  1. Ooh you're a bad man!
  2. If you want bonfires come to East Sussex, home of the bonfire societies First fire is in September; just about every society visits every other society's fire through the season into November Lewes is of course the biggest; that's actually on Nov 5th - Tuesday Ours here in East Hoathly attracts several hundred people who watch the fire in the recreation ground and then process to a nearby field for fireworks A local woodworker builds the effigies for the fire; this was last year's fantastic effort
  3. Agreed. It did occur to me that someone's said it with a straight face and the comment's been taken at - well, face value!
  4. A friend has been told by a supplier of woodturning blanks and boards that he's struggling to obtain sycamore due to a ban on the felling of it in the North. Have I missed something? I've tried the great god Google and only get hits on the Gap Syc on Hadrian's Wall. Cheers, Jon
  5. And much more likely under the circumstances; thanks David
  6. How would you listen to that show now? iPlayer?
  7. Several years ago at the old place I bought a garden shed from Malvern Garden Buildings who are now a sizeable company with many outlets; at the time they operated from a light industrial estate on a farm in Worcs. The shed wasn't cheap but I was after quality. I got 15mm flooring and 18mm walls and roof; I couldn't find that anywhere else on the web. Defo worth a look if you're prepared to invest in a shed that will last a long time. Felt's ok if it's heavy duty torch on but it's still vulnerable to damage from falling branches or carelessly laid garden ladders put there for storage. Or, as suggested, build your own with bespoke boards and timbers from a sawmill.
  8. Was sent this pic by a customer. The tree's a recently died garden apple. The original assumption was HF but I'm not sure - looks like Meripilus to me; could it be?
  9. And if you're worried about water wicking up from the concrete into the floor joists stand the shed on bricks/blocks that have pond liner or dpm over them
  10. Ask LAND SKILLS TRAINING & ASSESSMENTS – Training and Assessment for Land Based Industries – Specialising in Forestry and Arboriculture WWW.LANDSKILLS.CO.UK at Dorking
  11. This is obviously not the 5 minute argument, it's the full half hour 😏
  12. And the second test is on the same pitch 🤪
  13. @kram They're a squeeze if you want to tuck the defenders back so don't; just get used to clicking them in and out
  14. December 16, 2008 for me. What an old fart
  15. Same s this one last week presumably
  16. You live in a beautiful spot 👍
  17. I agree with the plum id Mick; thanks for both comments

    Bind weed

Not sure that's how the insects see it Not having a pop; we ask farmers to grow food for us so they do. Some laxity is therefore needed when there is collateral damage but benefit of experience now suggests that we need to rein in our use of biocides

    Bind weed

Best solution depends on level of infestation. We have a moderate amount in the garden which received little attention for the couple of years before we bought the place. If you have the patience digging out the roots can work: yes, you often leave small pieces that grow so go back and do it again. It's working for us; we're definitely getting on top of the stuff. In places it's simply impossible to access the roots so we remove as much as we can, let some top growth reoccur and repeat. It doesn't take forever to defeat bindweed; if you stick at it you can exhaust the roots. We haven't used any chemicals other than against the house where we needed to kill the stuff asap so membrane and shingle could be laid on top
  23. Used to dread the 'French trips' from school on the old ferries - four and a half hours each way 🤢 when I suffered travel sickness a lot as a kid. Then they got the Supercats - way hay; two and a bit hours of smooth flying. Now it's 2024 and... oh dear. 🤞 for a smooth crossing Mick. The six hour drive will be a doddle
  24. @peds Bionnay, just up from Les Hoches. No idea what the aspect was; it was a grey morning with light drizzle. We were under conifer canopy on a mossy mound
  25. I shall ask where we were as I haven't a clue. Foraging is huge amongst the locals as I'm sure you know; neighbour rivalries, closely guarded secret spots etc. Stand by for reply...
