  1. Is this thinking too simplistic? Scrap all road tax except for ev's (which can be taxed low) and put a penny more tax on fuel. The more you use the roads the more you pay towards their so called upkeep. Won't happen as road tax has become a mini industry employing God knows how many. I must be missing something!

    Whinjuries

Spent many hours as a four or five year old seeing how many stairs I could jump from and land on the Victorian tiled hall floor at the bottom. I could do seven - just - but never eight. I must have worn a patch in the carpet on that eighth stair trying but the smashed face, knees, legs, elbows never told me 'you can't do eight'. Stupid? I'm told it can't be fixed
  4. I'd do exactly what Dan suggests. The fact that the hedge is atop a bank like it is suggests an old hedgerow which makes it well worthwhile maintaining/rejuvenating for Nature's sake. What's in your pic will be teeming with mini beasts and for the full 100m. Try not to damage the bank and its covering too much and Nature will repay

  7. An average 4 for me. The Yanks (remember it's a US app) use some odd words; pinto, intro, leary have all come up more than once in this group of games. Have you tried Quordle or Octordle?
  8. Lol. Oh yeah!

    Resting Cat!

    How's yours Pete?
  10. Glad you're happier. I'm good; very little tree work nowadays, some firewood selling. Otherwise enjoying an acre and a half of garden and woodland in deepest East Sussex
  11. Nice Mike. Hope they do well for you. How are you keeping? Jon
  12. Mick, my take on the game is that a 4 is a perfectly acceptable average. That was my score today. Father-in-law in 3, bro-in-law in 2 with just one green letter in his first go!
  13. One of our two mogs is a mole catcher; she had three last year, all from the garden. Bless her but I wish she'd leave the blue tits and wrens alone; she's even had a couple of goldcrest in her time 😡 Thankfully she's calmed down with age so we're actually nowadays talking about half a dozen birds a year but nesting season is upon us with fledglings to follow... She actually had one yesterday but was soft mouthed enough to release it unharmed when shouted at; did the same once with a fledgling nuthatch
  14. A comment re Protos helmets: the earmuffs are crap. A few minutes chipping and your ears will ring. As recently discussed on here they can be replaced with SNR32 Peltor 4A muffs but you'll need the wishbones too as a separate fitting for them to attach to the helmet
  15. Don't know whether you're speaking generally or were prompted by my unfocussed shot; it's a Magnolia!!!
  16. Thanks for trying but that goes right over my head. I'll ask a youngster next time they're here
  17. Yep, course it is. Well done
  18. Thanks for trying but that's gone over my head. You do appreciate I'm on a desktop now but play the game on my phone?!
  19. Not sure about the bark but the leaf suggests Osmanthus Cut a couple of stems back hard and see what happens
  20. Wow; turning compost - such an evocative subject. At least we now know how to wind up a fellow member in the future. 'I bet you turn your compost. DON'T YOU; DON'T YOU'! I'm a turner. There - I've said it. I may not be proud but it's me. I do it to aerate; sometimes I generate new heat by doing it so it's not all bad. But I'm also a no digger of woodchip veggie beds so please forgive me the error of my ways
  21. Share with what to get it on here? I share with several other phones via WhatsApp
  22. If we're talking quick growing Kiwi stuff how about Pittosporum? Grown as large hedging over there and is salt tolerant as far as I know. A bonus is the very strong and sweet nighttime scent from the tiny flowers that moths love
  23. Wouldn't have a clue hoe to publish here from my phone but did today's in two 😁
  24. Just one job or your actual occupation?
