordle, Octordle (often including Sequence and Rescue), Worldle (with sub-games within), Travle and Connections. The last is a real headscratcher: 16 apparently random words that can be grouped into four x four sets. Boy are some of the connections tenuous
  4. I'll try one later in the year when I'm feeling a bit down ☺️
  5. Amusing but worryingly possible. If any water company executive dares cry 'water shortage' this side of July 2025...
  6. This has been discussed repeatedly here. The perceived risk is overegged. Personally I love the smell and happily take in lungfuls of it for fun; some indication there of the actual levels of prussic acid (hydrogen cyanide dissolved in water) that are present. My Jo Beau chipperette has chipped probably 5x as much laurel as any other species; it's a pleasure. Don't eat it; it's chewy and - er - poisonous. Burn the seasoned timber; it's bloody good firewood. Does that help?
  7. I thought today was going to be spring - all of it - but no, spring didn't even last one sodding day
  8. Boards tied loosely edge to edge with the string over the apex of the greenhouse. Perhaps some scrunched up dumpy bags under them to provide a degree of cushioning

    Resting Cat!

I've never seen a cat look so utterly desolate!

    Resting Cat!

@PeteB Does your mog have his bald bits permanently or seasonally? The smaller of ours licks herself bald underneath and on the ankles in winter, presumably through boredom and OCD cleaning! Zylkene helps a bit - cat chill pills

    Resting Cat!

And the forecast for today is... it's crap again
  12. A pic might help... 😊
  13. I've never heard of fire applied to a tree as being part of Euc lifecycle (doesn't mean it doesn't happen) but certainly some species need fire to open their seed capsules - gum nuts - to release the seed within
  14. How very heartwarming to see one of those contraptions on a human being
  15. I wonder how long before we crack controlled nuclear fusion... the holy grail of energy sources
  16. Who's going to tell Thanet and Drax that due to a massive increase in demand for firewood their supply will be logged and not chipped?! Will serve them right 🤭
  17. Better than expected tbh! Not too much of that tree work malarky these days but keeping my hand in. Hi to the boss! Jon
  18. Do you mean proper Cedar Mark or Red Cedar (WRC)? If the latter your friend and mine Paul will have some!

    Resting Cat!

Yep! The cat will recover first but the plant should too - after drying out and growing new foliage following well-meaning housesitter's winter watering!

    Resting Cat!

Does this count as 'resting'?! One of my daughter's. After months cooped up living at 1000m near Chamonix the great outdoors beckoned today. Five hours later...

  23. Difficult to judge without a pic from further away to give context but I wouldn't tickle the branch as you suggest; take a lot more off as re-growth will largely happen from immediately below the cut as well as along the length of the branch (water growth). In the bottom pic how about just behind that bird feeder, leaving the tuft already there? Those are long branches that will be happy to have some end weight removed.
